My best advice to you would be:
If you know the basics/how to get at least to mid ubers, go play either what you like or what its op (to stay ahead of the ladder).
If you dont know the basics, play something that you like (but prioritize on something easy).

In my opinion a brand new player will benefit most from a character with good summons, notably sorc (blade spirits+ice eles+familiars), druid (acid fiends), necro (totems+whole summon tree) or barb (what you can do with a barb is go summoner until you reach 120, then respec to throw barb like Mahitovec did on his stream. throw barb can farm tran athulua [great area for farming uniques] very efficiently with little to no gear).

Having strong tanks mean you don't have to kite as much and will die far les often. Median is a difficult game for new comers with lots of information to digest. The minions will make your leveling to 120 way smoother and make the first couple of Uber quests easy.

I'd stay away from sin, zon and paly for now until you have some experience. They have summons too but aren't as strong as the others, meaning you have to grasp the basic mechanics of each uber to do them efficiently. These 3 are however beasts at lategame content (the very hard ubers), unlike sorc/druid/necro.

My very very first character back in 1.f9 was unholy melee and it was strong. :)

I would recommend that since unholy melee is sturdy as hell and has nice dmg, ubers should be done mostly as caster he got even extra beam for it last patch. Maybe not EXACTLY noobie-friendly but you learn Median-basics pretty fast.

Totem necro, druid caster and any barb are cakewalks to about half-game if you read some guides for uber mechanics and trial and error. I recommend LH:s totem-guide, Stealthmasters, or suchbalances guides. Very detailed uberquest guides, not just "go in spam attack and hope you don't die"
