melee assassin build question

I'm just curious if their are any melee builds that can do relatively low stuff like k3k with a basic set, that less concerned about death when a twig pokes you. If it works in something like duncraig or teganze without high SU's that's an added bonus. So i can farm the materials for more potent builds while still being melee (even though sigma seems to punish melee pretty harsh sometimes lol)


I was thinking of a few things

1 - noctule sin claw/shield at probably 30-40% block (likely won't have max block just yet, but it'll be aimed for)
2 - twin fang strike - dex build (not energy, strictly because of the added block to me seems better. idk if energy and dex have similar scaling though)
3 - trap sin (ik it's not melee, but for traps i'm willing to give) - i have a trap set but the dmg seems pretty mediocre, but also has really low +/- dmg and low energy (built at 104 with low sigs/charms takes a lot of dex/str investment). If it's viable (and at a relatively decent pace pref) then throwing some basic shrine crafted +/- lightening gear and ort runes in the sockets for a cheap starter build is very doable
4 - Naginata sin. idk how hades gate would work in farm content since it requires a corpse to tele strike unlike pounce and harbinger. but a 1 pt barrier strike full naginata seems possible. Just don't know if the defense/survival will be there without block (ll is great with naginata i'd assume, but if you're 2-3 shot life leech doesn't matter as much)

I'd love some idea's, potentially including item/skill setups that aren't pricy sacred uniques. but a set, few bella's, and maybe one or two others i'm more than willing to invest in. I just wanna play sin over the other classes as i enjoy the class, just don't know many viable approaches to it. and the older guides seem outdated (excluding the scorpion blade build in the guides)

Noctule with Judge, T4 SU's + some crafts will do just fine. Perhaps add a doom gong of xiansai or a witchhunter's hood, if u can get one. That should cover it. Try getting high rolls on +health charms / perhaps add a tenganze pendant or assurs banes to the mix until you can get more sigs and better gear, if you still feel that it's still too brittle.

i have a witchhunters (could get the full set) and teganze. though pretty sure my teganze is too high since it's mo'd for my sorc lol (120). is that actually enough on the survival? just feels my hp is rather low. potentially need some 30-40+ hp jewels in the judge. that'll take awhile, jewels are stingy on their rolls lol. if bosses are overly difficult my sorc can kill them for me.

of the bats on noctule, do they each carry the 65% weapon damage or is that strictly the initial strike with bats having the magic damage bonus? (if it's 65% each, then lifeleech would be nuts on that build, maybe 1-2 mana to sustain it.) Additionally, 1 point noctule or max noctule? ik some mana costs can get severely obsurd at higher levels without enough payoff, especially some of the WDM ones.

eddit: t4 su? you mean t4 uniques or sacred uniques? i have a few sacred uniques which could be relatively useful. my sorc is living off of endless loop (40% combat speeds is helping all her breakpoints so much it's letting her hit them all.) i could transfer that over, as she doesn't need it but it's very useful to have. Alternatively i could go for a dmg reduction belt (unless it brings me over 50% with shadow refuge ofc)

I'll use the henchmen trophy elemental set. just the amount of stats i get from it is insane. seeing as how the witchhunter set would lack a shield or full set bonus it doesn't really show much appeal. but a judge sacred claws + sacred shield seems to be more than enough. (Leorics Legion atm, till I make the shield). It'll take me awhile since i need to build up some tg and such, but that'll be my aim.

Noctule maxing is usually not recommended, unless you forgo all the Ways and smax Bat Strike + Noctule for magic damage. LL is indeed very good with noctule, each bat carries 65% unconverted wd.

As you have an endless loop, charged strike is actually decent on sin, it helps with clear (pierces) - so try it and see if you like the result. For block, an assassin shield with 4xPO has 6% base block and raises your survivability considerably. JudgeXIS is a given, it's not too hard to farm one Kabraxxis Stone and with an indest jewel and a decent ethereal base you are set for life. The rest of the gear you can fill up with generic melee stuff, like 2x ripstar, one of the physical TU4 body armors like War Cloak or Werecat and some dex crafted boots/circlet/gloves.

