Do they need to walk through the pink fire to have life stolen from them or it just automatically steals life?

I think only the flames leech but I could be wrong here anyways it feels like hitting them with the + part of the cross works best

Is there any way I can increase item durability? I found an amazing katar that totally made my sin go from dying every second to breezing through maps, but the only problem is that it has 10 durability. I have to go back to town every 5 minutes. Halp plez.

There are jewels that add the stat "indestructible". That way you won't ever need to repair it anymore.
