What is the best way to farm for shines if Fautz is too hard for this spec? Farm some melee gear and do it that way?

Do you need to worry about the tooltip DPS of totems when crafting gear. For example I crafted a +3 skills circlet with +fire damage but no -res which lowered the tooltip DPS of totems by a bit compared to my MOed helmet. Edit.
