Yes..? Look at the bar on the bottom next to his stamina. The icon shows that he's running.


Do you have any proof that running on Bear Stance changes your defence to zero?

Running at all will reduce your defence to zero. Did so in Vanilla D2, does it here too. Check the link i sent in other comment.

Yes you might be right. It looks like old bug from D2 engine and it looks like physical damage is STILL reduced by % with Bear Stance even if running.

Physical Damage Reduction and Defense are two different things.

Damage reduced works like resists and will reduce the damage you take.

Defense is like avoid/dodge etc and will make attacks miss.

Only the defense is set to 0, not the DR.

Yes I understand that these two are different things but that actually explains a lot, why bother to walk in some certain areas if you still have 50% Physical Redcution? And killspeed might be crucial to survive.

No Defense:

Monster attacks 10 times, and does 1000 damage per hit.

100% chance to be hit, 50% DR: 10 x 1000 x 0,50 = 5000 damage taken. (50% damage taken)

With Defense:

Monster attacks 10 times, and does 1000 damage per hit.

5% chance to be hit, 50% DR: 0,05 x 10 x 1000 x 0,50 = 250 damage taken. (2,5% damage taken)

Pretty big difference i think..

Not 100% that my calculations are correct, if they are not, then please correct me.

Because running reduces your defense to 0 which has nothing to do with physical damage reduction%

Also the speed between walking and running is quite minor.

defense = chance to be hit

DR% = physical damage % negated on each hit taken (elemental damage is negated via your resists+ max resists so doesnt apply here)

So basically always run = you always take hits when they land on you

^^And, as a consequence, be put into hit recovery if the damage is high enough.
