The Xbow Necro
General: This simplified guide is meant to help anyone with the want for an overpowered ranged class get into the shoes of the extremely powerful Xbow Necromancer. With almost limitless gear possibilities and different skill point usage I am going to list what I personally have found to work very well together to accomplish what I think is a great end game able to farm most basic charms with the listed tier unique setup making this possible for any player without requiring the optional and expensive end game setup.

Skill Points: (will be listed by sMax and 1 pointers, all skills listed are all skills used any others on the way are just stepping stones to get to what we need)

You will be sMaxing the following:

Voodoo Shot - Main skill used for killing mobs/bosses (must target your minion to cast)
Dragonfire Oil - Passive skill for adding HUGE fire damage to each bolt
Famine - Insane enhanced damage and life leech
Embalming - Huge life bonus for self and minions with a side of mana regen

These will be 1 pointers:

Fragmentation Shot - This powerful 1 pointer is set to left click 24/7 and is used for running through maps and quickly killing blockages without summoning/minion targeting or getting out of some spots where there just simply isn't enough time or space to get a summon up
Shadows - Provides demon blood aura which adds a significant amount of health and elemental damage try and keep at least 1 around but do not make it your priority
Rampagors - These meatheads eventually become strong enough to take all the hits with just 1 point, and proper end game gear these guys will have a lot of life
Lamia - Useless in earlier patches these guys received a much needed health buff making them useful meatshields when needed
Void Archon - Provides a very useful Warp Field aura that weakens enemies attacks by reducing their damage and speed.
Rathma's Chosen - Makes your minion invulnerable to all damages but poison. This skill in combination with Veil King which was once poison immune upon summoning was used to "cheese" almost all ubers causing a fix which now removes any buffed minions poison resists to prevent other summons such as Acid Fiends to take the Veil Kings place. This fix now makes their only vulnerability kill them even quicker which isn't quite fair but has not been too much of an issue
Talons Hold - Gives us our slow along with some useful reanimates
Bend the Shadows - Our timerless teleport used in combination with Voodoo Shot to allow us to spam and keep up with our minions
Graveyard - This buff when active, periodically casts punishers at nearby enemies killing anything that gets too close unless perhaps it is poison immune
***Summon Bane Monster - Given by jewelry, from mystic orbs purchased at vendors. "Leashless" These guys are going to give you your optimal kill range helping clear maps with ease... 2-3 screens away

See my gameplay here:

Stat Points:

Strength: Everything*
Dexterity: None*
Vitality: None
Energy: None
*All strength and no dexterity is an end game setup for optimal damage output but is only to be used when sufficient attack rating comes from charms or gear. Dexterity and attack rating are not needed when using ignore targets defense

Now for the fun part!!!

Gear: As I said earlier there are almost limitless combinations but here is what I find to work best for me including alternate choices starting with the most available (tier unique) and working into the end game gear (sacred unique) options.

Tier Unique Gear
With these options there will be plenty of room for mystic orbs and I will provide some orbing tips for an optimal Zomg Xbow beginning experience
Sockets simplified - Weapon: 6x Jah, Sha only if necessary - Armors: Lum but use Thai to help with resists while farming your charms
Be careful not to pass your Necromancer's current level or level 120 with Mystic Orbs deeming your gear unusable

t6 Corpsefling (Trebuchet) - Great damage output, plague avatar, crushing blow, life steal, and flat life bonus socket with Jah runes using Sha to complete any missing attack speed after gear (target increased attack speed is +125% with an extra 15% to make up for the -15% on your Corpsefling, allowing you the maximum attack speed break-point for xbow necromancers)
Mystic Orbs: 15x +10 max damage, cap the max tier unique enhanced damage of 350% excluding your Jah runes. Do not waste a mo slot for <10% enhanced damage, every slot is valuable here. Note: When adding mystic orbs - eventually adding jah runes will add +7 to the base level and sha +14 to the items current level - be careful not pass your characters level or level 120) If your oil of luck fails and you find yourself adding more than 100 points into dexterity, consider adding +100-250% attack rating with mystic orbs to prevent too many points being lost into dexterity.
Two-Hand Damage: (487-540) to (782-872)
(Necromancer Only)
Required Strength: 399
Required Level: 58
10% CtC lvl 28 Plague Avatar when you Kill an Enemy
+(261 to 300)% Enhanced damage
-15% Decreased Attack Speed
+(176 to 200) to Maximum Damage
(23 to 26)% Life stolen per Hit
-(31 to 35)% to Enemy Poison Resistance
(23 to 25)% Chance of Crushing Blow
+(351 to 400) to Life
Socketed: 6
Even with Oil of Luck having failed, this is what it can be made into:
Image

