ACT 5 MERCENARY GUIDE
Hello all. :D Thank you for reading my guide. If u are interested in hiring an act 5 merc this guide is for u.
1st of all, Im making this guide because im wanna let people know how STRONG and USEFUL act 5 merc is.
After testing all act merc, i have found that merc 5 is the most useful of them all and I want to share to u all how make him useful mostly on when u farming dcow to achieve level 121.

( Buy Merc from hatred difficulty for a bit improvement of his str and life. )

THE BARBARIANS

Considered uncivilised man-beasts by some, sons of the nephalem by others, the only reason why few outsiders from the south have reported their considerable shamanic prowess is because they were usually at the receiving end of it.

Bonuses

Starts with 10 energy, +2 energy per level
Mountain King: 20% bonus to strength and dexterity, +1% per 2 levels

Skills
Lvl Name Effect
1 GIFT OF THE WILD Effect: increases all damage of the party
12 THUNDER SLAM Effect: damages and stuns enemies in a radius ( The outmost reason using this mercenary)
18 SHOWER OF ROCKS Effect: melee attack that drops rocks that reduce attack rating
60 ANCIENTS' HAND Effect: melee attack that unleashes a shockwave through the ground
90 WARBAND Effect: summons a barbarian army

KNOWN BUGS

1. My mercenary stands there and doesn't do anything!
This is a bug with mercenary AI in Diablo II. If you walk, the mercenary will also walk, and this occasionally causes it to freeze up. To cure this, jump into a town portal OR using teleport skill.

2. My mercenary is slow, does less damage and easily die!
Due to various bugs with mercenary auras in Diablo II, reequipping items and dying are excuses for your mercenary to slack off. In addition, after being revive he easily goes dying too.Thus to prevent this from happening the merc must revive 1st if he dead then restart the game or rejoin game.

In conclusion, if want to see actual damage after equiping item just restart or rejoin the game.

Early-Game Build

Before u recruit him your lvl might have been in lvl 30-50 and ready for sunstone quest. He is very handful for tanking arrows from Amazon warriors. Here are the some suggested equipment for him.Make some easy money by socket some rune into throw weapon which available at shop and sell since u are doing some cubing Mystic Orb (MO) and rerolling it.

1.Weapons: Any strong weapon available
Example: Rare Flamberge or Great Sword
MO: Enchanted damage and Enchanted weapon damage.
Comment: Before equipping to merc try have some good roll by using OIl of Renewal and maximize the weapon damage by using MO Enchanted Dmg with cap at 350%.

2.Armor:Any strong Armor available
Example: Rare Gothic Plate, Full Plate Mail, Ancient Armor
MO : Enchanted Def.
Comment:Before equipping to merc try have some good roll by using OIl of Renewal and increase the armor defense by using Mystic Orb (MO) Enchanted Def

3.Helms:Any strong Helms available

4.Gloves:Any strong gloves available

5.Belt:Any strong Belt available

6.Boots:Any strong Boots available

7.Amulet: Any Amulet will do

Summarize: Having Weapon and Armor is already sufficient for the merc to help u in Sunstone Quest.


Mid-Game Build


This Build when u step into terror or in destruction difficulty, u might want to do Ennead and Binding Baal quest using merc. U need to equip him an armor with high res in fire cold and lightning at least 200% in total to let him stay alive when doing Binding Baal quest. Using some MO and Runes will do the trick.
After done Binding Baal u can change all the +resistance runes in all armor into Ko Runes which boost the merc damage.

1.Weapons: Any strong weapon available
Example: Rare Flamberge or Great Sword
Runes: 6 Jah Runes.
MO : Miasma or Crucify or Spike Nova on Attack or enchanted weapon damage.
Comment: Before using try have some good roll by using OIl of Renewal and maximize the damage by using MO Enchanted Dmg

2.Armor:Try find any tiered full plate mail and change into tiered unique(TU) Full Plate Mail.(Look into documentation at cube recipe section if u dont know how)

Your Mercenary can help some Uber to make it much easier but before your mercenary enter ubers area make sure he not in weak state. If in weak state go restart game and rejoin game.Here the list of Ubers and my comments on it.

