It needs to be full of essences/runestones.

Does deadly strike works on physical spell like dream eater?

What would you consider a good ethereal item to find? And what do you do with them? Or is there a good guide on ethereal items that I'm not finding?

Generally runeword bases or the odd rares that rolled good stats. If you do any kind of crafting or rerolling of the stats, then it's no longer ethereal, hence runeword bases and rares. Obviously ethereal uniques can be worth it too but I assume you loot the SU's you find.

So making it into a runeword is the only manipulation you can make to it that won't remove the ethereal? What about the lucky cube recipe to try to add enhanced defense (armor) or enhanced damage (weapon), will that leave the ethereal in place? and how much of a concern is it that it can't be repaired if it's a now a runeword?

Pretty much. Oil of renewal will also remove ethereal FYI. But luckies won't. You got one shot lol.

If you are making a runeword you plan to keep for a while, just make sure one of the jewels you put in has indestructo mod. It's an uncommon affix but not that hard to roll.

of course not, it's a physical damage spell . deadly strike applies to weapon (physical damage) damage attacks . they are different things
