Kusuriya no Hirogoto.

Again, another 24 eps anime that i thought i would drop after 5 eps or less. Nope. Big good. Yuge. Not as memorable as Frieren was for me but its still pretty good.

Im about to start Solo Leveling right now. After Frieren and Kusuriya, will this be a 3 for 3 amazing anime series from one a single quarterly season in a row record for me? Probably. I just dont want to jynx it.

Solo leveling.

Had a lot of potential to be great. The fight scenes are very good though so if that's all you care about you're gonna love it. The voice actor for the main character, also top notch. Up there with Grimgar's main character. The story is kinda garbo. Plus I don't think 12 eps were enough for a season 1 of this anime. If you want to get into the nitty gritty about a lot of the plot holes of the anime you're forced to read the manwha. That's pretty much my only gripe with the anime : it assumes you have been reading the manwha to understand a lot of what's going on.

The anime ends really abruptly, it's pretty jarring.

IT SHOULDVE BEEN ME! *slam on desk*

After his high school graduation, Yuuki Wakura realizes it has been five years since his sister's disappearance during a "Mato disaster." Throughout Japan, mysterious entrances have opened to a dimension called "Mato"—a demonic metropolis filled with disastrous monsters known as the "Shuuki" that threaten the safety of humans. However, a new hope arose, as the discovery of a Mato fruit that grants supernatural abilities exclusively to women allowed them to fight against the Shuuki. Due to this, a new matriarchal government was formed, establishing a female organization called the Anti-Demon Corps, which caused men to fall to the bottom of society.

When Yuuki suddenly finds himself in Mato, he is unable to escape on his own. But just as he anticipates a gruesome end by the Shuuki, a girl in a militia outfit appears and protects him. As the chief of the Seventh Unit of the Anti-Demon Corps, Kyouka Uzen is ambitious yet devalued by her own peers due to her power being deemed unusual. Now in a life-or-death situation, Kyouka takes the opportunity to find out the true potential of her superpower by using Yuuki: in order to defeat the Shuuki, he has to become her slave.

I havent been able to binge any anime for last couple of months because of the game i was playing. None of them allow me to half-peek at the anime since it required focus & concentration. So i randomly stumbled on this anime and somehow managed to binge in 24 hours.

I will be honest that I came in blind and the first episode is kinda interesting. Then i read the comment on the video that this will be similar other harem ecchi action anime with many cute girls, so im kinda can expect how the anime will turn out. First thing i noticed is the vibrant colour and how well anime are animated. Considering how bored / depressed i was when grinding my current game, the ecchi / sexy fun brought the joy to me albeit i appreciated it wasnt excessive.

Also, i will considered that this anime is not for everyone. If you know negativity with many harem anime, adding action and trashy sexy stuff to part it will make less appealing for more people. While the first episode is kinda interesting premise, the anime failed to explain much about whole premise other than they have this weird dormitory in middle of demonic world where the military girls live in. While the combat have interesting usage, especially the tournament (why you have tournament in middle of dangerous place??), it is mostly 1 dimensional.

If you see the score on MAL, it is kinda low. For me, at least it is above average for ecchi action anime. If you hunger for lust, then this fun series could bring you some joy.

Classroom of the Elite - S1 S2 and S3

Big good. Not the best anime ever but very entertaining. Not a lot of overbearing comedy, not a lot of overbearing slice of life, though the mandatory "beach/pool" and "christmas" episodes are still a thing.

Main character is a gigachad. Always a plus on my book. The villains were also pretty good, especially the "cutesy" chick. Very hateable, but in the good sense.

Grimm Variations.

This is an anthology of ONAs, a Netflix one even. As the name suggests it's a bunch of brothers Grimm fairy tales (6 of them) but with twists, for instance one are set in showa era in japan, another in far future'esque cyberpunk setting, another in a post apocalyptic setting, you get it. Also the fairytale itself is but a suggestion, there's the baseline of it but the stories are wildly different from their original counterpart, hence "variations".

OK enough about all of that, what did I think of it? The tldr of it is, I loved it. It's sitting as of typing all this on a 6.9 (nice) on MAL, and I honestly believe it deserves an 8/10. There's happy endings, sad endings, sometimes horrendous gory endings... Something for everyone really. "The elves and the shoemaker" hit pretty hard especially if the viewer is a creative type such a myself so that one is pretty memorable on me.

