This is the definition I've been using (from an old d2 forum):

http://www.extreme-gamerz.org/diablo2/viewdiablo2/woundsstrikesblows

Basically DS is a chance to do double damage. CB is a chance to take a certain % off the target's current life (since it's a % that means you can never kill it with CB alone, there will be diminishing returns, but it's great for taking down very high-life monsters quickly to a place where you can get the rest with your usual damage).

That's my understanding, if it's changed since d2 days then I'm sure someone will correct me. HTH

Much appreciated :)
I've looked for those definitions with the "search" forum button but i got almost 400 results...

If youre familiar with clod skills , CB is the physical damage version of sorc's Static Field skill. Like he said , its stronger against monsters with huge life pools such as bosses and underwhelming vs monsters with low life pools.

Note that if youre using converted damage skills, both DS and CB apply AFTER the damage is calculated ; in short, your damage still doubles.

I see. In that case, if I'm leveling a character should I be saving my socketables until end game? Or not worry about it and just socket as I go?

For uniques - Oil of disjunction removes the sockets from the item, just cube it with them. If the item is a RW (grey) then you also need 3 Pgems for that, which isn't the case most of the time anyways. You can always unsocket them, uptier, and resocket.

Nope, I am trying it extensively right now it sucks ass. The first charge for a melee sin is great tho but only once you have all charms and nice gear.

I don't think you can craft jewels with Life on Striking. If you mean Life on Attack, then no. LoA only works on direct melee hits.

There are no life on striking jewels. If you mean the jewelcraft life on attack - nope only for melee attacks. Ber crafted for life leech do work.
