Kept you guys waiting huh?I DID IT! The long lasting goals that I set myself for last couple of months finally happened. As you all know, Im a casual path of exile player, despite I tend to play long hours, i still couldnt managed to reach endgame stuff most of the times, until now. So here I want to share the picture of previous 5-ish years of me playing PoE result.
IntroductionIf you werent aware, GGG introduce 2 different full body skins depending on your progress. You could get full set at 24 challenges, together with a set of wings. However, they also implement challenges that is so top heavy, alienating many casual player. So why did I choose to complete 40/40 in one of the hardest challenges league ever?
I want to tell you a very long story, I will tell it via 3 main chapters which kinda telling the story phase I have with the game.
Chapter 1 : My stubborness self► Show Spoiler
If you know me by reading many of my previous review, you know that I always a person who tried to chase for some sort of completion of said game. Either finish good story single player game, completing all map objectives in open games and maybe, completing 100% achievements if I know I can obtain it. But when come to ARPG games, I rarely push toward the end, mostly because I hate doing same stuff over and over again without a way to judge it or relying on
So for this PoE league, I have change my rule a bit. I will play trade league, together with guildmates, but I wont sell any item. I buy stuff using my self found currency. I feel happy whenever I saw exalted orb drop on the floor. My guild leader which invite me to play PoE, because he said that this would be the best league for SSF. And he was right, with ability to block specific league content, I could focus specific part of atlas tree while tackling individual challenges. I also set myself to NOT buy any service, but Im ok with buying stuff like map fragments or specific item required for the challenges
I continue playing, unoptimizedly. I made various sentinel which required for the challenges, then I shared with my guild mates. I even bought quad stash tab for the guild, in hope that would be some kind person who will donate / give stuff away for others. Well, not exactly like I wanted. People dont even put stuff like leveling unique nor they shared important stuff like i did. No more masters ROTA like in the old days, guildmates are just group of people who chatting together while they are still playing the games.
So I just set myself to do 24 challenges in 1st month, and I FAILED badly. I did managed to do some RNG / grindy early games challenges. I even managed to get Tier 4 seed boss for harvest challenge, which is super duper rare. I kinda frustrated because despite I able to kill all endgame boss easily (power of skele mage necro), it still feel something missing. I wanted to play a zoom zoom build.
And my wish was granted when I got my FIRST MAGEBLOOD from gwennen
Chapter 2 : Breaking the barrier► Show Spoiler
Oh, i forgot to mention, that this league also I set couple of goals like playing multiple builds in a league since I always stuck playing 1 character toward the end. So I wanted to play ascendancy for witch, ranger, as well as marauder making them perfect 3 colours of PoE. Sadly, people said melee & marauder not exactly in good spot (berserker maybe ok) especially uber bosses are super tough.
So I start with ranger, with goal in mind to play raider. I could go deadeye as I seen many playing tornado shots, but I think I choose raider because at least it is seem more easier to gear her up. Additionally I threw my mageblood on her and quickly rush through campaign again. Easily kill all bosses in the beginning with all my stockpiled unique for leveling.
Only to get steamrolled in maps. Turned out that you need rare, a good rare at least. All those basic life, resist, spell suppression etc. So I have to face my biggest fear since played PoE.... SELLING & BUYING GEARS with other people.UGH. Thankfully with many tools from the third party, it is now much easier to find gear I need. I also find a joy of getting better & stronger, merely by buying new gears especially after 1 month in where basic rare are much cheaper to get.
I also decided that I need to grind alot of currency to my big item, crystalized omniscience. I farmed day and night, unoptimizedly since I still stubborn want to do my way. And when I finally got it, I felt... weaker. Was it all mistake? Did i spent all hours farming currency for terrible upgrade? Turned out that I need EVEN MORE currency to fix all my rares to reach the minimum requirement for the build to get good.
Chapter 3 : Toward the End► Show Spoiler
One of the factor or limitation I have is that I also stubbornly refuse to use another discord server, the forbidden trove. It is famous server where you can bulk purchase / sell item as well as buying service like aisling slam or harvest crat. Mostly because I already got overwhelmed knowledge nuclear bomb I got, I cant push myself for another server. How would I get more currency then?
Of course by
GETTING SUPER LUCKY
Here is the my networth on my characters. Graph go up when I put item in my stash, it will go down when I put my gears on my characters. So I was lucky this time around. I got 4 mageblood all from different sources as well as 3 ashes of the star during my 100 uber boss grind. I wouldnt need to worry about learning to craft my gears nor be optimize about my spend since I just
PAY-TO-WIN-BABY-~~So here the challenges, my biggest barriers in this league is definitely the uber bosses itself. I was deciding if I wanted to create my dedicated boss killer in the final month, since I have playing each character I have, one month each. Then after some thinking, I wouldnt want to go back to campaign as I hate it so I settled to finish all challenges with my two characters i have. Skele mage necro for bossing, while raider for any fast clearing challenges.
Thus the beginning game of problem solving as each bosses have its requirement, specifically I played around with flask setup since mageblood allow to get tremendous boost for boss fight. Everytime I failed a fight, I will just upgrade my gears from the market. It wasnt easy and you have no idea how many time I raged solely of the small mistake I made along the way
Other than that, most of the challenges in current poe league is also quite grindy, which isnt a big problem for me since I dont mind spend long hours to play this time around
ConclusionMy time playing PoE probably would be one of the memorable time I have in my life. At least, it is most craziest grind that I set I wanted to do albeit in my own way. It thought me alot from reading the economy, learning to price your gears, learn to bulk purchase and sell, learning how to gearing up or maybe simply how to have fun in ARPG games.
I dont think I could simply do this again in next league since I feel pretty burned out so probably I will do 1 year rotation as usual or maybe I wait until PoE 2 come out. I also mentioned I might put what I learnt here as suggestion for medianxl realm, but so I will see you guys there
If you read until here, I will like to thank you for taking your time reading this.
The end.
