Now not? I tested it in MXLU before and it does. Guess skill itself is cast and debuff for 1 sec at same time so no matter, proc it or (o)skill

craft one with ctc spike nova or ctc SoR and you will see an impact . try going for a creepy shrine

ctc balefire is also worth a shot if you already pack enough weapon damage

SoR is kinda pointless now with twice lower chance 'cause targets usually dying faster than boulders start falling. Well... maybe it will hit 2-3 monsters but that's not worth hundreds of shrines (and affix that may be rolled to smth better) wasted while trying to get it along with good damage. Spike nova is only good at melee range since it expanding from character and not from killed monster. Currently it's almost pointless for ranged chars 'cause most of spikes will expand in waste (once again - it will hit 2-3 monsters but it's not worth... as oppose let's take Barrage on

or maybe instant like Pentagram (and that casted from target instead of from char).. not counting on kill procs with high chance that is for me 10%+

PS: Never liked Balefire 'cause it's burning life %. Only good on mercs which are immune to it (or just compensate it with high regen).
when was the last time you farmed ? :D get a SoR crafted weapon to either Tran Athula , Duncraig , Fauztinville or Vizjun for example and you will notice a good difference from having a proc compared to not having one (even if it's half the chance compared to 2017 ). The agro opponents are running/ chasing towards you ,so if you kill one that triggers SoR , those coming behind him will get SoR smashed (i'm not even counting the SoR enemy debuff benefits here or the high weapon damage modiffier).

regarding Spike nova , since the original poster is clearly playing a melee character (crafted 2h sword) , it will also help a lot on killing the enemies close by , as he is face-tanking them -> less chances to die swarmed

Balefire is also very usefull vs small packs/single targets . the fact that you lose some hp when it procs is worthless compared to the benefits . also , a weapon damage character usualy has access to multiple sources of life regen , either leech , loa , laek etc to compensate

a crafted weapon without a proc is worthless (unless you're a spell caster) . even if the other stats are close to perfect . i'd rather have a proc and ok-ish stats than close to perfect stats and no proc . the first thing i check while crafting a weapon is the proc: unless i see it , i keep rolling . suppose the craft only had +250 max damage and SoR proc instead of +371 max damage and no proc . which one would you use ? :)

if you want to ditch the benefits of procs , be my guest , but i'd never even consider that as an option . why would one not want more fire power ? (-:

edit: it's very clear to me that the persons who downvoted my post don't know shit about this game or melee builds in general. it's quite funny