Twin Fang strike uses completely different gear, it's basically a melee caster - which needs a lot of gear with a delicate balance between offense and defense to work well.

Naginata is imo strictly a lategame farming spec and in dire need of a early/midgame-rebalance, even more so than clawsin. I switched to it for fauztUdunc farming once I got an ETH SU, Judgesin felt better until that point.

6-7k hp should be enough for you to never die in k3k unless you don't have any FHR. T4 SU's was indeed a mistake, meant T4 TU's. If you are unsure about the items:
Helm: T4U Skull Cap -> Witchhunter's Hood -> Royal Circlet
Amulet: Teganze (later any amulet with lottery)
Armor: Dragonheart (500 HP + possible jewels hp, def) until you are ready for a more damage oriented chest (Natasha's? maybe Natalya's with EWD, not sure about that one)
Weapon: Judge in Sacred Blade Talons (Scissors Katar or Claws, if u can't get them to drop) -> JudgeXIS in eth Blade Talons (alternatively Legio Di Manes until you get an eth drop to justify putting XIS in)
Shield: T4U Large Shield -> Doom Gong of Xiansai -> Eternal Bodyguard
Rings: 1sk fire/lightning rares -> Assur's -> Elemental Band + based on preference, probably Bad Mood for damage / Adr Rush for speeds or Emp Glory
Gloves: BlackJade's Legacy/Blind Anger/Geleb's Greed -> Rogue's Legacy (not sure here as I have different personal preference)
Belt: T4U Light Belt -> Endless Loop (not mandatory, but since you already have it - helps cover speeds/strength req) -> Dementia
Boots: 2 Assa Fascinating/Ornate craft -> Wind Runner

You can probably go more damage oriented later or swap for more MF for farming (Lilith's Temptation, looking at you), but a build like this can do all of the content with minor tweaks. If you want wolf stance you can get 2 pieces of fire set (gauntlets + boots/belt).

The bats indeed carry a lot of weapon damage, but claws have relatively low dmg themselves, (can still go quite high with Wind Runner, perhaps a Ripstar or some Taha's).

Skills: Max Phoenix/Gryphon Ways, Prism Cloak, Perf Being, Claw Mastery. Shadow Refuge until 50% DR, rest into Blink. If you plan on creating jewels please use Fauzt instead, the item level there is higher and allows for 5 crafts before the item level drops <99 (Do not leave the game!).

Here is my beloved melee-claw assa, lv 140 atm. Melee claw is quite fun and easy to play, need cheap gears only to shine.
Skill plan : 1 point for everything, except Shadow dancer, Perfect Being, ways of gryphon and phoenix ; 6 or 1 point to Blink, Queen of blades 1 or 5 targets, rest in Batstrike for extra magic dmg for Noctule.

Looking at a few of the suggestions some of them i'll certainly adapt

One says to avoid the melee assassin set, and i completely agree. Using the helm/chest atm because it's what i have. (will keep the helm though it's really solid since i don't have the SU circlet. only thing i may trade is for t4 daidem. 17-19% life on hit + str/dex/vit + longer buffs + good on hit damage. looks like a better offensive choice. i lose some resists, 2 max resists, 5 phys dr (made up for elsewhere)

people seem to agree also on way of the gryphon > Beacon so that i'll do as well (probably because bat bonuses.)

Theirs conflicting opinions on blind, though i'll probably go with it at a solid level since it provides me with a lot of survival via multi stuns. a preference thing here

Queen of blades idk about, seems very useful given high density and multiple ricochet's but idk. will test that as i get more bella's (using my only current one to respec to these reccomendations.)

Chest - the life leech warecat TU4 is what my merc has and is tempting because of the LL alone. I'll craft 5 ll jewels and make a dragonheart with them. 50% attack speed + my SU belt is all the attack speed i need (too much actually, but combat speeds are so good).

