Thanks for confirming that.

I'm wondering what merc is best for this build. The general tips section would prob go Shapeshifter (and the only other choice there is Bloodmage for melee) but I'm wondering about Fighter Mage since Shifter seems to have no regen and the fast attacks of Fighter Mage for the "proc machine" sounds useful - Glacial Nova, Chronofield procs? I'm just worried he won't be tanky enough, but once we get scourges up and running, is this build more like a summoner type anyway?
the best merc is the one that suits your needs best . The recomandation i make are not 100% compatible with all player needs ,since we are not all the same , so if you feel like going for something else , go ahead . Any option is viable if geared properly .

barbarians and shapeshifters provide extra damage boost (gift of the wild/bloodlust) , reason why they would suit such a build . normaly you get a shapeshifter since act2 , in act 5 you get a barbarian and keep it till finish . The other mercs are also viable if you wish to choose something else . Feel free to pick whatever you think it's fine for you .

regarding the scourges , no , he is not ment to be a summoner , but since you are neutral and can only invest the skillpoints in a neutral tree , you will have enough points for maxing them in early and mid game , so why not use them ? the real tanks come via Demiurge , reason why in end game you skipp the scourges entirely , using the skillpoints you dumped there for maxing the realy important skills .

Get a Terror difficulty Act 3 Abjurer, put some Ornate Crafts on him with Ort runes ===> profit. He has such an insane killing speed that tankiness isn't even a problem anymore.

read the cube recipes and MO description carefully .

you may do some test on a useless item with a few MO's and check how it goes before mo'ing your gear

good luck !

Thanks again for the clarifications, especially the Demiurges being the tanks in later game.

I wasn't suggesting skipping the scourges (I just got them and they're really good), the reason I was trying to think about it as maybe a "summoner" build was only to try to understand which merc fits best, based on the definitions I've seen around the forums, in your General Tips section and also where the beginner's guide talks about mercs suited for ranged / summoner / melee etc.

Sorry, I should have made it clear why I was talking about summoner - just thinking along the lines that if he's safe behind an army then he doesn't need a tank, so he can have a merc to proc some stuff (or maybe to do damage, as the post below yours suggests).

I wasn't knocking the build in any way, just trying to understand. Now I do. :)

it all depends on your gear and skillplan + your questions are too general/vague . please be more precise in what you wish to know and hopefully i might help ; there are a shitload of viable combinations and i need to know which one are you using in order to determine what needs to be done

A question for the (very fun) Reanimatrix build: At the "early gear" section it is written:
Mo the armors with %skeleton reanimates , %fire spell damage / extra -%requirements in order to have less stats wasted into strength and dexterity.

I'm not very sure what to make of this, so please take the time to look at the 3 possible interpretations and point out the correct one:

1) MO with %skeleton reanimates
OR
MO with %fire spell damage
OR
MO with extra -%requirements

(Pick only one)

2) MO with %skeleton reanimates AND %fire spell damage
OR
MO with extra -%requirements

(Pick only one)

3) MO with %skeleton reanimates AND %fire spell damage
OR
MO with %skeleton reanimates AND extra -%requirements

(Pick only one)

Thank you.
