ACT 5 MERCENARY GUIDE

Having trouble building your character all the way to destruction and doing some uberquest? Then, Having a mercenary by your side may help you on your quest.

Hello all. :D Thank you for reading my guide. If u are interested in hiring an act 5 merc this guide is for u.
1st of all, Im making this guide because im wanna let people know how STRONG and USEFUL act 5 merc is.

( Buy Merc from hatred difficulty for a bit improvement of his str and life. )

THE BARBARIANS

Considered uncivilised man-beasts by some, sons of the nephalem by others, the only reason why few outsiders from the south have reported their considerable shamanic prowess is because they were usually at the receiving end of it.

Bonuses

Starts with 10 energy, +2 energy per level
Mountain King: 20% bonus to strength and dexterity, +1% per 2 levels

Skills
Lvl Name Effect
1 GIFT OF THE WILD Effect: increases all damage of the party
12 THUNDER SLAM Effect: damages and stuns enemies in a radius ( The outmost reason using this mercenary)
18 SHOWER OF ROCKS Effect: melee attack that drops rocks that reduce attack rating
60 ANCIENTS' HAND Effect: melee attack that unleashes a shockwave through the ground
90 WARBAND Effect: summons a barbarian army

KNOWN BUGS

1. My mercenary stands there and doesn't do anything!
This is a bug with mercenary AI in Diablo II. If you walk, the mercenary will also walk, and this occasionally causes it to freeze up. To cure this, jump into a town portal OR using teleport skill.

2. My mercenary is slow, does less damage and easily die!
Due to various bugs with mercenary auras in Diablo II, reequipping items and dying are excuses for your mercenary to slack off. In addition, after being revive he easily goes dying too.Thus to prevent this from happening the merc must revive 1st if he dead then restart the game or rejoin game.

In conclusion, if want to see actual damage after equiping item just restart or rejoin the game.

Early-Game Build

Before u recruit him your lvl might have been in lvl 40-50 and ready for sunstone quest. He is very handful for tanking arrows from Amazon warriors. Here are the some suggested equipment for him.

1.Weapons:
Example: Normal, Magic, Rare Flamberge or Great Sword
Comment: If u got normal flamaberge or great sword, u can reroll using oil of renewal to make it grey socket item. Use Runeword either Shark, Enyo or Oblivion which is using rune tal, dol, lah , respectively. If u get Magic Flamberge or Rare u can downgrade into normal using catalyst of destruction recipe.

2.Armor:Any strong Armor available
Example:Gothic Plate, Full Plate Mail, Ancient Armor

3.Helms:Any strong Helms available

4.Gloves:Any strong gloves available

5.Belt:Any strong Belt available

6.Boots:Any strong Boots available

7.Amulet: Any Amulet will do

Summarize: Having Weapon and Armor is already sufficient for the merc to help u in Sunstone Quest.


Mid-Game Build


This Build when u step into terror until end of destruction difficulty, u might want to do Ennead quest. Your Merc cant help u with Challange lvl 2 which involving Death Projector.

1.Weapons:
Example: Normal, Magic, Rare Flamberge or Great Sword
Sockets: 6 Jah Runes or Runeword
MO: Deadly Strike , Enchanted Damage (Cap at 200% Not included Runes or base enchanted def for Normal item) , Increased Attack Speed , Bonus Attack rating , Enchanted Weapon Damage.

END-Game Build


The End game build is divided in to three which is Support,Offensive and Balanced build. The purpose of the End Game Build is to help u to tank monster, doing some Ubers and Farming Capability.

The Offensive Build Mainly Focus to giving u much damage as possible to the enemy and letting the merc do your work..( This Build Is just my suggestion, u can still change some armor and weapons according to your preference, u can look some comment below for another example offensive build. )

Your Mercenary can help some Uber to make it much easier but before your mercenary enter ubers area make sure he not in weak state. If in weak state go restart game and rejoin game.Here the list of Ubers and my comments on it.

1. DeathProjector: Hes too dumb to avoid lightning.(Merc cant do this quest.)

2.Creature of Flame: Too Stupid.( Merc cant do this quest.)

3.Infernal Machine : He can Support u clearing and tanking some dangerous elite that the boss spawn. (Easy with Merc)

4. Rathma Square: Good tanking and stunning Gore Crawler.
( Gore crawler will still aim your butt. Your Merc May die if tank too much)

5. Azmodan: Hes the Meat Shield.
( Medium Difficulty: Your merc is very helpful for distraction, tanking and stunning the elite enemy while u kill the boss.)(Farming place for merc for trophy)

6. Cathedral of Vanity: An Idiot Merc is useless to avoid the spiral of death from the crystal ball. (Merc cant do this quest.)

7. Vizjun: Meat Shield for the Monster BUT ROAST MEAT when in facing nuclear bombs or mines
( Your Merc May die if tank too much)(Farming place for merc)

8. Toraja : The Celebrant of the Triune and Morlu can kill your Merc if he tank too much arrow.
( Your merc can tank the arrow and proc stun to allow for u to summons edryem with less troubling. Your Merc May die if tank too much).(Farming place for merc).

9. Startled Witch: Instantly no longer a virgin.(Merc cant do this quest.)

10.Uldyssian:Such a Hardcore g*y.(Merc cant do this quest.)

11.Void: Oh plzz. Bitches Everywhere.(Merc cant do this quest.)

1.The Butcher: Dont make your merc to summon g*y horde to trap that Butcher.( Merc only make this harder )

2.The Binding of Baal : He might can handle the spell given by the enemy if he got a lot of resistance since the enemy pierce resistance.

3.Assault on Mount Arreat : Your merc might die if raped by a lot of g*ys

4. Akarat : An Unpredictable c*mshot from follower of akarat may make u face blush with anger.

( Medium Difficulty or Hard: Your Merc can tank the enemy but not the barrel. If u can avoid barrel along with your merc by using town portal or blink or pounce your merc can be useful in this uber)

11.Yshari Sanctum: Etrian Odyssey ( Diablo II Version)
( Hard Difficulty: Your Merc can do the tanking job most of the enemy here but some enemy here may kill the merc).(Farming place for merc).

But the colors for uberquests confuse me..

Green should be easy, and red should be hard right?

But "Death Projector" etc is entirely green, even though merc is useless there. (Can't avoid = instantly dead = very hard for merc)

I think you should make the ubers where the merc is useful to be green, and the less useful he is, the more dark the color.

I now change the font colour. The colour is depends on difficulty on documetation.

if u can afford it, or rare amu with + life and base damage

From my real experience, barb merc + wolf druid is the best b/c as wolf constantly pounces, the merc comes with him (and avoid a lot of attacks/barrels etc). But if you want to keep him for other chars, then you have to stack some %dr on him and have some reanimates. In that case my recommended armor would be Khazar plate or razor spine, TU heavy boots, maybe even ssu full helm and stack some lifeleech on your weapon choice. (c)

1. My mercenary stands there and doesn't do anything!
This is a bug with mercenary AI in Diablo II. If you walk, the mercenary will also walk, and this occasionally causes it to freeze up. To cure this, jump into a town portal OR using teleport skill.

2. My mercenary is slow, does less damage and easily die!
Due to various bugs with mercenary auras in Diablo II, reequipping items and dying are excuses for your mercenary to slack off. In addition, after being revive he easily goes dying too.Thus to prevent this from happening the merc must revive 1st if he dead then restart the game or rejoin game.
