Most guides available now are based on melee spec (or SSU War Staff + Mana Sweep), i did not met any caster sorceress during my leveling - but those "classic" builds are very nice, too.
Pros and cons:
Pros:
- can be played untwinked (and should be played this way)
- does not require any expensive gear (maybe last ubers, see below)
- 3s teleport (divine apparition) timer is accessible at lvl78 and is much safer than barb (timerless) teleport on enemy
- not barb
- a bit slower leveling compared to good summoner barb or summoner pally, at least until ubers. Not by much
- requires lots of hotkeys and spell switching
- no good single target spell (but some ideas available)
- not sure if possible to do all ubers without respec and different item sets. Probably no, but most ubers doable (easy way!)

You really need so many hotkeys for spells and even with this setup it's not enough (game does not allow binding F10 for some reason and some other glitches) for all available spells.

Due to hotkey shortage i sometimes rebind "s" key to immersion/tempest/supernova, depending on situation; and F4 switches between "Purify" and "Summon Edyrem".

If you just playing alone, untwinked - you should get everything right with levels from very beginning.
Turn on item level and area level in game settings:
You should aim for +/-10 levels from area level, even better - only 5 level difference. If you somehow run behind area level - A5 Drifter Cavern or Icy Cellar (Glacial/Ancients WP).
You do not need any specific item setup, anything will work - from uniques to random rares.
Some very usable gear:
Stats: 1-2 to str, 1-2 to agi, 2 to ene until lvl50, later everything to energy.
Skills: 1pt moonstrike, all skills 1pt until antimass, all cold and lightning skills 1pt. Then max familiar (in 4-skill increments, but probably does not matter, because you have more than needed skills until +1 max skill lvl charms), warp armor, snow queen, frigid sphere. Remaining points balance between ice elementals and forked lightning (until you hit projectile cap, which will be early). After lvl90 - all skills 1pt, as uber choice pick witchblood.
Merc: anything you want, but probably easier early to pick A2 examplar until A5. Later take A5 merc for some physical damage.
Safety: you will be protected by elementals and merc, so physical defence is not so important, but elemental attack will still hurt you. So you can start crafting stuff early (yes, i know), from normal A2. After A2 sewers you should have 1-2 arcane crystals and few jewels, save gold for few crafting potions and go with Ith rune. You should get 2-3 usable jewels with ~20% total resistance to elements (for example, 5-10-5-5), put them into sockets (Grisvold armor?) and you won't have problems with resistances. A bit later (A4+) you can use Lem runes for stats jewels - aim for 7-10 all stats or 5 all stats+10% FCR+Resistances.
Gameplay: go outside town, summon familiars, summon ice elementals, go kill someone with forked lightning/frozen sphere. If there are corpses around - explode them with Shatter the Flesh. On stationary (read: fighting ice elementals) HP-heavy monsters use thunderstone.
Don't forget about challenges during your leveling.

Merc: i used A1 ranger (
Gameplay: similar to normal playstyle, but in hard areas you won't walk a lot. You have 3s teleport skill - use it and ice elementals/merc will protect you. So, in short - switch weapons, blink, switch weapons, use forked lightning, finish with StF, if something still alive.
Use mana sweep if you are out of mana, use antimass if you are damaged, you can use both quickly one after another in any order to refill both bulbs.
Repeat.
For some areas with many monsters you may find that Arcane Torrent + Mana Sweep combo works better (K3K, TA...). This is OK, your main dmg will rise later, use what works best for you.
Farming areas: Icy Cellar/Drifter Cavern for safe 105lvl, baalruns are ok, but much harder/takes more time. Nihruns are OK, too, because you get 2 signets every time.
105-110 - go IoTSS, it's not fast (you do not have lots of dmg, yet) but safe - forked lightning kills them even in invis, then StF on corpses, minions will show you where they hide, try not to walk, but teleport with DA on switch in small increments.

Gameplay: similar to normal playstyle, but in hard areas you won't walk a lot. You have 3s teleport skill - use it and ice elementals/merc will protect you. So, in short - switch weapons, blink, switch weapons, use forked lightning, finish with StF, if something still alive.
Use mana sweep if you are out of mana, use antimass if you are damaged, you can use both quickly one after another in any order to refill both bulbs.
Repeat.
For some areas with many monsters you may find that Arcane Torrent + Mana Sweep combo works better (K3K, TA...). This is OK, your main dmg will rise later, use what works best for you.
Farming areas: Icy Cellar/Drifter Cavern for safe 105lvl, baalruns are ok, but much harder/takes more time. Nihruns are OK, too, because you get 2 signets every time.
105-110 - go IoTSS, it's not fast (you do not have lots of dmg, yet) but safe - forked lightning kills them even in invis, then StF on corpses, minions will show you where they hide, try not to walk, but teleport with DA on switch in small increments.

