Maybe one can try to cast ambush -> fortress -> wait 3 seconds -> ambush -> fortress.

But it doesn't cover area very well, you can have entire screen filled with monsters, and ambush only hits few lines of them, really "poor" aoe. When they get hit they melt to poison instantly, like one second. But clearing this duncraig lobby took way too long, many recasts and running in circles.
It would be competitve to try clear it with whirlwind alone
I agree that on paper this skill looked really good for this.

You mean like, whirpool with cb, to kill stuff fast?
You can use war axe, and 1 whirpool produces tons of tornadoes (which are also 3/4?). Pretty sure that is better.

whirpool is 1/4 weapon damage though, not greatest skill to deliver poison damage

It won't release Thunderslams WHILE you are whirling though.
It's a stupid mechanic that it doesn't but it's true.
In cLoD I once had a BotD barb (50% ctc Poison Nova on kill) and it hardly ever activated unless I used an attack other than WW.

It is as void says. During whirlwind on clod, on kill proccs never trigger , only when you apply a direct melee killing hit such as Frenzy barb or even auto attack. That is one of the main reasons heavy procc weapons in clod (such as BotD or Last Wish) are mostly dualweilded with Frenzy barb and whirlwind usually makes use of less proccy dependant weapons such as Grief which has only 1 procc (Venom on striking).

Edit : Forgot to mention that even WW barbs in clod usually have 1 pointer Concentration on the LMB (uninterruptable single target melee attack) , just to procc Venom on Grief, after it proccs its whirlwind forever , til Venom wears out then rinse repeat.
