Early Game (before 120)

Skillplan

max boneyard , nightwalker , dream eater , embalming , death pact , death ward . no points in other trees . maby just 1-pointer blood skeletons if you wish
after level 90 - keep Dream Eater between 10 and 13 pointer (timerless) acording to how often you are using it. don't get more than 13
- dump the rest of the points to the Veil king . don't put any points in Talon's Hold , you got enough reanimate sources already

Gameplay

- you are not Rambo . you got crap defense due to the low req. items you got on . even if you can heal nice with Dream Eater , you can get raped really fast if you take hits in the face , so don't get hits in the face . let your reanimates do that for you. Spots like Nightmare Duriel will therefore be annoying. Sacrifices are the Key .

before level 90 :
- buff with the 1-pointer Pestilence
- stay behind your reanimates and use Boneyard as main attack , Dream Eater to heal when necessary
- before attempting any dangerous fights cast some Sacrifices in order to get some reanimates to do the tanking
after level 90:
- summon the Veil King . he can tank most of the spots without any problem
- cast Bane on the Veil King when necessary , for lowering your opponents' resistance
- stay behind your reanimates and use Boneyard as main attack , Dream Eater to heal when necessary
- before attempting any dangerous fights cast some Sacrifices in order to get some reanimates to do the tanking

Gameplay

- let the Veil King tank all that seams dangerous , along the reanimates you got on. he has a shitload of HP and 50% avoid . you can count on him . Whenever he is low HP , resummon him asap before he dies , so that he won't get hostile . if however he gets killed , use Dream Eater to slow him down and kill him
- stay behind your army and use Orb of Annihilation as main attack , Dream Eater to heal when necessary/to slow any dangerous enemies
- before attempting any dangerous fights cast some Sacrifices by using the switch gear in order to get some reanimates to do the tanking
- cast Bane on the Veil King when necessary , for lowering your opponents' resistance

why should it be nerfed? I guess you didn't try playing melee necro if you say that. with melee necro you basically need taha for weapon and you can pretty much do almost all content with TU and honorifics.

Dream Eater will probably get nerfed. It does an incredible amount of damage in a not-that-small AoE. And it literally full heals you with one or two casts, even with 10k+ HP. It slows all enemies including bosses to almost a stand-still, and it's a ranged attack.

Will it get nerfed into the ground? Probably not. Will it have its heal amount, AoE size, or slow% reduced to balance it out? Pretty good chance.

Yes , while waiting for next patch hotfix to come out (there are some bugs to be fixed in general) I will still keep Dream Eater just as support. It heals good enough even if I am investing just 13 points.

That way , in case it gets nerfed I won't feel any difference.

If it won't get nerfed , it will open more end game options to combine with.

History has thought us that many cool things got "fixed" soon after release or in the next patch. See for example the divine apparition


I won't throw myself yet at using it as main attack in order to avoid disappointments

%UA reduces the time when your character gets locked by hit recovery or block animation . if you got to the cap of HFR (and FBR if you wear a shield and got any significant chance to block) , UA is not usualy needed for a spell caster .

if the speed calculator is correct , you need 152 fhr for 5 frames and 377 for 4 frames. 377 is hard to get , so 152 would be enough and then get some %UA to make sure you avoid getting stuck . anything around or above 50% should be ok , 100% is not mandatory if you are not the main tank , which in this case you are not , as the veil king and the summons take care of that .
