U need Great Runes for Gematria, not the Elemental ones.
You can use both Elemental Runes and Great Runes. Elemental Runes only give 70% of the effects though.
Elemental runes won't activate the bonus though :S
??? Elemental Runes work just fine for me....

that I had in my Stash, put 4 Earth Runes in it and it didn't work. I had 2 Great Runes from Fauzt farming and put those in and still no dice. Gematria has it listed though that Elemental Runes give 70% of the Gematria effect while Great Runes give all of it. So it seems to be a bug.