Easy Ubers to do, in order:

- Butcher - easy charm, easy stats. Let minions tank, go a bit side from fire and just bomb him with thunderstone.
- IoTSS - only problem is that sunburn from angels, but avoid first one, then just teleport on angel head - he will go melee with ice elementals and won't cast spells. Easy 5% pierce.
- Death Projector - bye merc You just run in circle, sometimes casting thunderstone on projector. Very easy, just takes some time (5min?), as your dmg output is low.
- Infernal Machine - this one may be hard, depends on spawned monsters. Good charm, but due to low dmg output you may have problems. Anyway, i did it at ~106, try not to stay near doors but move forward - DA, forked lightning, StF, DA, <...>. If you can't kill them in 2-3 tries, just leave it for later (with lvl110 charms you will feel much better).
- lvl 110 ubers - all are very, very easy, because elementals tank for you. Only problem - low DPS, so Akarat may be a problem (buffing with bloodlust, good merc helps). Also Creature of Flame may be a problem early because it spawns various monsters with our damage absorb (cold, lightning, magic), so again, just level up a bit, do other ubers and return here later.
- K3K - very easy, but slow. Move with DA, kill stuff swapping between FS and FL, kill totems from far with thunderstone. Good exp. and good items, also jewel source for crafting. Torajan jungles on route also provide signets, so worth killing mobs, not only rushing to K3K
- Buyard Cholik, Rathma Square, Khalimgrad - not even worth mentioning, easy (maybe DPS check on avatars, but you can lure more zealots to remove immunities)
- TA - probably easier to use Torrent + Mana Sweep for a while. Go in, Force Blast when you see 1st enemy (more will run into and all will get debuff), torrent, antimass, mana sweep, repeat. Farmable even at low lvl until perfect charm + trophy.
- BPR - at low level it takes time and (probably) some deaths. Thunderstone does not make enough dmg, so - stay near portal, summon elementals, go in, bomb with thunderstone, go out, repeat. Easy but boring, later farmable in few seconds.
- Legacy Of Blood - tricky. Be sure that you have at least something in minion resistances and your fire res. is at max. Go in, force blast, arcane or FL, run side, arcane or FL, antimass, mana sweep, run. Never stop in one place longer than 2 seconds, always move from one side to another. You can also hit him with frigid sphere, which does much more damage for him, but you may be killed with blood golems if you can't kill him fast, as they spawn everywhere. Even on low level it's fast fight (merc will die quickly, sorry), later it's just few seconds farm for trophy.
- Cathedral of Vanity - run in, force blast, stand here until it stops shooting. Then run (not DA) to bottom laser position and thunderstone orb. Inarius after is easy, just do not go melee range, let minions tank.
Easy and good farm - trophy gives good bonus for you and on route here you can find perfect ear which provides stats/exp boost. - Azmodan - easy but slow. Never stop in this map, always move. When azmo in sight - DA near him (not on top), move a bit to side, thunderstone, move, thunderstone and so on. This way you will avoid flamestrikes and arrows, minions will tank and you just bomb him.
- Judgment Day, Athulua - easy, as with all summoners. Get JD upgraded ASAP, stats boost is nice.
- Teganze - farm place, just poor merc dies too much (see video below). Anyway, this is really easy place to farm, you can find SSU's here and good exp boost. Also, you can collect XIS rune quickly and make better Circe runeword.
- Duncraig, Triune - easy, too. DA makes everything easier, but move, too (to avoid barrels or SoR from golems). Use Force Blast to make life easier for elementals, use StF for area damage. Only triune spires are a bit problem now due to slow spells (more about this later), Frigid Sphere is slow to move, so you need to watch ground for incoming meteors and move away. Triune charm is also easy - mobs will tank all damage for you, fast DA make everything easier. Ice elementals won't save you from blinks, so you need to avoid them. Done from 1st try both of them.

Jewels: +4% lightning or +4% cold Zod rune crafted jewels
On switch: Circe + Cloudladder with Nih's (will re-do to XIS version ASAP).
There is still a lot to improve, i can get +7 skill levels without using all fancy jewels just by changing to the same gear, but with better roll, or getting better charms, also ~+30%
spell damage (and down to -30% pierce if using shaad circlet with farsight globes), all this would improve DPS by ~50% in total, but already do not have big problems in p8 bremm runs. Biggest problem is single target DPS and this is reason why i still did not killed xazax =)
I think, i can craft better gloves (+2 skills, emerald prison oskill, +% ene) and add 4th damage element. Ofc can just buy cotw's but this would be not so common/easily accessible build =)
Skillpoints end game: max warp armor, snow queen, familiar 32pt (it is possible to push this up to lvl36 at lvl150, having +1 more skillpoint, +1 panther but doubt it's worth it), 14pt ice elementals/30pt frozen sphere, everything else at 1pt. Minions have 43K+ life so can tank a lot; i have 200LaeK so life regen is not a problem, too.
Stats: if i respec now i can push everything to energy, now i still have few points left in str. Not needed, for sure, charms provide all stats needed.
Damage:
Merc: A3 bloodmage (poison/fire), with crafted +fire gear. Recently i found him aeterna sword, but not sure if this improved dmg output. Really, should not focus on fire dmg, but more on poison - punishers from graveyard can do a lot. Need to re-craft his gloves with ctc burning veil on kill, this should improve my dps a bit.
Now why i told that
Forked lightning? Meh, if using 40% MS boots we can run at the same speed as projectiles.
Frigid Sphere? Also sloooooowly moving, good luck targeting zons in TA
Thunderstone? OK if close, but at bigger distances it takes over 1s to reach target, unusable if target is moving.
Abyss? Good luck targeting anything moving.
Only 2 "fast" spells are StF (requires corpse, but it's instant) and tempest (damage sucks, usable maybe for cow runs/TA).
And here is stormfront:
It fires 3 projectiles, which in most cases hits all three, tripling damage (ok, if target is in screen corner all 3 won't hit, but this is rare case). Thunderstone still wins (by very slight margin) on static targets, but with stormfront you can snipe anything you want.
Want to kill that one necromorb running around? Here, pew pew!
Athulua jumps around? Pff, not a problem now!
Some "solo" necrobots with omg lazors? Snipe them easily!
It is now main "solo target" killing skill, except some hard targets which do not die from single shot (like uldy bosses).
I did all ubers except Samael (got charm on auction, but Ben did it with caster cold sorc already), witch (did not tried, will do soon) and rathma supremacy charm (this one is probably doable, never tried, but i don't see why not).

