Unlimited pages aren't necessary, sure, but it was fun collecting the best versions of SUs and Set items that I found (as in better than the previous ones I had, not necessarily perfect ones). It made finding even trash uniques kinda fun because I would go back and compare it to the one I already had and then disenchant the worse of the two. That's going to be hard to do with limited stash pages, since I'd have to throw away every trash item to make space for the useful stuff.

Is this version going to be backwards compatible with characters from older versions? Or we will have to start a new game?

What would be cool is to implement as part of the reward system is to enable specific menu options like the item filters. The better you are or more challenges you complete the more access you get. Heck, even have one that will grant you the built in map-revealer. Just a thought if not already thought of.

No, even if all the code edits and the fact that as far as I remember Marco plans to modify and rebalance a lot of stuff didn't make the savegames incompatible, the fact that whist changed the character savefile structure and increased its size limit surely will.

Meh, I don't really like this idea. The need to unlock non gameplay-related stuff for every char becomes boring fast. Kinda like how the stash gold limit now starts from the maximum possible value instead of increasing. Besides, that would take more coding. As always, whist and Marco are the ones who work on this and that will ultimately decide, so remember that my opinions are mine and mine only.

That would be relatively easy to have sigma reformatting the save files to the sigma format. (well, actually that could be tricky since marco is doing a lot of file re-organization, mainly in stats files and what not) That's kinda what the "convert to expansion" button does actually. Although the fresh start is not a limitation but rather a wanted behavior. This is a brand new mod, that's meant to be played from the start, and we don't want old characters to work.

Why is this even a bad thing? You say yourself they are trash, why in the hell would you even bother to keep them? At this point just keep screenshots of them, that will do the same. Unlimited pages just makes the game easier for the fact you can keep everything without having to make any kind of choice, and removing this is a good thing imo. Let's not forget the stash in sigma is big as fuck, so even a single page allows you to keep a lot of items. The cube itself also is much bigger.

I dunno, it's not entirely logical, same as with collecting anything (like coins or stamps IRL). Sure, I could just collect screenshots of them, but it's less meaningful when I can't throw them onto new characters whenever I feel like it.
Also a "trash" item might have a use for a future character even if I can't think of one at the moment. With an unlimited stash I could always come back to it and try different combinations of items with it. That sort of experimenting is fun.

Plus I don't see twinking as necessarily a bad thing like you do. Sometimes you want to just get to end game as quickly as possible, and sometimes you want to play untwinked. I play both styles all the time (usually untwinked though, especially in MXLU). It's better to leave that sort of difficulty decision to the player.

IMO the best solution for single player is to allow unlimited stashes, but have periodic wipes like with the realm. That way you have a decent amount of time to build up a big stash with a nice progression starting with cheap, farming characters and ending with godlike characters that require the efforts of multiple previous characters to accomplish their specialized builds, followed by a new patch with a wipe so you can start over again.
