Update, for anyone who cares.

I thought I updated this guide last patch. I guess I just wrote the updates, but never posted them.

Anyway…

BUILD

I’ve been liking Fire/Lightning better, so I switched the guide to that. Poison/Lightning is fine, but Fire/Lightning just seems more versatile. Even though the spec isn't as good starting out, I feel more confident with this build overall.

That said, don’t expect miracles. Melee Sorc is still a pretty mediocre toon, and I'd probably only recommend it if it’s something you really want to play (please read the intro and pros+cons so you know what you’re getting into).

GEAR

Early+Mid Game gear stays the same (shocker), but MOs and crafted jewels are slightly different to better compliment a Fire spec.

End Game gear kits reworked. Ditched the Phys kit b/c it was unimpressive and a pain to assemble. Opted instead for a Phys/Ele hybrid “base kit” and an Ele “upgrade kit.” The hybrid kit should be pretty easy to assemble (assuming you can actually find Starhawk) and you can use it for practically everything. The upgrade kit is a WIP b/c there are a couple pieces I haven't found yet to test.

As usual, kits will contain zero shrinecrafts, UMOs, Relics, Effigies, unique jewels or anything of the sort. Players are, ofc, free to use them, but expecting players to acquire these types of items is ridiculous.

DUNGEONS+RIFTS

They all have writeups now, except Samael and Diemoss (b/c I still don’t care about Sam and Labs). I think Uldy and Sescheron’s Destroyer are the only ones incomplete atm (I kept getting 1-shot by Meph or overwhelmed by Baal in Uldy stage 10, and the lockouts forcing me to restart the whole fucking thing from the beginning were discouraging af, so I started working on the Scosglen charm instead).

PLAYSTYLE

Fusillade is relegated to a supplemental damage skill and you basically just melee/facetank everything now.

MISC

Some other minor changes were made (e.g. tried to streamline the Early Game leveling process by eliminating unnecessary AC farming and XP grinding, nuked the “Crafting” section b/c it was pointless and ate up valuable character space, etc.).


Enjoy, or save yourself the trouble and just play any other melee character instead. I hear practically any melee Paladin is nice.

You can complete all content except Samael and Diemoss with this updated build, but Melee Sorc in general is just kinda mediocre b/c DPS isn't that great, especially in End Game. Also, it's a terrible farmer.

Edit:
The big problem with using Relics as a Melee Sorc is weapon restrictions. Many Relics require certain weapon types, but you're stuck using a Warp Blade if you want to also use your native skills. That said, you still have some options. I'll use this post as a sort of progress report on Relics I've tested that actually work with a Melee Sorc.

GOOD RELICS:
Relic (Divine Judgment)

(2 to 4)% to Strength
= it won't make you a Paladin, but it's better than anything Melee Sorc has, especially against single targets.

SUPPLEMENTAL DAMAGE RELICS:
Relic (Shower of Rocks)

Shower of Rocks: -4% Enemy Physical Resist
+(2 to 7) to Shower of Rocks
Physical Resist (1 to 2)%
= decent. The cooldown prevents it from being a straight replacement for anything, but it's a pretty good supplement against tanky single targets.

+(11 to 21) to Hive
Maximum Poison Resist +(1 to 2)%
+10 to Frozen Heart while Carrying Periodic Relics
(Hive - Nova Charge - Path of Flames)
= okay for supplemental damage while in melee range.

= Requires a Scepter, but since Moonstrike works with Scepters, this Relic might be workable.
