Stats: As much str as needed to wear gear rest in dex. EARLY on this is gonna consist of you basically putting 1/3 your points in str and 2/3 in dex.
When you start gamble/buy a dagger off gheed/charsi. Make sure you put a point into meditation asap it helps early mana regen drastically. If you find an eld/el runes early on make shark/enlightenment for a decent power boost while leveling. Once you reach meph farm him until you can at least make your TU blade + helm + shield. If you desire you can make the full gearset but usually I farm the remaining arcane crystals in act 5 nith.

How koth's swap works on a trap. Fire off a birdstorm or 2 and then press your weapon swap once koth is equipped birds will continue to kill and give you the bloodlust buff. Early on this is pretty massive because you have little to no enhanced weapon damage percent.

Gems + MO's(Mystic Orbs) : Early on just use any resistance gems you find to get res capped. Amethyst in other slots and skulls in your weapon for more dmg. Mo's are going be to expensive at this point.
Once some gear is made progress to act 5 and kill baal. Make sure you complete the barbarian quest and pick him up. Time to head to halls of pain and farm the rest of the AC's for our Tu's and our Mercs TU's if you desire.
Act 5 Merc Setup:
Amulet - Whatever you find
Socket gear with ko runes or diamonds, weapon with jah or skulls.
Why barb merc: For me this is my preferred merc even though we already have mark of the wild buff. He simply does the most damage and is the easiest for me to keep alive. The other option I would consider is act 2 exemplar for insane colosseum if you want more single target.

Creepy craft the helm for high str% + ED and the sword with intimidating/weird/creepy for high flat dmg. Mo his gear to 86% FHR after that mf, str, total char defense, 1-2 flat dmg are all good choices. Mo the sword to 200% ED and then deadly strike or MF. If you have extra creepy shrines crafting nice belt/boot can be potential end game pieces.

MO's and Jewels : First and foremost if you plan to farm with this setup put 15 MF on every piece of gear. After that make sure you have 10 minion resist on your jewelry + 1 piece of gear so you get a total of +40. 40 with perfect charms/trophies and the passives maxed out will net you 175 total for the primal bond passive. After that you are going to aim to finish off your FHR/Blockrate breakpoints which are respectively 174/109. If you still have room left over after that then you should aim for +max damage on whatever armor slots you have left. For weapon MO deadly strike.

Idol's on gauntlets + crown with perfect charms will allow you to equip arrogance with a shamanka swap full of Ka runes. You want the 174 FHR and 109 block speed breakpoints this should be achieved easily with perfect charms and the MO space available on wheel. Aim for 90 fire/cold/light res with perfect gems and socket the rest of your gear with fel runes / fal runes. You also need to MO minion resistance on a couple of pieces to achieve the 175 minion res cap for the primal bond passive. I opted to use my jewelry + wheel of fortune to get the last bit of minion res.