Tartarus Trebuchet (Yul Runeword) - The only downside to Tartarus is the Singularity proc will occasionally block your Voodoo Shot. Other than that Tartarus offers +4max damage per level, 301-350% enhanced damage, with 101-150 life after each kill and a big 41-50% bonus to strength
Mystic Orbs: 9x +10 max damage as you should have already reached the maxed enhanced damage cap when making trebuchet. Getting Luck Trial costs 1 orb slot but doubles the bonuses from the rest of your usable space
10% Chance to cast level 21 Singularity when you Kill an Enemy
+(301 to 350)% Enhanced damage
-10% Slower Run/Walk
-10% Decreased Attack Speed
+(4 per level) to Maximum Damage (Based on Character Level)
+10% Bonus to Summoned Minion Damage
(41 to 50)% Bonus to Strength
Fire Resist +100%
Lightning Resist +100%
+(101 to 150) Life after each Kill
Image

Note: A maximum of 15% (with less possibly required) reanimate Fallen One and Skeleton is suggested in combination with Talon's Hold to prevent FPS loss and or Lag
(there is such thing as too many reanimates)

t6 Auriel's Halo (tiara) - High additional fire damage to include with our -100% enemy fire resistance, Dragonfire Oil, and t6 Dragontail (plated belt), fire and cold resistances, lacking in stats this is still the best choice for tier unique in my opinion.
Defense: (177-313)
Durability: 20
Required Dexterity: (180-176)
Required Level: 51
+(2 to 3) to Paladin Skill Levels
Adds (241 to 480)-(561 to 1120) fire damage
Adds (241 to 480)-(561 to 1120) cold damage
Fire Resist +(36 to 40)%
Cold Resist +(36 to 40)%
Requirements (-18 to -20)%
Socketed: 4

t6 Albrecht's Revenge (chain mail) - Nice Arrow proc to help with incoming enemies, lots of meat shields, cold resist and a great potential for high cold damage but there is potentially a much better option.
Mystic Orbs: Try to make up for any resistances that are missing typically using all resist mystic orbs until the first resistance is capped (you will need to add more mo's to the rest of your gear and to save orbing space optional thai runes can be used) then we need to aim for -100% enemy fire resistance - try to consider stats such as faster hit recovery, damage reduced, uninterruptable attack and strength to fill in any extra room for orbs
Defense: (1432-2735)
Durability: 63
Required Strength: (200-188)
Required Level: 49
10% CtC lvl 1 Arrow on Striking
Adds (401 to 800)-(801 to 1600) cold damage
+(131 to 150)% Enhanced Defense
Cold Resist +(46 to 50)%
(23 to 25)% Reanimate as: Returned Archer
+(52 to 60) Life after each Demon Kill
Requirements (-36 to -40)%
Socketed: 6

t6 Jitan's Kamon (splint mail) - Good defense, 10% Guard Tower proc on kill, huge potential for high rainbow damage, and a much needed 10% DR making this more likely the best selection if meat-shields are of no concern
Mystic Orbs: Again we are going to make up our resistances and possibly add some helpful meat shields such as Fallen One's or Skeleton since we are not using Albrecht's Revenge while at the same time keeping -100% enemy fire resist our main priority then using orbs such as faster hit recovery, damage reduced, uninterruptable attack and strength to fill in any remaining room
Defense: (2170-4307)
Durability: 75
Required Strength: 391
Required Level: 49
100% CtC lvl 42 Singularity when you Die
10% CtC lvl 19 Guard Tower when you Kill an Enemy
Adds (241 to 480)-(481 to 960) fire damage
Adds (241 to 480)-(481 to 960) lightning damage
Adds (241 to 480)-(481 to 960) cold damage
+(191 to 220)% Enhanced Defense
Damage Reduced by 10%
Socketed: 6

