Yeah mirage looks great. Cold Sorc for now but once items get cheaper towards the end of the season I wanted to test out melee sorc in labs with something like this———

Sure it's a good weapon and BiS given how many things it does. However its damage component is reliant on its orange text rather than the base weapon itself. It is specific to an 8 point skill in the skill tree and doesn't interact with the core of the build like a normal weapon does. If we look at other orange texts, they are either a complete item onto themselves that change how you build your character, or they enhance existing skills. Look at

instead is inverted. It has its main appeal in its orange text, with the rest of the item being decent while also doing the extra job of patching up holes left by Fatal Focus. It's a crude solution to a problem that didn't have to exist. And as an item it looks more designed with Fatal Focus in mind rather than the overall tree of Melee.

Speaking of, I don't know if there is another skill in a skill tree that cancels out its own sister skills. And I'm not too sure what we are doing having a supposed BiS item(given its price) be designed to interact with an 8 point skill rather than the core of the build. It's like we have tied ourselves into a knot with these new skills when we should have just fixed the old skills.

As someone thinking about this build for the first time, I'm getting the impression that things have changed a lot since the guide was written...

It seems this guide is for one build (physical?) whereas there's now physical and elemental builds. The build tier list that gets posted in the forums also seems to suggest that the elemental one is better (possibly that changes if/when you get Mirage rw)?

Anyone have some input on how to play elemental, especially early on? Also stuff like... is it better to level as fire or cold? Is the set worthwhile for an elemental build?

Elemental is harder to play early on compared to physical since you’ll need pierce and specific uniques to make it work good. Physical you can just stack on high damage items with deadly strike or crushing blow rolls on them. As for elemental you’re looking at lachdanins visage or however you spell it, starhawk, 2x decent rolled bad mood rings, a decent rolled tesseract amulet. Those are just some of the items, idk about the other gear really but you’ll want pierce on everything.

You don't play ele melee sorc early. Physical is just outright better than a crystal sword, the only reason to swap is how good
