Okay, so I had this idea that came up and thought I would start a discussion to get everyone's thought about it, including Marco.

Here's the idea. What if one item, say an unique item, could unlock a whole new skill tree. That's a little hard to explain, so let me make up an example to explain the concept. Let's say you have the following unique wand.

The Elder Wand
Grim Wand (Sacred)

One-Hand Damage: 77 to 88
Durability: 108
(Necromancer Only)
Required Dexterity: 172
Required Level: 100
Adds Dexterity Damage Bonus: (25/256 per Dexterity)%
Unlocks Wand Wielding Skills
some stats
Socketed (2)

Now, when you equip this wand, it would append a brand new page to your skill tree, with a new set of skills to put points in. The said page and skills wouldn't be displayed unless you have this item. Removing the item would remove all points you allocated into these skills. In other words, the item is the build. This concept already kind of exist as it is, with unique/set/runeword items that grant a set of oskills allowing the player to create decent new builds, but this would bring this concept on a whole new level.

No... the code would take items of your corpse into account. Equipping another weapon in the same position would remove the points. Although this is only a concept for now. I might end up making it so that not having the item doesn't remove the points but all skills from the unlocked tree requires the item to be used.

Infinite skill points? How could this even be possible...

Unique.
I like this idea. Does it apply to a subgroup of items (e.g. wands) or individual items.

equip weapon -> do something weird -> unequip weapon and the skillpoints will be added to the regular ones instead of disappearing - this was no critic or whatsoever just a small grasp of what could go wrong

That would be impossible.

Great!
Does we have to re-invest the skill points if we die?

imho, the idea is too optimistic

case a) the skills are clones of existing skills => boring and uninnovating tree (and it's hell of a lot of work to make skills, even clones)
case b) the skills are brand new and cool => you can't restrict them to a lolitem... that'd be just so wrong

The concept isn't bad, but the way you want to make it, is a no-no. Mostly because making skills is an incredible pain in the ass (trust me).
I would suggest a different approach, which would be to make such affix be an innate property of specific itemtypes.

For example: new itemtype (druid swords) => innate stat to unlock WW tree - so all instances of this sword, regardless of quality, have this prop.
But in this case WW tree was always there/visible, it was just 'locked' till you get a specific weapon type. The concept this way can help to

a) easen up balance of a specific skill tree and it's siblings and undesirable side-weapon types
b) stats that don't look like ordinary stats are always pretty cool
c) it doesn't really "add" or "remove" that much - but the concept is original and adds to the variety of the game

Removing the item would remove all points you allocated into these skills.

So if I accidentally press W, I get fucked?
Or if I die, when does the game decide that I am no longer using the items?