t6 Dragontail (plated belt) - Good defense, Seal of Fire proc dealing fire damage, potentially huge fire damage (due to variables re-rolling may be required, I would aim for the higher end of the spectrum to compliment Dragonfire Oil and the target goal of -100% enemy fire resistances), faster run/walk and attack speed with fire resist make this my favorite tier unique choice
Mystic Orbs: You can keep your stat lines low by adding any needed fire resistances here, any necessary meat shield reanimates while still keeping your faster hit recovery, damage reduced, uninterruptable attack and strength in mind
Defense: (2048-2848)
Durability: 61
Required Strength: 519
Required Level: 52
10% CtC lvl 13 Seal of Fire on Attack
30% Faster Run/Walk
40% Increased Attack Speed
Adds (241 to 480)-(641 to 1280) fire damage
Stun Attack
+(191 to 220)% Enhanced Defense
Fire Resist +(66 to 75)%
Socketed: 2

t6 Deadfall (Heavy Belt) - Shower of Rocks proc, 10% crushing blow, flat strength bonus, lightning resist, and 18-20% uninterruptable attack believe it or not id have to say this comes in 2nd to the above Dragontail but is too good to leave out this is almost a preference, and I usually prefer zooming across maps, through mobs and having higher flat fire damage to each shot from Dragontail over the shower of rocks proc, crushing blow, strength and some lightning resist but do not be steered away, this is also a very great choice so I will let the decision be yours
Mystic Orbs: Here we can add any needed lightning resistances to keep our stat lines low, any necessary meat shield reanimates while again keeping your faster hit recovery, strength, damage reduced and uninterruptable attack in mind
Defense: (1970-2751)
Durability: 52
Required Strength: 404
Required Level: 50
10% CtC lvl 13 Shower of Rocks when you Kill an Enemy
10% Chance of Crushing Blow
+(241 to 280)% Enhanced Defense
+(66 to 75) to Strength
Lightning Resist +(36 to 40)%
(18 to 20)% Chance of Uninterruptable Attack
Socketed: 2

t6 Featherclaw (chain gloves) - Great faster run/walk and attack speed with a huge % bonus to attack rating including flat dexterity and open wounds this choice is going to help prevent too many early/mid game stat points from being spent into dexterity while helping us zoom through maps and mobs
Defense: (549-777)
Durability: 39
Required Strength: 244
Required Level: 48
40% Faster Run/Walk
30% Increased Attack Speed
(171 to 200)% Bonus to Attack Rating
(18 to 20)% Chance of Open Wounds
+(131 to 150)% Enhanced Defense
+(31 to 35) to Dexterity
+(351 to 400) Maximum Stamina
Socketed: 4

t6 Death Spur (heavy boots) - Spike Nova on damage proc, huge max damage, open wounds, and flat strength/dexterity make these my obvious favorite for damage out of the two tier unique choices
Defense: (248-306)
Durability: 42
Required Strength: 179
Required Level: 46
1% CtC lvl 16 Spike Nova when you Take Damage
+(1 per lvl) to Maximum Damage (Based on Clvl)
(46 to 50)% Chance of Open Wounds
+(36 to 40) to Strength
+(36 to 40) to Dexterity
Socketed: 4

t6 Rabbit's Foot (boots) - Great for farming, these boots can be socketed with Lum runes for up to 155% magic find! That's huge for just 1 piece of gear!
Defense: (185-212)
Durability: 29
Required Strength: 77
Required Level: 43
40% Faster Run/Walk
+(351 to 400) Maximum Stamina
(14 to 15)% Chance of Uninterruptable Attack
(351 to 400)% Extra Gold from Monsters
(66 to 75)% Magic Find
Socketed: 4

For jewelry you can begin crafting once ilvl66 rings/amulets become available. Until then you can just aim for rings/amulets with skill points and any other useful stats that may come on them or any uniques you may come across. Here we can skip +fire % spell damage as it does not add to your Dragonfire oil's damage due to it being a passive skill and not a spell but the character screen will show otherwise. It has been proven that the stock character stat screen can show false damage output. For this reason and is not always accurate when calculating some damages.

