I don't think that's how Broadside works. The damage of each knife depends on the moment you put the machine down. It's impossible to install the device while your cloak duration is less than 0.4 seconds. Besides, 0.1 sec of immortality doesn't mean anything. The combo would be: Backstab to get cloaked (about 1.9-2 sec) then quickly Broadside.
Another thing is that Backstab increases magic damage done by Broadside, so you would want to maximize the damage output.
Backstab has 7s cool-down, Broadside can get as close as to 7.2 s cd, hence we have the synergy.

No, backstab bonus damage is properly applyed to broadside knifes DURING the cloaking time, it's not related to the weapon or the moment you use it in any way. The combo Broadside then backstab work properly. The rest is right though ! I recommand ~7 sec cd backstab so they can be used together.

As for the the reason as to why it's better than no cd is purely practical, simply put you have others things to do during broadside 7 sec cd than swinging backstab again and again. Even if the theorical sheet damage is better, you lose because you're doing nothing else. Not to mention it's way better in median to move around rather than keep swinging in front of the enemy the whole day... Also backstab is insane as a defensive tool, the immunity can really save lots of situation. With no cd (There were a whole season we had to play like that at endgame so I know) you have no control of it, you just attack and pray. It's terrible

As the goal is not to tank everything but to survive, yes, immensly. If instead of getting one shotted by some fuckery (let's say bone spear source right in the middle of the penta while there's exploding orbs :mrgreen:) you get mid life instead because backstab tanked a few things, what can you ask for more.

As the goal is not to tank everything but to survive, yes, immensly. as I have not yet had the patience to try and make a Natasha, however I am not entirely convinced that it is required at all, because with a +2 amu I'd be already at 90 F/C/L. Rolling a craft with 2 sk and 15% all attributes seems like a good alternative and that one I could use to increase Cold pierce which will be the lowest as I get close to 140.

is the best, but you for sure at least need the gloves.
Boots and Body armors look virtually useless outside of some vitality, but again as to what to use in their place...