Dungeon

1. DeathProjector: Hes too dumb to avoid lightning.(Merc cant do this quest.)

2.Creature of Flame: Too Stupid.( Merc cant do this quest.)

3.Infernal Machine : He can Support u clearing and tanking some dangerous elite that the boss spawn. (Easy with Merc)

4. Rathma Square: Good tanking and stunning Gore Crawler.
(Medium Difficulty since Gore crawler still aim your butt)

5. Azmodan: Hes the Meat Shield.
( Medium Difficulty: Your merc is very helpful for distraction, tanking and stunning the elite enemy while u kill the boss.)(Farming place for merc for trophy)

6. Cathedral of Vanity: An Idiot Merc is useless to avoid the spiral of death from the crystal ball. (Merc cant do this quest.)

7. Vizjun: Meat Shield for the Monster and the mines in there BUT ROAST MEAT when in facing nuclear bombs. Sometime he might die from tanking too much mines and mobs.
( Medium or Hard Difficulty it depends on luck when u running towards MCS if your merc proc a lot of stun it will be ez.)(Farming place for merc)

8. Toraja : The Celebrant of the Triune and Morlu hardly to make the merc losing virginity BUT LIlith can easily make him lose his virginity with some broadside skill.
( Medium Difficulty since your merc can tank the arrow and proc stun to allow for u to summons edryem with less troubling ).(Farming place for merc).

9. Startled Witch: Instantly no longer a virgin.(Merc cant do this quest.)

10.Uldyssian:Such a Hardcore g*y.(Merc cant do this quest.)

11.Void: Oh plzz. Bitches Everywhere.(Merc cant do this quest.)

Summoning

1.The Butcher: Dont make your merc to summon g*y horde to trap that Butcher.( Merc only make this harder )

2.The Binding of Baal : Need a thick condom. Errr.. Ahem! i mean a lot of resistance about 200%.
(Easy with Merc If he have high res because he can do the tanking or else die a lot.)

3.Assault on Mount Arreat : Your merc already got some protection but sometimes the protection may leak.
( Easy with because Merc can handle this alone but may sometimes die)

4. Akarat : Let your Merc do the JOB but just beware that some unpredictable white thing will hit u.
( Easy because Merc can handle the tanking alone but may sometimes die. Just be sure to kill the boss quickly before his shield up again.)(Farming place for merc for trophy)

5. Legacy of Blood: The Burning Sensation after play from the blood golem might give HIV.
( Medium Difficulty : Your Merc can take half of tanking from the Blood Golem attack and Fire Bomb and your Merc can sometimes die when taking too much FireBomb.).(Farming place for merc for trophy)

6. Lord Aldric Jitan: He Shoots literally everywhere. Just make sure u stay virgin since your merc can handle the shots but u maybe not.
( Medium Difficulty: Your merc can tank arrows and some singularity and helps u to kill boss minion and still your merc can sometime dies.)(Farming place for merc for trophy)

7.Judgment Day: Unequip your armor that have teleport on struck. Let your merc do the tanking. if u let all the edryem hit your merc u does not need to summon edryem for tanking and wait the boss appear. Your merc too freaking hardcore until the edryem need to summon his lord to finish him.(Farming place for merc for trophy)

8. Zorun Tzin : G*y Lord(Merc cant do this quest.)

9.Brother Laz. : Dont make me repeat the same thing twice.(Merc cant do this quest.)

10. MarcoNecroX : No words to describe the ______________(Insert your joke idea here).(Merc cant do this quest.)

11. Secret: Inarius’ Revenge : Secret Strategy


Uberlevels

1. Kurast 3000 BA : It just bunch of bones.
( Easy with Merc since stuns and slows pierce immunity giving u time and space to destroy the totem).(Farming place for merc).

2.Island of the Sunless Sea : I wonder what is the white thing that the monster shoots me that and its very smelly and sticky.
( Medium difficulty for ranged hero and Hard for Melee hero since the enemy here shoots some magic homing wraith that can hit u and merc although your merc will not die from it. Your Merc can only die from Malic slow Bolt of Death)

3. Khalimgrad: Virgins Everywhere.
( Easy with Merc since stun helps a lot and tanking some of the punisher)(Farming place for merc).

