Btw, the next time you have an error, additional info could be useful in order to identify the issue you are having ;)

Such as:

When does it crash: Is it random, or when you click something specific, like "Multiplayer"?
What happens when it crashes: Instant crash to desktop, error code, or other?
Having that error code makes it easier to find a fix.

Also remember to read the "Read Me" file that is downloaded with the mod.

3rd time I've reinstalled from scratch, and then simply put the mod files into the d2 folder (which I installed to program files (x86) this error happens.

Make sure u do the DEP

Add Diablo II to Windows DEP as an exception:
Open Explorer, right-click Computer, Advanced System Settings, Advanced tab, Settings in Performance section, Data Execution Prevention tab.
Choose Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select, Add, find Diablo II.exe and Game.exe, add them both and Apply after each.
Restart your pc.

You downloaded d2 off of battle.net right?

Reinstall d2 outside of the program files folders, then get our launcher and it will do the rest.

MXL.dll not loaded. If you followed my advice and are running game through launcher this can only mean some sort of overzealous 3rd party AV is blocking it. If not then you installed the game wrong.

"TROUBLESHOOTING ERROR #2239
The core was not loaded:
- Make sure dll files are in Diablo II folder and not blocked by windows/antivirus (right click -> properties -> unblock).
- If using PlugY or D2SE, make sure PlugY.ini has this set DllToLoad=MXL.dll
- Run the game as administrator"
Also, even if you are playing on server, always enable plugy if you use D2SE.
