REVAMPED VERSION FOR MxL 2017
The new Mxl 2017 patch brought many changes to game and this build was affected by it significantly. So I think it's a good time to pay a visit to this old guide of mine and update it to the current version.

*The Big Changes
The patch is not kind to this build, there are many things to talk about, but there're few important one:
-Sacrifice is completely butchered with the nerf. The amount of corpses spawned doesn't scale with level anymore. Before you can spawn at least 20~30 corpses on 1 cast but now it's cap at 10.
-Reanimate chances on all item across the board is cut in half (except for hidden crafted item)
-Monster's rebalance which also affects reanimate cause their stat is based on the monsters'. Basically, their HP is reduces by half and their damage is doubled, they now die much faster than before.
-HIdden Shrine craft only grant 1% + 2% reanimates now, instead of 1% + 2% + 2%
-Jinn grants significantly less elemental pierce, about 1/3 compared to before the patch.

With all the changes, I can only come to conclusion that this build is completely dead... at least the old way of playing it that is.

*So... What now?
Luckily, I've found a new way to play reanimator. Here's the basic of the new reanimator build:

this is the mandatory item of the new build, because of the nerf to sacrifice, it's impossible to have a decent amount of reanimate now, this item fixes that. The shield grantsthe "Devil's Fang Totem" skill which summons a totem that cast sacrifices 5 times which then get reanimated as astruguar (a weak specllcaster reanimate), the number of corpses spawned scales with level. This will replace sacrifices as your main skill. However, due to the fact that the sacrificial lambs are killed by the totem and not you, it'll always spawn astruguar and not any other reanimate, which is a problem because astruguars spawned by the totems are extremely weak and squishy (I believe their HP is specifically toned down to prevent easy meat shield). So to solve this problem, we will use the skill Pestilence (The final skill in the malice tree) to "kill-steal" the sacrificial lambs before the totem kill them, Just use Bend the Shadow so you're always at the center of the totem. This way, every corpses spawn will be killed by you and have your reanimate instead. With one cast of Devil's Fang Totem you can have upward to 100 reanimate (Average 20 Sacrificial Sheeps per cast and the totem casts 5 time).

Opinion on the build
This build is overall better than the old one:
-Better clear speed
-More mobile
-Tankier
-Much better chance at getting those 1% chances reanimate thanks to massive amount of corpses spawned.

I'll update the guide later when I have time. If you have any questions, you can comment here or PM me personally, you can also PM in game if you want. IGN *l2o5ng. That's it for now. Happy farming!!

INTRODUCTION

Reanimate Necro or Reanimator is a build focus on reanimate (you know, those creatures spawned off the corspe after you kill something) . This build can't be played until quite late into the game so I do not think it's beginner's friendly. However, it's still a cheap build cause the build doesn't require any SU/SSU/SSSU to function, although it can be very godly with the right gear. In this guide, I will try to provide you with detailed information I've accumulate while playing the build as well as how to archive great success with it :P

CORE OF THE BUILD
Stats
-Str: Enough for gearing
-Dex: Put all the points here
-Vit: None
-Energy: None

Skill Points Distribution
-sMax Death's Fury Totem
-sMax Howling Totem
-sMax Elbalming
-sMax Death ward
-20 points into Deathlord
-1 point into pestilence
-1 point into sacrifices
-1 point into bend the shadow
-1 point into talon's hold
-1 point into skeletal flayer
-1 point into black mass

How to Play
-First use sacrifices before approaching any pack of mobs, summon Death's Fury and Howling totems, wait until the cooldown is gone then luring the enemies toward where your sacrifices then use Devil's Fangs totem, which will spawn a ton of corpses. Try to teleport around as much as possible with bend the shadow to spread the reanimate. Also using
Ngozi
in off-hand for easy healing with Pargan Rites. Repeat the process until no mob is left on the map.
-The new build require you to play differently from the old one, instead of staying behind and sacrifice, you have to teleport around a lot, which often means being in front of the enemies, so we're gonna use both Deathlord and Deathward to increase our surviability. With both of them, we'll be super tanky even with bad gears.
-If you want to use a two-hand weapon then just equip the shield on off-hand together with
Ngozi
. Switch to off-hand to cast devil's fang totem then switch back to main hand for the reanimate.

SKILLS
INNATE SKILL
Image Summon a wall of fire that buff unit walking through. A very good buff skill, but it is very annoying to use, mainly because you have to recast it 4-5 times if you want to buff the entire army. You can use this skills until you get other buff skill like Bloodlust (which is wayyyyy easier to use).

