Isn't it very easy to fix then? Either make charges happen on swing like every single other melee buff on this game since I doubt they are not considered in game as "buffs" OR if it's spaghetti coded just make the initial attack ignore defense, avoid, and block since attacks like this already exist. It's not like the swing that creates those charges is overpowered, it is literally just normal melee. Same could be done with normal melee to make releasing it not very painful.
If what you say is true then this ability is absolutely ridiculously bad because it technically has three chances to miss before it can activate. It can miss on swing that generates charge, normal swing that releases it, and then it can miss on the bat nova itself. Compare that with every single other ability that will either miss once or hit once. That's incredibly bad.
