gameplay is still the same. You pick one skill you like, build your tree around it and support it with the best gems in your opinion. This always leads to the gameplay being - spam 1 skill, buff yourself, debuff monsters, summon pets
Is this still true? I wanted to give a try to this game while wating Sigma or whatever new version, but this sounds like a boring shit. IMO ARPG should be based on skill combos, skills that avaliable under certain conditions such filled charge bar or special morph or buff. Otherwise it can be only minmaxing grindfest with pressing one button.

Is this still true?

Pretty much,yes. Ideally,most of your buffs and curses should autocast(cast when damage taken etc),which leaves you(usually) with one damage spell,one mobility spell and auras. I'm still playing it tho cause I love ladder resets/seasons/new leagues and new content. Keeps me occupied for a week or two.

I tried GD and it's good, but rather similar. It also passive based and most builds is around one mastery with several passives from second mastery. Build diversity is high like in MXLU, but in terms of gameplay difference most builds are near to be identical.

A new content patch is dropping next week along with fresh leagues so I'll be jumping into the hc one. Not sure what build yet, but since I have not played with the Ascendancy expansion "sub classes" I'm really impressed with the Duelist's champion (seems broken as hell) so I will be making one of those - maybe a melee or a poison arrow ranger.

If anyone wants to party up on release lmk.

Understandable free fortify for any build and all, although from what I read that class was better in 2.2 and is getting nerfed in the upcoming patch.

I've finally narrowed down my build options to two:

1) Essence drain + Contagion occultist. Life based, double curse from the occultist together with -20% enemy chaos res near you. Having to be near enemies + its hc is a pretty easy pointer towards having some armour scaling and 6 endurance charges for physical mitigation. Since I don't need any regular auras my setup will be a blasphemy together with Enfeeble & Vulnerability + some lvl clarity if necessary.

The vuln debuff (with +20% curse effectiveness) + chaos res pierce + 300% increased damage over time should destroy everything while being immune vs reflect. Add in a wither totem for bosses and super safety vs spike damage (double enemy crit multi reduction from enfeeble + indomitable) and the more engaging style of play (2 buttons vs 1) this build is looking really sweet.

Only downside - getting the gem colours on an armour chest will be a huge pain in the arse (5 off for max dps, 4 off for a compromise). Might have to use an armour+es which isn't too terrible considering all the free %es scaling I have from occultist and my tree, however this means no celestial justicar. Otherwise -> celestial justicar, hoard chromes from the start of the league like a median noob hoards chipped gems and pray to rngsus.

2) Earthquake + 2h mace slayer. Free 40% aoe from the ascendancy means I don't have to bother with spending lots of inefficient points just to reach the templar area. Fast leech + 50% reduced reflect vs phys should cover that area. Minimise attack speed to make sure every attack generates an aftershock. Big armour scaling, 7 endurance charges, crit reduction (I love this cluster if you didn't get it already :mrgreen: ), many dps nodes, build finished early - 89.

Will probably wan't to use a marohi erqi unique weap endgame as it has the highest phys attack damage and free 7th link of increased aoe. With that mace one attack should basically be a screenwide piercing nova that does 1.95 WDM at max level (median style boys :lol: ). Auras hatred or determination (hopefully dmg is enough without hatred), herald of fire. Slayer bonuses grant an instant kill on any enemy at 20% life or below, which is amazing for tough bosses and especially the new map labyrinth since on the last and hardest boss fight the boss starts at 33% hp.

Only downside - starting a new ladder with a non-spellcaster means you have to keep upgrading your weapon as you go. And from what I hear the rustic recipe was nerfed/removed? so some junk shopping will have to be done in the early days but nothing major.

The last time I played, which was 2.0 I believe, I managed to get to 92 before I got bored with no rips across 3 characters. So personal goal this time around is at least 93.

Bought a 250 pdps mace for 1c with an open prefix. Master crafted flat phys, 6 socketed in 20 jewellers, 5 linked in 4 fusings (the rng is real). 310 dps + 5L 6S + 25% chaos res weapon on league day 2 = ownage

Im also start playing PoE back since I skipped the whole ascendancy / talisman stuff.

Feel like a lot of nice addition to the game with new skill gems, new skill tree (ascendancy) and prophecy.
Much better than when I played warband with weaksauce frostblade.

This time, my idea was to play trapper / miner (havent finalized yet)
Sadly, it was kinda late to realize that elemental overload doesnt work with trap...

My build
My current weird fire nova miner + lightning trapper

To be honest, I have no idea either I want to be trapper or miner so I just keep taking general skill for both.
And since crit multiplier is useless with elemental overload, so I skipped the crit wheel near witch.
At the moment, I keep the creeping near couple of big passive nodes and I still no idea what would be my damage mitigation (aside from MoM).

I know bladefall trapper is super strong, but I like to play along while figure things out.
Not sure if gonna be playing until lvl 85++ or not, but since I usually i stopped playing after killing a uberboss (I stopped last time after killing atziri and malachai for first time....) so this one probably Im targeting the uber lab.

Hope it is doable without needing to make another char.

Endgame lab is not that difficult but can be rippy if you do not have good phys mitigation and high enough life/es buffer. I quite like the Labyrinth in general, reminds me of the BRC a lot except that you have to do it once per difficulty. Would also have been nice if the head enchantment reward for completing the Merciless one was a bit less random.

Meanwhile, building that base...
