also at what point do you transition from set to late game? i have steel punisher but i feel it's not worth it alone to remove the full set bonus.
Equip him with
Truce
in a Sacred Plated Belt (or highest defense Sacred belt you can find). Orb with TCD. Took mine through IotSS, TA, and D-Cows again just to see (TU gear with Truce). No problems in IotSS or D-Cows. Priestesses killed him in TA, but that was expected.Truce

I think Barb being so op for so long has warped people’s perception on what mercs are/should be. Mercs aren’t supposed to be invincible. You have to watch out for them and pull them back when they wander off (mercs are dumb and their HR is terrible. They can easily get hit-locked to death if they get separated). But if Fighter-Mage isn’t working out for you, just switch to A5 merc like everyone else.
Regarding gear, it's recommended you use at least the cheapest options in the Alt End-Game setup before starting End-Game.
And remember, the pieces in each gear list are meant to work as sets. Since pieces often play off each other, I don’t recommend mixing pieces from different gearsets until late End-Game when you’re strong enough to experiment. Don’t swap out current gear until you have all pieces to the next gearset.

Whatever MF you can get while still having a good clearspeed will have to be enough. Unfortunately, you’re not an op 1hko supertank that can clear all content naked (like some other class).