TOTEM TREE

DEATH'S FURY TOTEM (Require a corspe)
Image Summon a totem from a corspe. This totem adds Fire/Cold/Ligtning damage to you and your ally's attack (NOT spell), this will be your main way to a buff your reanimate's damage.

HOWLING TOTEM (Require a corspe)
Image Summon a totem from a corspe. This totem increases nearby ally's physical damage, adds crushing blow (remove a percentage of target's current HP on hit and a small chance to cause target to flee on hit.

MINIONS TREE

EMBALMING (PASSIVE)
Image increase life and mana regen of you and your minions. A very good passive, it helps you with your surviability in case something got past the frontline of your army, you would still have some HP to back your @ss up.

SACRIFICES
Image spawn Sacrifical Lamb (fake enemies) and kill them, thus trigger "chance to reanimate as *insert* monster". Use this skill to get corpses for summoning totem.

BEND THE SHADOWS
Image teleport to a selected minion, bringing yourself as well as every minions/totems/merc you have at that moment, also add a small amout of Magic Find to nearby ally and weaken yourself. Move around by first summon a shadow then use this skill. You must use this skill with caution, the debuff it inflicts on you make you highly vulneable to physical damage (50% increased damage taken for 5 sec) .

BANE
Image Cast a nova from selected minion which debuffs anything it comes in contact with, immensely weaken their physical resistance. This skill is pretty strong when pairs with Howling Totem, it also has a spell timer (1 sec) so you should use it in between every Sacrifices to maximize damage output

SUMMONING TREE

SUMMON Skeletal Flayer
Image Summon a minion with Demon Blood Aura. The aura increases maximum health, elemental damage and gives a small amount of life regen, this summon benefits your reanimates greatly so be sure to always have it around.

SUMMON VOID ARCHON
Image Summon a minion with Warp Field Aura . The aura weaken your enemies, causing them to deal less damage and slower their attack speed. The damage reduction part of the aura doesn't increase with skill level, however, the attack speed part does. Overal a pretty strong summon, make sure to always have it summoned.

MALICE TREE

NIGHTWALKER
Image Gives you a huge chunk of cast speed and poison length reduction, also each hard point in this skill gives Increases damage to spells from Malice Tree, also it gives avoid to your totems.

PESTILENCE
Image Use this skill together with Devil's Fang totem to create massive amount of reanimate. Once cast it'll automatically kill sacrifical lambs for you. You only need to cast this 1 every 20 seconds

MELEE TREE

DEATH LORD
Image Tranform into Deathlord, which grants you bonus stats and base defence base on total Str and Dex. Note Base defense can be furthere increase with %# increase defence on item or from Deathward

ENNEAD SKILL

BLACK MASS
Image Greatly buff you and your nearby ally with increase velocity, ignore target's defence and also gives Life on striking in melee. This skill is crucial for a reanimator, the velocity buff help you keep your army together.
*NOTES: The ignore target's defence doesn't work on unique boss

BLACK ROAD SKILL
Image When active, you will peredically shoot a punisher every few second to nearby enemies. Deak extremely high poison damage.

UBERSKILLS

DEATH WARD(PASSIVE)
Image Increases your defence greatly and grant you an chance to avoid damage. Note that the avoid part of this passive can only be improved with hard skill point.

ELEMENTAL TOTEM (from
Wizard's Path
)
Image Summon a totem from a corspe. The totem increases elemental damage (include spell) of nearby ally. it works really well with deathfury's totem. Note: The elemental damage buff only affect on-hit elemtanl damage of melee reanimate and not ranged one. For example: melee attack by a Skeleton affected by Death's Fury Totem and Kraken Stance will receive damage boost from Elemental Totem, while ranged attack from Necrobot will not

HOUNFOR (from
Ngozi
)
Image summon a spell circle beneath your feet. while stepping on it, you will gain +10 to all skill and increased mana regen. Use this skill before casting a totem to make your totem stronger (and purple-er). Note You can't use it in Deathlord form

PAGAN RITES (from
Ngozi

Image this skill consumes all the corpses around you and heals you for a percent of your HP. This skill is crucial for your survival, since we use sacrifices as our main skill, we will always have corpse laying around. Make use of this skill to get you out of sticky situation.