Rings: Our target here is 1 all skills, there's many options of what you can do here such as go for -enemy fire resist as we will need to reach -100% total. I like to include either Unseelie Curse proc to eliminate ranged enemies attacks such as Necrobots Lazorgunz or even Supernova proc - You want to look cool while killing too, right? Very Happy Unique Rings can be used, first orb your rings to get 15% chance to cast level 3 Thunder Hammer, Summon Bane Monster and then any other needed stats.

Amulet: Again we are going for max skill points which is now 5 with the new Blessed Oil of Luck recipe but 3 or maybe even 2 will do for now as you will be including 5% chance to cast level 44 Doom on kill and lets face it, this can be annoying to craft and perfection is not everything until end game. Again we can't go wrong with adding another 15% chance to cast level 3 Thunder Hammer. With tier unique gear we have more than likely already accomplished our -100% enemy fire resist if not if can be finished here. If you still have room you may add to the level of your Summon Bane Monster to gain more minion life for easier long distance map clearing.

Achilio's Wake, the Xbow Necromancer set
Here we have many great set bonuses that I will give a brief highlight of:
10 life on striking!!! This is huge and a big life saver making the crossbow a good option to use with your tier unique gear, 40% chance to cast level 6 Spike Nova on kill, 550 to max damage (the gloves and boots also add 82-100), 70% increased attack speed, 36-40% crushing blow, 45% all resistances, the list just keeps going.
Mystic Orbs: If you do not have enough dexterity and/or +% attack rating you will want to use a Blessed Oil of Luck on your Achilio's crossbow for a chance at 40-60% enhanced damage and/or 100-200% bonus to attack rating. Depending on if it succeeded check attack rating and determine if +25% attack rating mystic orbs are needed. For armors you will be adding -10% to enemy fire resistances to each piece being careful not to pass your necromancers current level or level 120. Our target with all gear is -100% enemy fire resistances.

For jewelry we can skip +fire % spell damage as it does not add to your Dragonfire oil's damage due to it being a passive skill and not a spell but the character screen will show otherwise. It has been proven that the stock character stat screen can show false damage output. For this reason and is not always accurate when calculating some damages.

Rings: Since we are at what I like to call our halfway point using full Achilio's Wake, your target here is 1 all skills with -15% enemy fire resist or better as we will need to reach -100% total. I like to include Unseelie Curse proc to eliminate ranged enemies attacks such as Necrobots Lazorgunz or even Supernova proc - You want to look cool while killing too, right? Very Happy Unique Rings can be used such as Xorine's Ring for 15% chance to cast level 9 Punisher on when you kill an enemy. These Punishers will benefit from the -50% enemy poison resistances given by the full set bonus. We should first orb your rings to get 15% chance to cast level 3 Thunder Hammer, Summon Bane Monster and then any other needed stats.

Amulet: Again we are going for max skill points which is now 5 with the new Blessed Oil of Luck recipe including 5% chance to cast level 44 Doom on kill and lets face it, this can be annoying to craft but every skill point counts towards everything. Again we can't go wrong with adding another 15% chance to cast level 3 Thunder Hammer But we must add bane monster for our long distance map clearing and finish our -100% enemy fire resistance making these priority #1.

Uberquest Tips

Death Projector: Summon your Void Archon, a few Shadows and your Rampagor army. Take the route leading to the Western (left) side of the Death Projector and stop before rounding the corner that will aggro the Uber. From here you can step a few meters around the corner to summon a Bane Monster with Rathmas Chosen to walk directly to the Death Projecter. This will keep the Mechanics on top of it making it vulnerable to your attacks. If you step around the corner into the right spot, you can shield yourself from the Death Projectors Death Spiral using the map. Once the first Death Spiral passes you need to step up further to remove the obstacle from between you and the Death Projector so that your Voodoo Shot will hit. Dodge any further spirals while spamming Voodoo Shot nearest to the Death Projector as possible. Once the Death Projector is dead your minions will no longer have something to target and will run around naturally. To hold the Mechanics still try using a totem with Rathmas Chosen and safely grab your charm.

