Isn't it very easy to fix then? Either make charges happen on swing like every single other melee buff on this game since I doubt they are not considered in game as "buffs" OR if it's spaghetti coded just make the initial attack ignore defense, avoid, and block since attacks like this already exist. It's not like the swing that creates those charges is overpowered, it is literally just normal melee. Same could be done with normal melee to make releasing it not very painful.

If what you say is true then this ability is absolutely ridiculously bad because it technically has three chances to miss before it can activate. It can miss on swing that generates charge, normal swing that releases it, and then it can miss on the bat nova itself. Compare that with every single other ability that will either miss once or hit once. That's incredibly bad.

i tried a summon assassin only based on bats 2 patches ago. It was okay (but slow) in normal and nightmare and I stopped playing the build when I realized that it didn't make a difference in killspeed whether I had the bats summoned or not once I got the Veil King summon from a rare assassin shield.
I also noticed the bats wasting a lot of time batting around the screen pointlessly instead of attacking nearby enemies. Other summons aren't that bad at finding enemies to hit.

That assassin couldn't deal with any uber areas

edit: and ofcourse, as op said, getting the charges right was a real pain, especially since that char didn't have much % ar

Hey there, I wanted to try a Clawsin this patch and I tried Batstrike, I faced the same issues you are talking about. Before, my favourite build was Twin Fang Clawsin but they removed that skill 2 or 3 patches ago.

I think I succeeded in making Batstrike at least semi-viable with a mouse macro alternating between left and right click on hold. It kinda acts like a randomizer for accumulating and unleashing charges since sometimes the charges won't add or empty on swing, so it acts similarly to any other proc on-hit: Most of the time you get a bat nova, sometime re-summoning your bats (which can be practical as constant meatshields) and rarely your big spike burst. Works okay for cleaning up to now, I have yet to try them on uber bosses.
