Not only that. I went with 1024x768 for a few reasons.

  • Not everyone has big monitors
  • AI are totally not meant to support a resolution too high
  • The GUI would too look empty because you don't have enough stuff to fill them up (patching the gaps with big ass border is just as ugly)
  • Bigger file size (bigger GUI everywhere, results in bigger file size)
  • Bigger resolution means more stuff on the screen being drawn and therefore increasing the lag/overflows (on a game that could barely keep it up in 800x600)
  • The worldmap becomes so ugly because you totally see outside of levels and see big black zones you aren't meant to see (in 1024x768 it isn't that bad)

tbh, im hoping for widescreen resolution at least which is 720p, but i guess 4:3 higher resolution than base is better than nothing.

widescreen now have become standard and black bar at side made it worse (ppl used stretched screen even more worse..)

i was seeing this other mod and there is just 2 resolutions 1280x768 and 1024x768 and is i dont think is get ugly.

Why the fuck people have problems with pillar-boxing? I bet you are the kind of people who think it's possible to shove rectangle into a square, and vise versa, without losing proportions, and is a-okay with distorted 4:3 video on a 16:9 screen as long as it's not "those ugly black bars".

They were proposing to make the GUI in 16:9 aspect ratio, not to stretch the current (and future) 4:3 one.

As multires demonstrates, diablo can run fine in 16:9, if the GUI supports it. To solve this, multires resized the borders around GUI windows, but whist dropped support for them in sigma to simplify his work.

The increased vision of monsters will hopefully make crowd farming even easier. :D
Think starting a new game with some AoE like Sunstrike and having lots of monsters instantly follow you to get to lvl 5 in just a few attacks. Lovely.