Yeah its a fantastic anthology. I def recommend it if you're not the kind of person that goes only for fan service or shounen and want something more mature.

I purposely avoided watching Shingeki no Kyojin for what seems like a handful of years now, i remember taking one look at the premise and instantly guessing that this would be a 4 or 5 seasons anime. Turns out, i was right.

Started to binge watch it last week and just now finished with part 2 of S4. I have watched the ONAs in their chronological order as i was going through the seasons. Hell i've even watched the High School spinoff of the anime. What are my thoughts ?

It is very good. I enjoyed it quite a lot, which is something i didnt think i would because the premise seemed pretty meh to me at first. High stakes everywhere. There were more edge-of-your-seat moments than there were filler (there were still a lot of filler though, its one of its flaws) ; all and all i'm so glad i waited all this time until the anime was done because the payoff was superb. There were hardly any characters that were 1 dimensional (again, with a few exceptions.... ) , and Eren not being the mary sue everyone thought he'd be is a nice touch. Hell, for a protagonist he gets surprisingly villanous at some points.... All good on my book.

With that said, the anime is not without its flaws. Even though the plot is explained throughout if you pay close attention to detail and watch the ONAs in the right order, its still very convoluted and confusing for someone just wanting gore and fight scenes. And btw, even though there is blood and "gore" its nothing like the manga. The manga is incredibly more gory than the anime. Some characters are downright obnoxious (the "meat" girl for example) ; some throwaway characters end up becoming more interesting than a bunch of the main ones (Jean and Conny for instance, i liked their character development a lot more than Mikasa. Mikasa just seemed too cookie cutter to me, even though theres ONA 5 i believe it is where she gets a bit more interesting but not enough ) . Levi and Erwin are pretty cool. They easily carried seasons 2 and 3.

It is a very good anime overall. Is it the anime of the decade though? I guess it depends on what you like. Personally i prefered Sousou no Frieren, but if you consider Shingeki no Kyojin better than it then i would completely understand your point of view, because this anime is absolutely fantastic and a great watch.

The ending was kinda bullshit though but i can deal with that.

Super slow burn with random burst of flames - the anime.
Image

During their decade-long quest to defeat the Demon King, the members of the hero's party—Himmel himself, the priest Heiter, the dwarf warrior Eisen, and the elven mage Frieren—forge bonds through adventures and battles, creating unforgettable precious memories for most of them.

However, the time that Frieren spends with her comrades is equivalent to merely a fraction of her life, which has lasted over a thousand years. When the party disbands after their victory, Frieren casually returns to her "usual" routine of collecting spells across the continent. Due to her different sense of time, she seemingly holds no strong feelings toward the experiences she went through.

As the years pass, Frieren gradually realizes how her days in the hero's party truly impacted her. Witnessing the deaths of two of her former companions, Frieren begins to regret having taken their presence for granted; she vows to better understand humans and create real personal connections. Although the story of that once memorable journey has long ended, a new tale is about to begin.

You guys probably know by now that this anime topple FMA:B from top of MAL top anime list. Thus I watch this anime with super high expectation. It doesnt mean I will critique everything, but I will see solely if it managed to hold my attention or joy when watching every episodes.

Lets just say that you really need to appreciate how well directed every episodes are. If you pay attention to details, you notice that every episodes will try evoke feeling, especially when the protagonist trying to remember memory of her previous adventure with hero party. Combined with adventures in every episodes, it interweaved nicely with world building as well as background stories for majority of the characters. While the story can feel very slow, it will give you treat with random well animated fighting scenes once a while.

I think I have set expectation abit too much to expect it to be something new or unique, instead the series are mostly about consistently staying high production quality. Though, personally I feel there arent much episodes yet for first season combined with slow pacing to be among the top. At least I didnt get emotional payoff that I feel from watching other tight shorter anime. Plot wise, seem the anime did some tone shift for last 1/3 of season to be more action oriented that can felt jarring excessive.

Not doubt among the top produced anime, but definitely not my favourite for this genre type. 28 episodes could be easily wrapped to a proper epic story, but this anime is just barely starting up.

