Gold standard for a remake
In Resident Evil 2, the classic action, tense exploration, and puzzle solving gameplay that defined the Resident Evil series returns. Players join rookie police officer Leon Kennedy and college student Claire Redfield, who are thrust together by a disastrous outbreak in Raccoon City that transformed its population into deadly zombies.
Continuing trend of playing all my resident evil i had from bundle had lead me to this remake. I already know how high people praised so of course I come with high expectation. I never played the original version on PS2, so i wouldnt know what is the difference between this version and the original one sadly.
It is kinda well known that resident series try to change their gameplay perspective after third entry, which become super popular with the release of resident evil 4. Using the RE engine that capcom used to make RE7, they made full use its graphic fidelity to one gorgeous looking game. The location look very details and the suspense / horror part of the game is pretty top notch. On top of that, they introduced a chaser that will make your life miserable trying to navigate the maze-like level that full puzzle solving.
However i noticed couple of glaring issues. First it feel like the character interaction / dialogue is awkward as well. Also despite being 2 protagonist game, both characters rarely interact with each other. Instead they have their own side characters that have mixed quality. Enemy is also very annoying in this game, especially the default zombie being so tanky even on stardard difficulty. But the most horrible is definite the boss fight. At first it was scuffed with lacked of resource, but the 2nd one is straight unfair fight in smallest area.
Resident evil 2 remake is definitely one of the good one despite not being my favourite (that would be RE4). The experience playing it was nice and I could play blind much without resorting to walkthrough (still read it if i got stuck). It have all formula that what made old school RE 2 so terrifying while not alienating modern audience.
tl;dr PLEASE PLAY IT. Not because it just good game, but how optimized the graphic and pacing for a video games.
