are you using multires?

no? whats that? What does the D2SE do? Would that make it work?

Update. I get the same problem making a single player character, slightly different error: 06ec2d42 don't know if that helps.

no, multires won't help and its not allowed on realm anyways, I googled the first error you had and multires came up as a possible reason for it. D2SE allows you to swap mods/patches without manually doing it, among other things. Its best to try to get the game working before using any of the allowed 3rd party programs first.

Yeah, the newest patch, then I used the rollback and installed 1.13c, it says version 1.13 in the game menu.

Most likely you have installed Diablo using Blizzard's installer, which downloads version 1.14, the wonderful patch that adds nothing and manages to break a lot of compatibilities.

Sad reality is, you can either go with 1.14 and single player, but if you want to join multiplayer you will need to torrent the game pre 1.14 and update to 1.13

the 1.14 rollback doesn't work, it only worked for the first 1.14 version iirc, but after they added 1.14b you could no longer simply rollback. so, as marco said, gotta install from CDs or get a torrented version that is not 1.14.

other than that, it's easy. apply 1.13c patch, put the mpq in the d2 folder, run the reg file, and you're set to go.