4. Tran Athulua : L*****n have no effect on your merc.
(Medium difficulty : Your Merc will be helpful for stunning and slowing the enemy to reduce incoming arrows and soaking some arrows.)(Farming place for merc).

5. Fauztinville: Your merc have no intention for losing virginity on a mere robots.
( Medium Difficulty :Your Merc stun really helpful to stop the Necrobot and HarpyLisk from shooting nonstop and slows down the shooting if your merc having a slowing modifier attack). (Farming place for merc).

6.The Triune : THE EXTINCTION OF DINOSAUR!!!
(Medium Difficulty or Hard: Only Temple Spire is the only main threat here, you can farm here with your Merc if u can dodge the meteor along with your merc by skill such as blink or using pounce or just run away like madman.)

7.The Unformed Land :DODGE BALL INCOMING!!!!!
(Medium Difficulty:Your Merc can help u stun and slows here and do some tanking) (Farming place for merc).

8. Kingdom of Shadow : Left 4 Dead 3.
(Hard Difficulty:Your Merc still can do some tanking for the zombie but it cannot be stunned.)

9.Ghosts of Old Bremmtown: Who u need to call? GhostBuster!!
( Medium Diffuculty: Summon some edryem at front of you to make the enemy appear and let your merc hit the enemy and do some tanking. Your merc also helpful here to stun the enemy). (Farming place for merc).

10. Duncraig:FIRE IN THE HOLE!!!!!!!!
( Medium Difficulty or Hard: Your Merc can tank the enemy but not the barrel. If u can avoid barrel along with your merc by using town portal or blink or pounce your merc can be useful in this uber)

11.Yshari Sanctum: Etrian Odyssey ( Diablo II Version)
( Hard Difficulty: Your Merc can do the tanking job most of the enemy here but some enemy here may kill the merc).(Farming place for merc).

12.Wretched Hive: Too much Bug here.
( Hard Difficulty: Give your merc some high poison resistance about 200% to let him stay alive and tank some bug)


Heroic .

1. Bull Prince Rodeo:.Bull Shit Rodeo.
(Easy with merc since he stun and do the tanking. He can join u fight BPR if u unequip item that give teleport of struck and make the BPR and your merc in corner wall but most of the time hes too dumb to wait coming BPR to the wall.) (Farming place for merc).

2.Quov Tsin.: Same as Binding of Baal.
( Medium Difficuly: Your Merc can do tanking if he got high res about 200%)

3.Belial: If u like Ratatouille dont do this uber.
( Medium Diffuculty : Your Merc can tank the punisher and the curse unleash from the boss kill some of the boss minion.)

4. Athulua: Baking Jetan Uwa Kreptan.
(Hard : Your merc sometimes die because the tremor from the rat with the addition arrow from the boss.)

5. Astrogha: Ask Spiderman to handle this.
(Merc cant do this quest.)

6. Kabraxis: It Steals something from your merc more than u can imagine.(Merc cant do this quest.)

Looks pretty good, i'll try it out at some point.

But the colors for uberquests confuse me..

Green should be easy, and red should be hard right?

But "Death Projector" etc is entirely green, even though merc is useless there. (Can't avoid = instantly dead = very hard for merc)

I think you should make the ubers where the merc is useful to be green, and the less useful he is, the more dark the color.

if u can afford it, or rare amu with + life and base damage

From my real experience, barb merc + wolf druid is the best b/c as wolf constantly pounces, the merc comes with him (and avoid a lot of attacks/barrels etc). But if you want to keep him for other chars, then you have to stack some %dr on him and have some reanimates. In that case my recommended armor would be Khazar plate or razor spine, TU heavy boots, maybe even ssu full helm and stack some lifeleech on your weapon choice. (c)

1. My mercenary stands there and doesn't do anything!
This is a bug with mercenary AI in Diablo II. If you walk, the mercenary will also walk, and this occasionally causes it to freeze up. To cure this, jump into a town portal OR using teleport skill.

2. My mercenary is slow, does less damage and easily die!
Due to various bugs with mercenary auras in Diablo II, reequipping items and dying are excuses for your mercenary to slack off. In addition, after being revive he easily goes dying too.Thus to prevent this from happening the merc must revive 1st if he dead then restart the game or rejoin game.
