Getting the most out of Parasite

Figured this was a bit too nuanced for the Short Questions Thread.

Parasite is main attack for most melee necros.

My question is: what affixes affect the damage of those missiles (which are the lion's share of your DPS, not the initial hit) and which don't? Is it known? I assume flat damage or %damage affect it in a straightforward way.

But what about:

Dragonfire Oil
Mag/phys damage
Spell damage
%EWD

How do those affect your Parasite projectile damage, if at all? Might have left some out, that was off the top of my head.

And how accurate is the tooltip DPS for this skill?

It's a projectile weapon damage attack. So: yes, no, no, yes in that order. Crushing blow, deadly strike, flat damage on gear all work too because it's a weapon damage attack.

The tooltip damage per hit (not dps) will be reasonably accurate as long as you do not stack a lot of spell damage mods. Those will increase tooltip damage, but won't actually apply.

If by 'Mag/phys damage' he means flat phys/mag damage then it will work like any other flat damage. If he meant mag/phys spell damage then no it won't work.
on striking and on kill procs will also work

Yes, and melee necros don't suffer when it comes to killing single targets :mrgreen:

But don't discount on attack procs. They won't trigger with each missile but they will trigger often due to your wicked fast attack rate.

I actually struggled a bit vs single target. Whirlpool and or bane would probably help tho.

Is it necessary for one to mention in every melee necro thread/discussion that your necro is bad against single targets. Just put some mind into it, do research. Invest into atack rating, speed, on atack affic/suffix and benefit from it. There are many options, don't ignore them.

ah didn't know it was a thing. I had ideas what to do, but never really commited enough to test them.

True. It's just a myth. Melee Necro is awesome.
