Howdy,

I am 99.99% certain that I am not the only one that experiences an extremely skewed drop rate on certain SU and Set items. It is mentally draining and hinders the fun of grinding when you see the exact same drops from game to game to game. I am not asking for an increase in SSU drops, but just some diversity in what actually drops.

In one game, that the room was open for about an hour, I had the following repeat drops.
- 4x Tower Rush
- 3x Lacerators
- 3x Red Vex Curse
- 3x Tracker's Knife
- 3x Hangman's
- 2x Snowstorm
- 2x Ring's of Truth

Imagine how nice it would have been if 13 of those drops would have just be somethings different and unique.

sadly , the crappy ones have a much higher chance to drop than those which are really worth something . that way you can just sig a lot of crap before you find something useful and so you sink a lot of hours into the game for farming the stuff you actually need . i believe it's all intended and i don't think it will change in the near future

Common bases are more common than rare bases.
SUs are more common than SSUs.

Therefore, common SUs are more common than SSUs or rare SUs.

Drop chances from one item to the next are different.

Some uniques are weighted to drop more often than the others (within same item base). The exact ratios are salvageable from d2 files. I remember looting well over 20x

Well wasn't it always the case with Median, and diablo in fact. It has thousands of items but only some of them actually get used. These are the ones that are TOO good and tend to get nerfed after that. In Laz's version Jitan's Kamon was by far the best armor you can get, bar only some SUs and high end RW's. This version of median had SSU Bone Shield, i mean come on, how this even went through beta testing.

At least Sigma made some advances in buffing those completely unusable items, mostly low base TU's. TU Club is actually useful item now, as it has high IAS and 30% all stats. Unholy melee does have niche use for this item, before those changes it was rather useless for just about any class.

But it is something you just can't fix. Every game suffers from this. You either have a buttload of legendary quality drops (Diablo-style) and most of them are shard material, or you have low number of legendaries but they are actually useful (POE style, where a simple tabula rasa dropping at level 10 is a half decent item carrying well into endgame content)

Collector and spirit walkers are perfect examples of how to not design an item.

One thing to point out is removal of many SU in sigma.
It left many bases without SU version. Among these, there are more low bases than higher ones(a bit at least).
As far as I know, if base rolls as SU but such an item doesn't exist, it will drop set instead.
Long story short, removed common-drop SUs are dropping as sets today :D

Correct me if I'm wrong, can't remember whole d2 well.

Items that have a lower quality have higher chance of dropping ( Quilted armor vs Sacred Armor) in any area. Only exception to that is the old Duncraig as far as I’m aware of. Key here is simply how many mobs you kill.

As for rings and ammy, all unique drops have their own ratio to spawn when a unique item is generated. Rings of Rings of truth are way more common than Bad Mood Ring for this reason.
