You are not forcing "intendent-fast-paced-game", but causing an inconvience.
Why is that so hard to understand?
Its like blizzard, who would not allow us to see actual HP numbers, or actual resource costs, or actual CDs on skills.

Lol who cares man, make a chicken macro if it's that big of a deal, it'll be cool. More immersion!!!!

What?

No longer shall I pause in battle! Pausing in battle doesn't even make sense...
"Hold on guys I need to go open the door" -freezes baal-

I care.
What chicken macro?
More immersion - is "Darker Nights" mod for skyrim, thats immersion. Here, its inconvience.
Ok.
Keep on talking to them mobs :!:

Just shut up already. I'm tired of following this topic to look for some whist's amazing process, but always see you crying.

Well, I don't even think this new feature will even make any significant change to my experience, but seeing the way you're prolonging this conflict, I think it would be much better if this feature could be switched on/off.
if it's possible to toggle this feature on/off, this conflict will be done, WITHOUT DOUBT! Hardcore players will have a way to make the game a bit more challenging and the others will comfortably settle playing the conventional way.

whist wrote:This is not only to get rid of a few exploits. Trying to stop people from hacking in single player would be pretty dumb (although I still implement a few anti-hacks whenever I can to stop the low level skilled "hackers"). This also forces the fast-paced game mindset that MXL is. It's also a balance measure in some cases. To start off it makes town portal scrolls a little more important. There is also the fact you can't pause to see what's going on and then resume after you thought about what you were going to do. No, now you got to react in real-time. And if you "absolutely" need to take a pause, well then you got to open a tp and go to town. If you're surrounded by enemies, it becomes more or less a balance measure because you can either succeed in opening the TP and retreating to town, die, or leave and lose your progress (if you didn't have tp's left for example)

Complaining about this really is complaining for nothing. It won't change your experience if you play the game the way it's intended.
Players on realm never saw this as an issue, and yet they had to deal with lag (possibly causing delays before the portal opened for example), why would you?

Although I really appreciate your work, but to be honest this 'fix' really does not seem to serve any purpose. Players on the verge of death in hardcore can still press Esc-> down arrow -> enter, which will hardly take even half of a second to do. So exploiters will still continue to exploit, whereas players wanting to pause for legitimate reasons / convenience will be the ones at loss.

So, why take the pain to change something that will not really add value to the game while that hard work could have been better utilized for some other purpose?

I do have to oppose you on this one, whist. Even if you do go and do this, won't people just find a way to put it back the other way? I feel that the SP community has been taking a few hits recently. Yes, you are pushing incentive to play online. Yes, more online play means more exposure to the public. This is all good, but even something that should be as small and insignificant as removing pause from going into the escape/options menu is incredibly annoying to the veterans of SP D2. I feel like this should be cast to a vote as you could see how much support this change would have. Or not, it's completely up to you and Marco (and whoever else).

TL;DR I don't think you should remove escape pause, but I won't bitch if you do. I would support a majority vote on this topic, but again, up to you guys.

This literally change nothing if you play the game the way it's intended to be played. It will change your experience only if you exploited it before this was implemented lol. And it takes a few minutes at most to get used to it. I have yet to see a valid argument for not implementing this. Hint, it takes me 5 more seconds to take a pause is far from a relevant argument.

Just my two cents, I respect the work.

No pausing means a bit more unnecessary dying...
Like, when are you going to open the door you put to pause (say it is during the fight which is full of mobs, so no place for portal)
After opening door, you come back and resume fight from the same place without certain death.
True, you can flee to some more empty space and cast portal there :P
However, pausing is more as SP comfort that MP do not have.

And what about death price?
It may be completely removed...

Not just price alone.
Body with equip too.
Like in D3, why did they remove losing body in death?
Because it makes the game more comfortable.
Without unnecessary new game re-creating (exit and enter again to claim your body)..

I wouldn't agree. These changes would make dying a banality. Not to mention, the big experience gap from level 120 to 150 will give a meaning to the experience penalty on death (and yet another good reason for no pause). As for the body, I already removed the game's "auto-equip feature" when picking up junk items on ground accidentally (so no more noobs losing their gear because they picked up junk while retrieving corpse). Corpse retrieving is meant as a balance feature. Either work to retrieve your corpse, or just leave and lose your progress.