Creature of Flame: Before entering summon your Void Archon, a few Shadows and your Rampagor army. Upon entering kill Horazons Familiar. Get the Astral Guardians to aggro onto you, as soon as you are hit you will be temporarily immune to the Creature of Flame's physical death touch. While immune you need to make it past the Creature of Flame and get a Bane Monster with Rathmas Chosen on top of him to distract his fire. If done properly, spam Voodoo Shot and pick up your charm.

Infernal Machine: Summon your Void Archon, a few Shadows and your Rampagor army. Use your 'leashless' Bane Monsters and spam Voodoo Shot to clear the level off screen. Be sure to keep stepping left and right to avoid the Infernal Machine's Deathstrike.

Rathma Square: Summon your Void Archon, all Shadows , all Lamias and your Rampagor army. Upon entering begin spamming Voodoo Shot. You will want to clear your way to the Northeast (top right) wall of the map while maintaining your Rampagor army. Continue Southeast (bottom right direction) until you reach and kill Primus. If you find yourself taking a lot of damage try using Bend the Shadows to keep your minions on top of you. Spirit Trance Herb has a 1/6 drop chance and the attack rating goes from 21-150%. You may want to spend some time farming a decent Spirit Trance Herb to save yourself some points into dexterity unless you already have a source of 'Ignore Target's Defense'.

Azmodan: Summon your Void Archon, all Shadows , all Lamias and your Rampagor army. Rathmas Chosen several Rampagors. This will leave us with our larger hitbox minions potentially staying alive much longer (unless poisoned) for easier targeting past the mobs inside. If you are using Hwanin's Hwacha you will be able to stun the level so that Azmodan is the only one left moving. You can then lure him out of the crowed and focus on landing your Voodoo Shots nearest to him for a easy kill. If in TU gear/lack a source of stun you can always lure Azmodan into any corner of the map allowing you to clear mobs from the opposite corner. Be careful as one or more of the mobs can block your ranged attacks for a brief duration. You may want to temporarily swap some Lum runes for Perfect Bloodstones for +Maximum Fire Resist to help with Azmodans Pentagram attack or maybe some Perfect Turquoise for +Maximum Poison Resist to help with Poison damage while kiting mobs.

Cathedral of Vanity:

Toraja: Bring a Arcane Crystal by itself inside your Horadric Cube to upgrade your Crystalline Flame Medallion. Summon all Edyrems, Void Archon, all Shadows , all Lamias and your Rampagor army. Rathmas Chosen buff a couple Shadows. Upon entering Lilith will be somewhere North (up) from the red portal. Fight your way to her using Edyrems to remove the mobs invulnerability while maintaining your Void Archon a few Shadows and your Rampagor Army. Once you reach and kill Lilith take a portal to town and transmute your Crystalline Flame Medallion with the Arcane Crystal in safety. Note: You only have 30 seconds after killing Lilith to upgrade your Crystalline Flame Medallion.

The Butcher: Rathmas Chosen 1 Rampagor and make a portal. Summon the Butcher and get him locked onto your Rampagor. Wait for a pentagram to appear then either Jitans Gate or summon a minion/Bend the Shadows slightly past it to lure him on top to cancel his immunities. Switch to Voodoo Shot and spam. Repeat until you get your charm. It may help to summon more then one Butcher to get more pentagrams to appear faster. Just make sure you keep re-buffing your Rampagor with Rathmas Chosen

The Binding of Baal: Summon your Void Archon, all Shadows , all Lamias and your Rampagor army. Rathmas Chosen a few Rampagors and make a portal. Summon Tal Rasha in the furthest South (bottom) corner of the map, step back and spam Voodoo Shot. Once all of Tal Rasha's minions are dead he will lose his invulnerability and die quickly.

Assault on Mount Arreat: Summon your Void Archon, all Shadows , all Lamias and your Rampagor army. Rathmas Chosen a few Rampagors and make a portal near the Ancients Way exit. Summon King Koth in the Northeast (top right) corner of the map, step back and spam Voodoo Shot while being careful not to die to his towers. You may want to consider finishing this fight offscreen using a Bane Monster and Rathmas Chosen.