Why cant we have good action ecchi anime?
Image

Ayakashi are strange, supernatural creatures invisible to the majority of people. Though most are harmless, some ayakashi attack humans to devour their life force. Exorcist ninjas are tasked with protecting people from these spiteful spirits.

Matsuri Kazamaki is a young exorcist ninja born to a prestigious clan. His childhood friend, Suzu Kanade, is an ayakashi medium—an individual with immense vitality that attracts ayakashi. Matsuri deems all ayakashi threatening and wishes to keep Suzu as far from them as possible, but this clashes with her desire to remain close to them. One day, the pair encounters Shirogane, the "King of Ayakashi," who is hellbent on consuming Suzu. As she is about to be eaten, Matsuri comes to the rescue and manages to seal the ayakashi's powers—but not before Shirogane takes revenge by turning him into a girl!

Until he finds a way to transform back, Matsuri must adjust to his new, peculiar lifestyle while fighting against hostile ayakashi. Moreover, Suzu is now conflicted about her feelings toward Matsuri—further plunging their relationship into a state of ambiguity.

Lets just say I was kinda put high expectation from this series. Mainly because it was created by to-love-ru series author so I kinda expect the usual ecchi tag. Combine with potential action and genderbender, surely it will be easy win?

Series started with usually protector & childhood friend, which lead to destined encounter with king of ayakashi that just want to devour his friend because of her amazing hidden energy. After the genderswap, the stories continue with usual "tackle one ayakashi encounter" in every episodes, while throwing in new characters with their own quirks. The king of ayakashi somehow turned into annoying cat mascot that followed the protagonist duo. Once a while, there is couple of nice action scenes, but albeit quite short.

The series sadly didnt offer anything new. The ecchi fan service isnt that interesting nor the action side of the series. There are couple of mundane school life episodes, but it doesnt bring the usual warm feeling either. In the end, the series just arent strong in any aspect. No romance, no comedy, not much action, not much good feeling. I would say the animation is quite good, but is still average with not much "money shots". At the end, the series have nothing to write home about.

Again, I set expectation abit too high for typical average ecchi action anime. Even among of similar genres, it is bottom of the barrel tier. Below average (usually ecchi show get super low MAL score) even for my standard.

State of mind affect one enjoyment of media
Image
Gesicht, an android police detective of Europol, is tasked with finding the murderer of Montblanc, a retired war hero robot. Although it appears that only a robot could have committed this crime, the murder of a renowned robot rights activist casts doubts on the criminal's identity. Indeed, outside of an isolated and unexplained incident that occurred eight years ago, robots are programmed to be unable to kill human beings. However, the lack of human evidence on the crime scene and the similarity of modus operandi lead Gesicht to suspect that the two murderers might be the same being—be they man or robot.

Shortly after Montblanc's passing, another retired elite war robot is mysteriously eliminated. Gesicht notices a pattern in the choice of murder victim: both dead robots belonged to a group of the seven most powerful war machines ever designed. Determined to stop the murderer from eliminating the five remaining veterans, Gesicht seeks help from Atom, a cutting-edge android who resembles a human boy. The duo must now hunt down the rogue killer before the series of murders is carried on, lest the very fabric of society suffer irremediable damage.

Again, I go watch a series based on high praised I heard from other people. Except I really need to watch anime only when Im certain mood. You probably know Im super bored and it affect my enjoyment alot.

Describing many stuffs about the series will spoil many of the plot of the series, but lets just understand that this anime was based on manga made in early 2000s, which is a spin-off from Astro Boy that was came from manga back in 1950s. So it have the concept of something like robot trying to live like human which like having human rights, ability to have family and emotion. The series tackled several characters stories, which all have unique background tied to large event that happened in the past.

Lets just say the anime is very good production or story wise, but Im just not in right mind to able enjoy the series. I just found myself get bored with how slow the story telling compared to modern medias. Any story that doesnt revolved the detectives felt like unnecessary side stories despite it have own emotional beats. Throughout 8 episodes, it feel like majority of them are just character mumbling random jargons about sci-fi stuff that you probably doesnt even need to know.

Murder mysteries felt weak, sci-fi felt outdated, emotional stuff didnt hit me. I know it was a good series, but just not for me atm. Thus I rarely probably lower than I should. I just bored.
