Do the devs know the cause? It all seems to come from the stash for some reason. I am very interested in the technical details, out of curiosity.

Precisely. Eastern side of the map.

i think i managed to replicate the thing with items disappearing in SP

methodology:
1- make a runeword (i made an Eld runeword dagger)
2- save and exit
3- enter in the same character
4- press w once or twice to change hands
5- attempt to access shared storage
6- crash
7- oh no its gone!

I've had three different characters now lose their equipped left and right hand items. I finally captured the exact logs before and after.
I've also noticed that the characters animations are all wonky when they lose their items like this, but maybe I'm just misremembering.

log #1: normal instance https://pastebin.com/QzZUXDXb
log #2: after this instance closed my items disappeared so I think this holds the cause https://pastebin.com/UNYxuq4b
log #3: I noticed my items were missing https://pastebin.com/S69Z4HM4

I hope this helps

Joining (not hosting; host in this case reported no issues on their end and I did not see any issues when I hosted a while ago) a game in TCP/IP seems be consistently causing crashes, stash loss and other weird behavior for me.
Steps:
- everything fine in singleplayer
- join TCP/IP, personal stash missing, viewing shared stash crashed with an access violation (I believe I did this a couple of times to make sure it wasn't a one-time occurrence)
- enter singleplayer, everything fine (it didn't save)
- join TCP/IP, save and exit without viewing personal stash
- enter singleplayer, personal stash completely empty, shared stash and character equipment/inventory both normal

I reloaded from a backup a couple of times and was happening every time, across multiple characters.

Should be somewhere near the end of this log file, as this is the only one with an edit date since the incident.

Addendum: Viewing my shared stash in TCP/IP a third time, instead of crashing, showed me the host's shared stash contents (was able to verify by asking them; taking their stuff out didn't affect what was in there on their end), instead of crashing.
Second log from after this occurred:

I started this post to give logs as requested from latest update because I could reproduce my issue. All stash items disappeared after game close and then re-open - I just threw four potions in empty stash for this - using always tcp/ip host option. Pastebin https://pastebin.com/z6CcYPVu. I then decided to do some testing regarding playing tcp/ip host vs single player.

So I logged into single player and stored some potions in stash. Close game, re-open SP, items are there. Open game log into tcp/ip host. Items are there.
I log into game tcp/ip host and add some more potions to stash. Close game, re-open tcp/ip host, all items there. Pastebin after other tests https://pastebin.com/f0Qv7VF4
Just an added data point. As of now I haven't recreated the stash loss again after logging the character into SP the first time. Prior to this it happened twice and I just wasn't using stash for fear. My usual was tcp/ip host for possible muling as I did not realise the separation between this multiplayer option and the sin wars option (oops).
