You can't change the past, so the most you can do is accept it and learn from it, otherwise it is irrelevant. Think about what do you have to do now/in the future.

I agree 100% but accepting and learning from something doesn't mean you'll forget it. I've accepted and learned from my past with my abusive ex for example, but sometimes something will trigger a memory. I don't believe it's necessary for me to sit and reflect on this yet again, so I find something to distract me.

Well, yeah, ideally you need to do it once only. But i can imagine that not being possible. So idk then, maybe talk to somebody who knows more about this topic (therapist).
Distraction never really worked for me, even while "distracted" i knew in the back of my mind that I'm doing the wrong thing as any attempts to dodge the problem are futile in long term.

There are insane stuff that just ''accepting it'' and '''''''''''''''moving forward'''''''''''' (hate this fake bullshit cliché) are of no-use and you need distractions (even tho most of the time are useless). But for mid-high stuff, accepting it and embracing it is the only option, we all learned this the hard way I believe.

P.S I agree with jamie about the ''something will trigger a memory'', thats the bullet to the brain I was talking about. Sometimes you are just there, see a tiny bee or a tiny ant and something just shots you in the head with a .45 cal memory. BOOM! there you are for 2 days wondering how the fuck from a fucking little qt bee.XD!
