I guess that depends on the specific PC, for me all modes work equally well, but some players might have more succes with specific modes.

On one of my computers glide lags a bit sometimes.

I have performance issues with d3d and lose the cool lighting effects with ddraw. With glide I get the best of both worlds - the visuals and the performance.
Also, there is no point in doing Ureh or Astro on Hatred, so don't "come back 90 levels later", just skip them
these are high-end uberquests so just wait until you have a strong character with good gear and a better understanding of this mod and try them on Destruction(unless you want to practice first, then doing them on hatred is probably fine).

If you've just started playing, read through the documentation (especially the uberlevels/heroic levels/level quests). There are a couple level challenges (level 50 and 90) that grant you charms that you will need at the endgame.
As for the performance issue in Win10, I experienced it to and it was my glide settings. If you use it, make sure you do the query - it checks what your card is capable of handling properly and will disable/remove options that won't work. That fixed my performance issues with it.
