I've tested A3 as well but personally I feel like it has less advantages compared to the others. A2 is prefered for Labyrinth because it's super easy to get 60% dr and max resists. A5 in labs is possible but you need a lot of gear.

I've never really used mercs, in cLoD and early versions of Median they tended to just die immediately, survive and be insignificant or just bug out. Only time I used them was level challenge (Tran Athalua) back in LazBro Median days, as some classes/builds would get shredded, while an act 3 bloodmage merc could solo it naked.

So how to equip an act 2 merc?

hey guys,
im a former d2 lod player (with former i mean around 10+ years back).
to make this post short here's the thing:

* im playing a barb and sometimes when i shift my weapon and shield (w) - i cannot wear the original (the one ive been wearing before) shield or armor anymore.
why? it says the stats arent sufficient (str+dex). there's like around 40str missing and 3 dex.
i tried to log out and back in, and also ive put all the other gear off and back on - no change.
definitely it worked before - like otherwise i couldnt have equipped them.

i didnt change anything else, i just shift the weapon+shield during battle sometimes.

so now i'm without armor and shield. makes it hell+

its a ladder char, 110lvl
i use bear stance and spiral..

any idea/exp with that?

Your weapon/shield on one side might have + strength or dex that allows you to wear your gear but your other pieces dont. ie weapon 1 and shield 1 add 100 str and 80 dex thus meeting requirements - weapon 2 and shield 2 dont add anything - try adding more str/dex or just verify if that is true.

my question is - i tried fighting Rathma and Mendeln in the Void and only targeting Rathma with purify but Mendeln died almost instantly for some reason. did i accidentally hit him or what went wrong? I thought Mendeln was immune to all dmg except purify.

Depends on your character, what you want to use it for, your current items.

A2 merc is generally the most versatile in terms of buffs. It naturally has access to bloodlust so it is preferable early on and doesn't require much %physical damage reduction because of its innate abilities so it makes a great Overall tank for all stages of the game including Labs. Access to Night's Embrace and many other supportive weapons.

A5 merc is more physical damage based along with having the perk of a small Gift of the Wild buff every so-often. It's way harder to obtain %physical damage reduction on A5 merc but he deals way more damage than A2. Access to Quarak's gives one of the best Bloodlusts in the game or you can give it a strong 2h DPS wep though the Bloodlust is pretty damn good.

A3 is the least versatile merc but provides elemental based-dps. More specifically, Abjurer variant of the merc because it deals more elemental and spell damage compared to the others. Not much use for A3 mercs in my experience, The A2 and A5 just have way more benefits going for it.

And we completely forget the A1 merc, who while isn't the best in the buffs department, has Dark Power for the non-nec summoners. Also nice if you have a lot of dex gear lying around as her bonuses scale off dex and not str.