Weapon - i'll switch to a judge/xis when i can get ahold of a xis rune. that will be a little while though, as currently my sorc will probably have to do a few of my charms for me. my sorc can't really farm the area for that rune either, she just dies after a couple packs currently lol.

shield - i'll try out su when i can. current options are a crafted 1% block 5% dr resists/high dex/dex% abandoned shield, or Wheel of Fortune for more max resists/absorb (though physical is more of a threat to me

gloves - i'll try out the vicegrip till i can get some of the sacred unique gloves. crucify/max dmg is useful more AoE is more AoE. idk about the -200 defense since ar isn't an issue for dex focused classes. and the % str might help but i'm honestly not sure, since it'd need to be t3 for the str to have actual value with the gear i'm using.

rings - i'll try to get a couple empyrean bands. having 3k hp is honestly the only issue i'm having currently, even without maxed ways or batstrike synnergy etc. my damage is more than enough to massacre.

It gives me a few things to work towards and mess around with though. I appreciate it


edit: as for jewels, i don't plan to use fautz for them just yet since i don't have access to it yet. I'll be using k3k jewels as i've got an abundance of them with high access. as for the synergy, I think i'll use shadow dancer as my dmg synergy over bat strike. I'd gain more damage from batstrike it feels, but since i'm socketing a fair bit of life/mana steal the extra physical damage bonus seems more benefitial. less dmg more sustain. I have 3 bella's atm, at least 1 of them for when i get my 115 charms and vamp icon. Queen of blades is tempting for some of the melee unfriendly ubers, and more life/mana leech passively. but putting points into Shadow Dancer passive means i don't have enough to go around (13 unspent atm, but as levels come in, and max lvl charms. those will go away pretty quick.)

Hey, any comments about Ligeia runewords in shields (normal/XIS version) - it gives Hades Gate on kill.
Some time earlier (10 years :P ) HG had knockback and this was really uber-powerfull build - judgesin with that shield, in high density areas you are invincible and clean stuff very fast.
Now i see that HG has no knockback, but still, AoE "pounce" should help clear dunc/cows/K3K or teganze very fast, no? I did not tested this with current patch (my asa still low lvl), only used long time ago. I know, it's hard to get max block with such setup, but maybe not needed due to killspeed?

It would likely help with kill speed don't get me wrong, but not as well as judge me thinks. 18% chance to cast hammer on striking adds up pretty fast when you're hitting a couple hundred times per noctule cast. 25-30% dex is nothing to scoff at either. (idk the damage of the forked lightning, but way of the gryphon does boost it some.) and i'm not too sure about the stun attack either.

does it have a % chance on attack (which is my guess) or on striking (which could very quickly get broken with the amount of bats).

Probably a better option for naginata sin than claw sin. but that's my opinion

edit: tis a shield, not doable with naginata. and it's in a shield not weapon. it might actually be pretty solid for a dps gain. you'll need more dex for max block, and some offset for the -50 poison res. but it doesn't seem that bad at all. at the very least it could be a solid option till you get an end game shield. Idk if i'd use it, would need to play and see. if i end up hades gate on some random target killed 1/2 a screen away from birds that throws me out of position, maybe not. if it's always cast on something near your cursor then i could see it being relatively useful. but 2% block at 120 is alot. at 3015 dex lvl 120 is max block with 2% on shield. 0% is 4515. So assuming 2.3k dex 120 you'll be at 38% or 57% respectively from that 2% block.

So if losing out on block, and replacing some poison resists is an acceptable trade for teleporting around on hades gate then by all means. At the very least it's a cheap runeword to test out and see how it works.

(block%(dex-15))/(2*clvl) = block rate

reversing that

(((2*clvl)*(intended block rate))/base block %)+15 = required dex for intended block rate

just remember block rate is class base + % on gear + 1% (if using class shield)

I dont think SU hight-strength-req is good choise for you atm. Try to put at least points into strength, max block is very important with this build. After have some stat charms, you can wear everything you want.
Weapons : Judge runeword is good for crowd and switch to Hail runeword with single target ubers.
P/s : i said rest in Batstrike because at endgame, you really dont need put much points into Prismatic/Queen of blades/Blink. Atm I only put 1pt for these 3 skills.
