We're a few years ago, back when open bnet was still very active
ShadowDiablo was a diablo community. It wasn't all about hacking and cheating, there were both legit and hacked sub-communities. The main feature of the site and what made it differ from the hundreds of diablo community websites is, it offered the ability to upload and/or download character clones, which long story short, were savefiles shared to the community, for various reasons. Be it just getting a fully completed character to play with, or showing off a new concept or build. Both hacked and legit characters were available.
At some point, the administrator, in the hope of bringing more people to the site, Median XL being very popular at this time (like it always has been and still is), has added the option of uploading median clones, along with creating a sub-forum for it, etc. That's around the same time some guy whose name I forgot, released a modified version of ********, which is a character editor designed by SVR from the Phrozenkeep, that "worked" with Median XL character savefiles.
That's how I found the community myself, being a young wannabe hacker at the time, I was looking for MXL hacks on the interwebs, and of course found ShadowDiablo. I slowly learned things, and at the same time I was also slowly getting into programming, and eventually built hacked median clones for the community, and also released a better working version of the MXL editor. At some point Brother Laz also found out about ShadowDiablo, giving me that bad reputation within the median community, and I was banned from it. Although I came back with a few different nicknames. I became an administrator on ShadowDiablo for all the work I had done, releasing unique character clones, new tools, etc.
Then my interest for MXL and hacking declined, as my interest for just modding and programming was growing. At this time, someone named Matt. J on ShadowDiablo had released a game administration tool called D2Guard, which was really useful back then when open bnet was still active. The guy went inactive, and D2Guard lacked a few features still. That's when I decided to make a "mod" for it with someone named Dimentio. Eventually I found out how to make it work and added a few commands to the tool, showing everything to Dimentio. While I was sleeping, the guy actually applied all the edits I showed off to him and released the tool under his name, without the slightest mention of my name. And all his time spent on this community has pretty much been spent stealing other's work and releasing it under his name after that. When I tried to say something about it, all my titles on the website were eventually revoked, and people treated me like I was the bad guy, because all they cared about was new tools & releases, didn't matter where they came from.
Seeing how they were ungrateful for all the work I had done for this community and the thousand of new visitors I brought to the site, and seeing they preferred praising their new savior Dimentio, I deleted everything I had ever released on this website, through various little security fails in the website. The site activity started noticeably declining after I was gone and that everything I had released was removed, and so I guess Jon, the administrator of the site just shut it down.
