So,
Last night I did the soul of pride and I didnt realize until i attempted the uber that this boss uses a curse that reduces your stats to 1. I think in theory this is a really awesome design mechanic. The uber forces you to play in a different way and focus on doing burst damage before you are cursed to be able to kill him effectively. BUT
However, we all know that in diablo 2 when you die you need to recover your body and picking up your corpse with reduced stats can result in the "corpse split" bug where the game creates two seperate corpses for you. This can lead to a really frustrating situation that can actually cause you to lose your gear PERMANENTLY. In an ARPG game focused on gear acquisition I just feel as if this is a bit of a design oversight. I know with the introduction of Sigma we will not have to worry about corpse recovery any longer, however Im not sure exactly when Sigma is actually going to be here so perhaps if we have another patch before then there might be a short term solution to this problem. I wonder if there is a better way to handle this situation than reducing your stats to 1 and achieve a similar challenge (IE monsters in sewers that turn you into a pig, or some similar kind of morph).
(for the record i didnt lose my gear to pride last night since i was playing in a party so it made corpse recovery simpler. however i have lost some really nice stuff to this bug in the past from polar worms in yshari and i have to say this has got to be one of the shittiest feeling in this game ever for me.)
just want to see if anyone else feels the same way about this element of the game. like i said i like the idea of mechanics that make your gear useless but with the reality of the d2 engine perhaps there is a better way to simulate a similar challenge without the danger of losing gear.
