is the new staff. Both melee sorc (at the cost of block) can use it but it's pretty good for HMP also. Since it's SU, shouldn't be too expensive and hence bridges the midgame needs a bit.

Thanks a ton for this guide. It’s so detailed I’ll be referencing it even when I’m not playing melee sorc. Must’ve taken you ages to put together. Great work!

Thanks. It’s a huge pain in the ass to maintain.

Tbh, I’m surprised anyone actually reads this unwieldy behemoth.

Since I’m here, guess I’ll add some quick notes for anyone interested.

AG+QC+Bladestorm range increase have altered Melee Sorc playstyle in a pretty big way, and I’m coining the phrase “point-blank Ranger” for it. You can still hold RMB and facetank if you want, but that’s boring.

Melee Sorc is still a solid Tier 2 build. You can comfortably do all 120 quests with just TUs+RW/Honorific weapon, but you’ll need the Set for 125+ content (you can survive the 125s with TUs, but without better gear, you just don’t have the DPS to complete them before you get overwhelmed).

The 2.4 guide update (which will be posted...eventually) will have significant changes to Early+Mid Game walkthroughs (e.g. no more AC farming; no more holding Attribute Points), as well as some gear+MO tweaks to suit the new playstyle.

Idk wtf to use for End Game Phys yet, gear or spec, because I only played for about a week last patch before the grindfest and lockout timers killed my interest in this game. Feel free to offer suggestions because I’m lazy and retarded.

Lastly, guide will still probably stop at Scosglen. I know people only care about Labs (and I actually do have write-ups for Labs 1-6), but there’s no room in the guide for more stuff because character limits and idk what brevity is. Plus, I just don’t have the time or patience to grind for all the shit I need to scale that End Game paywall.

The Snake Pit

End game physical is slow and I've been meaning to do a write up on that for some time as well.

The build just lacks a clear identity. It's good at surviving, but there is a limited amount of things you can do in return. Right now it feels like an amalgamation of various knock offs of other characters.

If you want the build to be the Swiss army knife of melee characters then the player needs to be given the reins to do so. However, all skills of this build take control away from the player:
Bladestorm is unreliable at best as a crowd clearing attack. It takes its sweet time selecting its targets and by the time it locks on to something any other decent skill would have taken out the pack already.
Fusillade is still massively susceptible to being body blocked by secondary targets.
Still don't know why Fatal Focus is there since you will be doing yourself a disservice outside of a handful of fights.
Not to mention we are still locked into using Crystal Swords / Warp Blades. The new changes to staff will be addressed later.

On top of that the itemization is lacking. The set is decent, though it should still be updated with the new skills.

is massively expensive for basically a well rolled crafted sword. It frees up some space with the combat speeds it provides. Yet there is no good place to use the extra budget. I guess you can use more UMO, but that is once again expensive. The added magic damage is fancy I guess.

Fatal Focus I still don't understand why it's there. It takes block chance away from a Dexterity character with the expectation that this drawback be neutralized with the constant deployment of Fusillade or a speicla weapon. All of that in exchange for extra damage. With all that hassle you are better off playing an assassin. I guess the new changes to staves and

is supposed to help with that? However the base damage of staves are simply way too low.

For context, a two handed War Staff does 63-69 damage, compared to 79-81 damage of Great Sword and 83-101 damage of Giant Axe. Not to mention our own Warp Blade already does 49-86 damage, attacks 1 frame faster, and can roll up to +250 max damage when crafting. The dexterity bonus of staves is moot since that part of the damage equation is taken care of by Mooncall and Baneblade already.

My proposed changes, assuming skills don't get reworked, would be
Massively increase the projectile speed of Bladestorm. That way even if it takes some time to acquire a target, it will still land quickly.
Knives from Fusillade pierces enemies. So stray enemies can no longer body block damage that was meant for the boss after its 10th teleport when struck.
Mooncall just make it 25 / 30 seconds base line. You will want to max it anyway. Having its duration be tied to base level while having to cast it is just annoying

If skill reworks are on the table, then replace Fusillade with an improved version of Jab / Zeal from clod. If you want a character that relies on specific damage windows there is assassin. A jab type attack emphasizes the build's maneuverability and rewards player's ability to position correctly on the battlefield. Each hit grants Premonition for up to y seconds. You can also say it ties to sorceress' focus on using simple tools masterfully rather cumbersome weapons.

The set should get looked at as well

Mirage is better than a well-rolled craft by about 10,000 flat magic damage lol

Interesting ideas otherwise, but that's a lot more than just "fancy I guess"
