I sense a misunderstanding on the word "open" as in "actually visible on the screen by pressing tab" and open as in "completely revealed without the need for exploration".

I don't know what whist's and Marco's decision on this is, but I agree that having the map revealed should be an option and not forced, if such a feature were to exist.

Somehow I seem to remember discussions on having Deckard be able to sell maps to the player for a fee, but I don't know if it was something that was taken in serious consideration or not (I could also be hallucinating and be imagining such a discussion)

Yeah, I can understand wanting to have the minimap gradually fill itself as you explore the map, as it does without map hack enabled. I don't think kamird is saying "I don't like to use the minimap at all", so saying "just don't open the minimap" isn't a solution.

If possible I think there ought to be an option in a .ini file that disables the map hack if users want to do so.

There will not be any kind of configuration file. All user configuration will be done within an in-game GUI. Modifying config files is too complicated for so many players (you know those who don't what's that mysterious Diablo II directory you always tell them to open). Besides config files for games settings are a little too much last decade.

That's actually the better option. :D
I just wasn't sure if it was possible.

Maphack has some very useful shortcuts, such as right click to move an item between left and right(maybe backpack to stash or cube).
Besides, maphack has more powerful item filter, just like showing scared unique, always showing item without pushing alt etc.
Do you have these plan to add more useful feature to sigma, so that I can throw out illegal maphack.
Sorry for my poor english.

Both of those things have been proposed, discussed and, AFAIK, accepted.
I think whist implemented, or at least had in mind to do so, item filters even before any forum proposal.

Just openly admitted to using illegal maphacks...? Smart.

He didn't specify whether he was using TSW or SP.

Though its under high suspicion that it is TSW he's refering to
