Ok! That sucks :/ I'm plugging through but it does seem to struggle a little mid - late game.

Hive isn't a summon, it's a buff that causes a swarm to surround an enemy and deal poison damage. Think those items are just for the +x% to Summon Life/Damage/Resistances as well as Hivemind's EPR (-x% to Enemy's Poison Resistance) and other stats.

I think Darklings are rather useless, but the Sinners from Rathmas do alright, and I currently use Dux Infernum as a weapon which can summon two Jinns that are also useful.

Hard to say. They screen dmg is at 1700 while my scourges are at 5000, but they use different skills, so it spreads differently. They are not a game changer, but they support alright.