BLOODLUST (from

Image this skill unleashes a nova of vicious energy , granting you and your ally increased physical damage, elemental damage and physical/magic spell damage. This skill gives higher physical damage buff but lesser elemental and physical/magic spell damage than your Burning Veil skill.

EARLY GAME
You can't play this build before you reach at least level 100 so you should play other build until later then do a full respec. Here's some notes when leveling.

Level Challenge 1
*NOTE:MAXIMUM LEVEL 50 (Ice Priestess, Lightning Priestess)

Go to the Tran Athulua uberlevel on Hatred difficulty, defeat the Pirate at the entrance to get the Elemetal Prism. Find and defeat any of the three Priestesses. Each will drop her Sunstone. Cube it immediately while you have the red swirls on you. This will upgrade your Elemetal Prism, if your level is low enough. You have 30 seconds to cube the Sunstone with the Elemetal Prism after killing the Priestess. Here's the map:

Image

ENNEAD CHALLENGE
*NOTE:MAXIMUM LEVEL 80

Go to the Kurast 3000 BA uberlevel (Can be found in Travincal) on any difficulty and kill the Ennead Necromancer bosses until your Class Charm drops. The Necromancer as well as any mob in this uber cannot be damaged when they're near a totem. So destroy the totem first then slowly proceed. After you get the charm, cube it with any jewel to get the bonuses. Also, the necromancer only have 1/7 chance to drop your character charm so be patient. Here's the maps (2 variants):

Level Challenge 2
*NOTE:MAXIMUM LEVEL 90

Go to act 3 Proving Ground on Terror difficulty and destroy the Death Projector, then cube your class charm with a Perfect Gem to grant the bonus. In order to damage the Projector, you need to have at least 1 death mechanic nearby. The trick here is to lure all but one death mechanic away. This way it'll be much easier to kill the Projector.

EARLY GAME
You can play the build as soon as you get to act 5 Hatred. At this point you should have access to T6

Urada
. Craft this badboy as soon as you get level 100, it's all you need to clear the whole game really.

GEAR

*NOTE: Whether a reanimate is good or not will be based on 5 things:
+CONSISTENCY: % chance to reanimate.
+LAG: varied from slight slutter to completely freeze your screen.
+TANKINESS: Mike Tyson or Little Mac?
+UTILITY: buff,debuff,crowd control,...
+DPS: Determine how much damage the reanimate can dish out
+CLEAR SPEED: Determine how fast the reanimate can clear a pack of monsters

MAIN WEAPONS
Urada

REANIMATE: Necrobot: Necrobot is a mob you encounter in fauztinvile uber, extremely tanky (thanks to physical immune), HIgh attack speed with pierce projectile, it will increase your clear speed by a lot.
+CONSISTENCY: 3
+LAG: 1
+TANKINESS: 4
+UTILITY: 1
+DPS: 3
+CLEAR SPEED: 5

ON SWITCH
Ngozi

+It offers 2 great skills: Pagan Rites and Hounfor. Pagan Rites is your main healing skill, when your HP is low, simply switch weapon and heal; you will reach full health with only 1 use. Hounfor is good for pre-buffing, always use it when you create totems, the created totems will have the +10 to all skill buff from hounfor (and turn purple!!). If you use Deathlord then simply pre-buff your totems then tranform, your totems are really tanky so you shouldn't worry about them dying too much.

ARMORS
CRAFTED ARMORS
+Use shrine (hidden shrine if possible) to craft some decent armors. Stats you should look for: good reanimate (If use hidden shrine) > maximum HP > Defence > Magic Find > Vitality. When you get some decent enough armors, MO them with %chance to reanimate as skeleton then socket all of them with Lum Runes. At the end of the day, you should have ~250 MF, that's enough for farming gears.

FARMING SPOTS
+Nihlathak run: Nihlathak drops 1 stat signet and 3 uniques on Terror or 2 stat signets and a unique everytime you kill him on Destruction. Although we can't rush Nihlathak as fast as other build, we can make up for it by the unique drop along the way. Trust me, with ~250+ MF, your stash will be filled with unique in no time
+Diablo run: Diablo drops 4 uniques on death and has a high chance to drop sacred unique. Running him may not be as efficent as Nihlathak but who knows what OP unique he may drops.
+Terror Cow: 1 of the fastest way to reach level 120, the cows here aren't very dangerous and always come in big pack.

ENDGAME
GEAR
*NOTES: These items I about to list are very expensive, although they are not required to enjoy this build, they are extremely helpful and you can become Godly with some of them. I'll provide you with as much information as I can.