Forked lightning? Meh, if using 40% MS boots we can run at the same speed as projectiles.
Frigid Sphere? Also sloooooowly moving, good luck targeting zons in TA
Thunderstone? OK if close, but at bigger distances it takes over 1s to reach target, unusable if target is moving.
Abyss? Good luck targeting anything moving.
Only 2 "fast" spells are StF (requires corpse, but it's instant) and tempest (damage sucks, usable maybe for cow runs/TA).

It fires 3 projectiles, which in most cases hits all three, tripling damage (ok, if target is in screen corner all 3 won't hit, but this is rare case). Thunderstone still wins (by very slight margin) on static targets, but with stormfront you can snipe anything you want.
Want to kill that one necromorb running around? Here, pew pew!
Athulua jumps around? Pff, not a problem now!
Some "solo" necrobots with omg lazors? Snipe them easily!
It is now main "solo target" killing skill, except some hard targets which do not die from single shot (like uldy bosses).
I did all ubers except Samael (got charm on auction, but Ben did it with caster cold sorc already), witch (did not tried, will do soon) and rathma supremacy charm (this one is probably doable, never tried, but i don't see why not).
Some advices about other ubers:
- Toraja, Bremmtown, Vizjun - easy and farmable (just bremm is fast, toraja is slow). Do not move, all time just DA/teleport - it's much better compared to barbie spirit walk, because you do not land directly on enemy, but somewhere close and are immediately protected by 15 icy balls.
- Yshari Sanctum - set part is very easy and i recommend to do it as soon as you can enter. Second maze polar worms give good items, you get good exp overall and all mazes (except maybe last one) are very easy. I entered 1st time and finished everything without any problems (and probably dying). Valthek is a bit harder, but practice makes perfect - after some time it's possible to farm him even before time limit lock.
Or before last hit he goes crazy, casts 54684981616546 spells in 1 second and you die just when time limit locks entrance =) - Uldyssian - easy, boring and stupid. 40 minutes from creating game to 40% uldy life and 5 hours to finish remaining 40%. Maybe this is due to lag or something, but he never drops his shield. Some hints:
- do not let him to get into bottom left/right corner, as you can't see anything. Best corner is top-right. You can handle him there, if the tries to run away - blink asap in front (he runs away).
- do not bother to kill every edyrem, they are busy with your summons, which are immortal (until deathstrike). Let them fight until pack becomes so big that you can't cast purify. Place few abyss globes and run in circles (from deathstrike) around, not going anywhere far away (else uldy will run into other corner). Abyss works best here because it kills when you are already running, this way even with lag you can avoid deathstrikes.
For second time i can do this much faster, but anyway, this is just boring purify casting non-stop. No challenge, no avoidance tricks... - Xazax - don't go with all summons. Keep familiars and 1 summon (or none at all for beginning), it's more than enough. Use abyss (it's very hard to target, but does max damage here), run.
Run all time in approx 80% screen circle around xazax, stopping every few seconds to cast abyss. Main problem - items and obstacles on ground, allways stopping on some jar or junk on ground and then get few blows from penitents. With half million defence (if you keep one elemental nearby) they won't hit you every time but still, if you stuck and won't move - dead.
You can cast elemental in front of xazax to keep him busy for few seconds, but i found that this is not most efficient way to kill him.
Also, be very carefull when teleporting when elementals are beaten by penitents - they teleport with you and bring flowers together, very possible the you teleport and die instantly. - does not matter where you go, always check buffs - mana shield, lightning shield, bloodlust (slightly over 3 minutes ) and so on. After teleport/DA - allways debuff with Force Blast (Bremm is exception and super-easy ubers like TA/Teganze too - because they do no damage anymore) before killing them with light/ice. Also, use StF on groups - it's "instant" skill, will improve group killspeed a lot.
