Update: I am an idiot and didn't realize I had to actually cast Snake Stance, I was just leaving it on my mouse button and thought that would activate it. My damage jumped enormously and things are smooth now. That also means I wasn't casting a stance when I was a summon barb either lol.

If you want to minmax, you should probably roll ilvl 1 zomg crafted boots with fascinating shrines (since you use path of flames, and that's probably one of your strongest passive spell damage sources, so more pierce is better). look for something like 80% ED, 8 fire spell, 8 fire pierce, and level...
