Or tried a dex build that wasn't elemental?

Tried both in 1.8

UHM doesn't work as sanguine covenant's LoA doesn't work with cherubim so you lose essentially your only line of defense. The only advantages of UHM is the 5fpa and the pierce.

Non elemental dex, had medium success with
Battlemaiden
Battlemaiden
War Scepter (Sacred)

One-Hand Damage: (120 - 174) to (370 - 456)
(Amazon Only)
Required Level: 100
Required Dexterity: 494
Item Level: 120
Dexterity Damage Bonus: (0.11 per Dexterity)%
40% Attack Speed
40% Cast Speed
Adds (25 to 60)-(240 to 300) Damage
+50% Damage to Undead
(5 to 10)% Life stolen per Hit
(5 to 10)% Mana stolen per Hit
+(150 to 200)% Enhanced Damage
Weapon Physical Damage +2.4375% (Based on Character Level)
Maximum Fire Resist +4%
Socketed (6)
... But now it's Amazon only :(

I was thinking of UHM as in Superbeast+Tainted blood+Stormlord. Without any of the actual UHM tree skills. Is dex based for physical damage just way too little damage compared to str?

Problem is you won't have any source of EWD, so phys damage will be lackluster regardless of you using a str or dex weapon. The only way to make it viable dmg wise is using an elemental weapon (ice or fire) and covering pierce with sanguine covenant.

For the "Dawn" Crystal Sword ... What jewels do you suggest filling the remainging 5 sockets with? Same thing for the remaining socket on the Zohar Shield.

Thanks!

EDIT: It pays to read carefully. Found what I'm looking for in the original post. Sorry!

Tried to play that this season; sustain is difficult on elemental builds and your damage is pretty much the same whether you go elemental or physical in TUs so I wouldn't bother trying to scale elemental damage before you can pick up

(the tiny physical damage they all have is enough to leech off of) or craft a crystal sword with Life Spark proc. Any of those should get you at least far enough to farm the rest of the build.

str version is the cheaper and I would call it the starter version. Tri ele dex scaling is more damage but is very expensive in items early season.