Akarat: Summon your Void Archon, all Shadows , all Lamias and your Rampagor army. Consider using a totem with Rathmas Chosen to hold Akarat and his minions in one place. If not using totems using Rathmas Chosen on a few Rampagors can work too. Make a portal near Rathma Square. Place your minions and/or totems just at the bottom of the stairs to the entrance of Black Road. Summon Akarat ontop of your minions/totems, step back and spam Voodoo Shot.

Legacy of Blood: Summon your Void Archon, all Shadows , all Lamias and your Rampagor army. Make a portal just at the entrance to the Forgotten Tower. Go inside and Rathmas Chosen a few Rampagors. Summon Bartuc in the Northwest (top left) corner of the map, step back and spam Voodoo Shot. Keep strafing up and down while spamming Voodoo Shot. This will prevent you from taking all the damage from the skill the golems cast under you when they die. Perfect Bloodstones for +Maximum Fire Resistance can help if you are strafing but still taking too much damage.

Lord Aldric Jitan: Summon your Void Archon, all Shadows , all Lamias and your Rampagor army. Place a Bane Monster near the Halls of Vaught entrance and Rathmas Chosen it. Summon Lord Aldric Jitan ontop of your Bane Monster, step back to the doorway and spam Voodoo Shot.

Judgement Day: Respec and put 1 point into Frostclaw Totem. Cast sacrifice a few times in the West (left) corner of the map against the wall to your left just across from the corner of the map and stack your Frostclaw Totems against the wall. Your setup should look like this - click here. Rathmas Chosen your totem and summon Dark Uldyssian ontop. Step back near your portal and begin spamming Voodoo Shot. Periodically buff your totem with Rathmas Chosen and watch its health. The angels are still able to damage your totem so it may be necessary to summon another with Rathmas Chosen buff to fall back on after it begins taking damage. Watch out for nukes - if you hear "nuclear launch detected" step back until it is over then continue killing. You will want to grab the first charm that drops incase you die you will not be losing the buff needed for upgrading and can simply make a new game. Put the Crystalline Flame Medallion inside your empty Horadric Cube. Once you have killed both Malthael and Imperius within 30 seconds of eachother, enter your portal and transmute the Crystalline Flame Medallion in safety.

Just a quick typo correction, in the gear selection you mention Tartarus RW using a Jah rune, Pic shows a Yul Rune, Jah is Aether RW.

Nice!
I think Death Ward is still a better choice, RC is for Toraja and some cheesing.
You should also mention Vizharan Wand and Trollskull Preserved Head on switch.
And end-game Voodoo Shot becomes 1-point wonder.

Nice stuff!

I'm pretty sure that on this:
t6 Dragontail (plated belt)

the proc won't activate because on attack procs are all actually on melee attack. Just a little thing to note, belt is still nice

Avoid is useful if you cannot avoid barrels and need a 1/4 chance to survive. I personally find a minion that is invulnerable to all but poison to be of more use as being a ranged class with high health you shouldn't be worried about getting hit. You're right I should add in some buff options and will do so at the same time I add gameplay tips etc. Voodoo shot is a 1 point wonder...I guess, but what is important enough to give up half of your arrows (damage) per shot? Currently I have 27 points put into Voodoo Shot and have 51 arrows total with gear. There is nothing else that can be more beneficial than those 27 extra arrows per shot.

With our TU gear options I stacked as much extra fire damage as possible. I did this to boost our fire damage output while our Dragonfire Oil is not as strong as it will be with end game gear/charms. This helps us kill much quicker utilizing our -100% enemy fire resist. Try using the unique versions of the t6 splint mail, tiara and plated belt to see just how much extra fire damage you can rack up. The t6 plated belt is my favorite option because of the high fire damage with the faster run/walk we get from both it and our t6 chain gloves helps us kite maps easily. These options go great with the t6 heavy boots which lack faster run/walk.

It's completely craftable and still powerful even with the tier unique options I have provided. Definitely worth trying again :) . I will see what I can do about more videos.

You're right when saying Edyrems are no longer targetable. It's disappointing but it didn't stop me from putting Bane Monsters from the vendors in their place. I use these leashless summons to kill mobs from multiple screens away.

That wall of text :D But all in all it's good guide. It just require some polishing (some screens, fonts, ect.) and you have to do uber section asap.
