finished Masamune-kun no revenge.

starts ok, then progressed into a shitshow of slice of life with dramedy only to have a very generic ending. pretty much what i was expecting it to be tho.

im sorry Kana Hanazawa, even though you were relegated to a forgettable side character on this one. unforgivable.

4/10

So I started reading the light novel to tensei shitarra Dragon and so on. (Don‘t confuse it with the rimuru manga, it‘s nearly as good though)

Good part: there are still over 200 chapters for me to read.

Bad part: the manga has 8 chapters. And that way it already reached chapter 64 in the lightnovel. I‘ll have to deal with waiting for ages until that story ends.
So honestly it‘s not surprising that there’s only 1 manga chapter per month :(

yep so far winter 2019 anime season has been pretty bad for the most part..... pretty lackluster so far for like 3 or 4 anime series.

Watched Circlet Princess , or rather tried to. Dropped after an ep and a half. Absolute garbage.

Just finished Mahoutsukai no Yome TV series and OVA

Before I start to watch this, Im aware that this series was super hyped and most anticipated adaptation in one of the season. By the graphic from poster alone, you kinda can predict what type of story this will be. I didnt want to judge it so I went first in with OVAs (recommend to watch it after episode 8 of main series iirc, because characters are properly introduced in main series).

The series mainly is more toward fantasy / supernatural although albeit have more mini arc rather than overarching narrative (there is 1). Our heroine is simply said, someone who like to help other people while herself is kinda fragile. She went through a lot of hardship at young age and finally found somewhere that she can called home. She traveling through various different area (or world?) to help all different kinds of being from fairy, dragon, vampire and human. Cut the series short, she are paired with one of powerful mages who really want her to become his bride.

The cast are varied and each have their own "tragic" back story that somehow made who they current self, just like our heroine. Again, the character, the setting and environment have tons of variety which lighten the mood when story are not heavy. Hmm, maybe you could even call this genre as adventure, although there are no narrative about traveling a lot though. There are slice of life element, but I think the series are more toward telling a lot of back story and strange encounter.

I dont want to spoil about this series more, if you think you want something heavy, tense, dark, with a lot of fantasy element, i suggest you to watch this immediately. But again, only if you are ok with slow atmospheric type of anime.

For other recommendation : I will start anime with strong female protagonist so I suggest Akatsuki no Yona and Akagami no Shirayuki-hime. For supernatural stuff, Made in Abyss and Mushishi is probably closest. Lastly, something that loosely similar probably Spice & Wolf and Howl Moving Castle.

Finished 2 meh series:

1. Renai Boukun : Love Tyrant
I dont mind for terrible cliche story as long as it is entertaining, but one part of anime genre that I cant get used into is when they go full absurd comedy or wacky slapstick joke. You can say that it need specific type of comedy for me to get couple of laugh. This story start from 0 - 100 in the first episode that I already feel from the start that this wasnt going to be serious type of anime.

You have shinigami/cupid which have to make people fall in love or she die. So she stuck with our MC for her survival reason. I have watch a lot of anime with this type of premise, but when it went far from having plot toward to full pointless stuff, then i stop caring about the anime at all. It tried to introduced several characters including a yandere (seriously, this killed the series for me). Not really a romance or harem, but straight full comedy from start to finish. It tried to have some drama at last 2 episodes, but I already know it will happily ever after at the end.

My recommendation is skip this. Go for anime that used their genre strength to full potential. The only stuff I liked was the OP, which i discovered randomly on Spotify.

Other recommendation : for similar style anime, Sora no Otoshimono is better overall product. For wacky stuff, I have soft heart for Pani Poni Dash. Or u want more old school harem with tsundere, Love Hina came to my mind.

2. Koufuku Grafitti
Food porn. Nothing more to say about this anime series. I kinda put high expectation because of shaft animation and how high production the anime feel. In the end, visual is just a small part of anime. You need to have good story telling, plot, character etc etc. Im at least would tolerate if it try to educate viewer with recipe or something, but not really.

Every episodes are filled with girls eating food that look gorgeous and alluring, but aside from that, u have small scale of friendship and slice of life. Food always be the major topic of every episode, but my issue that there arent much.... story. You do see the season changes, the challenge with each season and school, but there arent much story about their life.

This anime is only watchable for the food porn, nothing more. Even more juicier than other food series (atm, i think food wars have highest quality below this series). Girl characters interaction is there, but barebone.

Other recommendation : A bit more in depth probably Amaama to Inazuma which have more focus on story / plot. If you want more slice of life girls in college, Hidamari Sketch is always good. If you want more moe / cute girls, then Gochumon wa Usagi desu ka is similar stuff. Just take notes there arent many good anime for this genre (cute girl doing cooking stuff), at least that I already watched / remembered.

Finished Yuri on Ice

Personally, I have issue with this anime. Not because the fujoshi-bait or BL stuff, but how fast the setup of anime are. If you start watching episode 1, you will feel like every was on steroid or something. This is ok for comedic purpose, but not so great for anime that you want to setup as realistic or having drama.

Thus I kinda began with questioning if this scenario can occur or not, while I can accept for those "my normal school life suddenly attacked by unknown being" premise, this one start not from a blank slate. This series is almost like all other sports shounen style anime, except it started at maybe after 3 or 4 episode because it went straight to training without properly introducing everyone (they did, but quite rapidly fast).

Most of the episodes are basically you see the competition of ice skaters, some with inner monologue, some with inner struggle. But most of the part...it just drag too long for me. I know you want to show everyone's performance, but i dont think it can work with short 1 season anime. It feel 80% of air time is ice skating without proper story or progression (normal sports anime went as long as hundred of episodes tbh).

Despite sound negative, Yuri on Ice is decent anime. It is just ... i didnt feel attached much. There are a simple story they want to tell, but too many ice skating and not enough story IMO.

Other recommendation : Free probably the closest one I can think that appeal to female demographic. For sports, Haikyuu and Yowamushi Pedal came to my mind. If you somehow want the female yuri version of sports anime, Saki and Bamboo Blade came to my mind.
