Essences drop more often than runestones as per the drop rates. Runestones drop the same on any floor. Just RNG.

So basically farm runestones on the floor I have least issues with and fastest. Gotcha. Which would be earth floor.

Well. Just farm all the floors on the way down unless you're looking for a specific essence.

Am I allowed to use jewels when making runewords with elemental runes or XIS runes? Like

Xis runewords , yes (except 6x Xis body armor). Jewels , then rune , then Xis. Elemental runes runewords like Creep, no. Those have to be the exact recipe.

If you make
Shark (Xis)
in a Sacred Blade, for example. You can use 1 jewel --> Tal --> Xis. If you for some reason don't want the jewel, just make sure its a two-socket blade and put Tal --> Xis.

For Elemental RW's, it must be exactly what it says. If you want to make

, you need to put four poison runes in four sockets. If you're using a Spiked or Bone shield that can get 6 sockets, make sure you only give it 4 sockets or else the RW won't work. You cannot put JewelJewelPoPoPoPo. Must be PoPoPoPo

The runes for Khalims Protector are not wasted, you can unsocket them. For Xis items it's best to not be stupid, follow the recipe and tripple check. 1-4 jewels rune xis, sometimes people forget the rune. Also Khalims Protector is weird it's exactly 4 runes I think that's the only recipe where it's like this all others are 0-5 jewels + rune. And this recipe also blocks

Gothic shield has 15 movementspeed penalty (That's really much and if you have an ancient armor too it's too much! At least for me) but the highest base def. Class specific shield have one extra % to block so amazons, paladins, barbs and sins should use those.

light plate? Both are highest def without any penalty. Traprat is slow as is I prob should go this route.

Those 2 runewords can be unsocketed. Test it out, I would go for ancient armor but both in the same build will end up horribly slow.