I have done some testing with it, most of the time you will only get about 1 or 2 Trap Rat, which is the same as using crafted item. The reason (I think) is because this item consists of many reanimates with high reanimate chance, which will overshadow other reanimate with low reanimate chance as well as make a specific reanimate appears much less frequently.

However, they also spawns monsters on death, which means in some areas such as Duncraig or Triune, it's extremely dangerous if they die unoticed cause they can spawn Slan Soul/Temple Spire which has 1 shot ability. On the bright side, it's also great for farming cause it increases mob density :P .

Note that she always spawn the same monsters everytime she sacrifices unless you re-summon her. If you run out of charge, simply repair, the item has low durability so it has very cheap repair cost.

FARMING SPOTS
+Kurast 3000 BA (Drop Bias: Set): If you use Bane, the skeleton can be damaged even when they have invelnerable shield. So the trick is this: Do Not Rush, always sacrifices to keep those mobs busy. When u see a totem, if there aren't many mob around it you should use bend the shadow on top of the totem and let your minions do the work. But if there are lots of mobs protecting it, you should either sacrifice on top of the totem to distract the mob and wait till the totem's killed or sacrifice away from the totem to lure the mobs there and Bend the Shadow to quickly take out the totem, depend on the situation. All in all, this place is quite annoying to farm until you get a hang of it.

Tran Athulua (Drop Bias: Unique): This is your main farming spot when started doing uber. Meat shield doesn't help much in TA, amazon use piercing arrows, cast arrowside on death which will surely kill you in 1 volley. to top it all up, priestesses use tremor which massively reduce your HP (Most of the time it took 3/4 of my health) and cast Phalanx which is impossible to not get hit. Be careful and play safe (400k + defence is recomended)

Unreformed Land (Elemental Runes): Our build's favorite farming spot, elemental's missle does not pierce so as long as you have lots of meatshield and stay behind your reanimates, you simply can not die. The map here has multiple floors so it took a while to fully clear it.

The Triune (Cycle): Just some notes: Impaler Archon's laser hurts a lot, watch out for that. The Totems here cast 1-shot-meteor so watch your steps. Kraken Guardian isn't very dangerous, but beware do not stand near them when they die. Last but not least, Clay Golem, use Shower of Rock,Do not stand near these guys.

Toraja (Great Runes: Krys, Auhe, Sha'ad): Pretty standard stuffs, stand beind your reanimates -> summon edyrem -> profit. You can also respec and use Rathma's Phantom instead of Jinn. Though I think the kill speed is good enough as it is.

Fauztinvile (Great Runes: Taha, Ghal, Qor): This place is very hard and stressful to farm. Necrobot is a huge pain in the @ss with their piercing missle and immense tankiness with physical immune, without something like Trap Rat, Quov Tsin or Kraken Stance, it'll take age to kill them. And then there's Harplisk... I get PTSD everytime I hear that bouncing blade sound, it hits incredibly hard. Neon Fiend and their blade barrier will surely annoy you to death. TL:DR Play safe... and prepare some lubes..

Vizjun (Drop Bias: Jewel): You think Fauztinvile is bad? Here's come Vizjun. Slowly proceed and Do Not Rush. watch out for the piercing laser of Magineer, these dudes are basically Necrobot on steroid, fast attack speed. Mind your feet, mobs drop land mine on dead which deal massive fire damage. Also, don't get nuked.

Duncraig (Drop Bias: Sacred): We cannot get through the teleport part alive, cause jitan's gate or Teleport lock-out our sacrifices. We can still farm the first few rooms quite "safely" though. Our reanimates can take a few barrels to kill here so as long as we stay behind and watch out for barrels, we're good. Also, here's a trick if you get dunked right after entering Duncraig: Sacrifices before you enter the room, summon Devil's fang totem then quickly enter the Uber. This way, devil's fang totem will immediately cast sacrifices as the enemies are near.

I've done some testing with
Zakarwa's Betrayal
and I must say it's pretty fun to play with, I can get over 200+ reanimate and it completely filled my scene with zombie much like
Ghoul Lord
. However, there exist much better weapon for your main wep and you can't really use it in your on-switch either,
Ngozi
just benefits us too much. And about the devil fang, it's not worth it, Astraguar mainly cast spell (punisher) and it has neither good attack speed to benefit from deathfury nor high enough spell damage to benefit from elemental totem.
