

What are those end game gears, why and how I made those gears?


Since soulforge is introduced there is so much new things to learn about crafting, and there's no good guide for beginner to check out about crafting. There is so much option in this game as MO, UMO, shrine, effigy, soulforge, downlevel, etc.
So here is guide about crafting your gear for your build and refine it towards your need.

This guide is separated for beginner, veteran, master section. as you don't need effigy info till lvl130, and it will be a serious noise for learning for first time.
List: full options you have for crafting. no details here.

As you play game you will encounter something called "catalyst of disenchantment" (act1 andariel), You should pick it up and keep it for the rest of the game. You can actually buy it (also "catalyst of learning" and "catalyst of jewelcraft", those will drop later so don't buy it at normal) later at act5.

You will find a lot of runes as you play game. And there is system called runewords. Which will make some handy gears for early game and you can use some at end game too. There is some difference compared to original D2 system.

In order for you to make runewords you will need base item. ONLY WHITE ITEMS CAN BE USED AS BASE. If you try to use magic (blue), rare (yellow) etc you won't get runewords and you will use runes as normal. When you fail to make runewords (wrong order, wrong base) you can use "oil of disjunction" (you can buy at shop) to remove runes from items (it won't destroy runes and jewels, just unsocketed).
If you don't have base with sockets you can use socket punch recipe. When you cube any items (that can have socket, i.e. don't try open socket on rings) with jewels you can open socket to those items. Number of jewels is the number of socket it will open up to maximum number of socket. It will retain superior and ethereal status. it won't reroll items, it just open sockets.
You will need to prepare a base with same or more socket than required numbers of runes. if you wanna make

For endgame information (around start of hell), upgrade can go all the way up, 2 zod will make ol rune, and further enchanted runes. But you can not downgrade enchanted runes.

Tiered unique is items that has fixed stats and meant for early game gears (up to 100-120, even higher in some cases). The main benefit of those items is you can obtain those gears without luck.

arcane crystal
Arcane crystal is item you will need to make tiered unique. also it has later usage and depends on build you will need more than 100 in end game but it's for another time.
To obtain arcane crystal you need item catalyst of disenchantment. by cube unique item (up to 10 at once) with catalyst of disenchhantment you will get "arcane shards" and/or "arcane crystal". arcane shards has charges and you can cube more than 2 of them to make bigger shards (up to 4) or arcane crystal (every 5 unique equals to 1 arcane crystal).
This may confuse you as it is looping inbetween tiered unique and arcane shard, but you can get unique items by killing enemies. Also actbosses will drop guaranteed tiered unique (normal) or arcane shards (nightmare and hell). Common use is by farming mephisto or nihlathak you can get 2 tiered unique per kill, and every 5 kill you can make new tiered unique.

In order for you to make tiered unique, you need base item, 2 arcane crystals and oil of enhancement (blue oil, you can buy at shop). Base item doesn't matter except tier (tier 1-4) and item type.
For example, ancient armor will make
easy way for you to get base item is gamble base. Depends on you character level you won't be able to buy high tier items (for example tier 4 short sword is item level 77, which means at earliest you can gamble it at 72) but you can buy any tier1-4 base this way.
You can upgrade tiered unique by cubing 1 arcane crystal and 1 tiered unique item. it will roll new unique item with 1 higher tier (up to 4). it will likely require higher status requirement and higher required level. There is no way to downlevel tiered unique.
You can use this recipe to make unique jewel, ring, amulet and quivers. That case it will make 1 of available items up to item level 99.
catalyst of learning
It doesn't really belong here but before you make arcane shards from sacred unique items, you should focus on using those and unique amulets, rings, jewels for "signet of learning". it will give you more status point.
By cubing uniques I listed above (not quivers or tiered unique) or set items with catalyst of learning, you can get signet of learning (up to 25 at once).

mystic orb and honorific

Mystic orb (MO for short) is upgrade available for all gears. you can apply same mo up to 5 times, to any items. and each will adds 4 required levels. You can buy those at shop and you can apply those by first right clicking MO, then right click item you wanna use. You can not MO when required level of item becomes higher than your character level.
There is gear restriction as armor mo won't apply to weapon, etc.
These are expensive for early game so use it on gears that lasts more than 10 levels (aka only tier4 TU, tier3 sometimes).
Enhanced damage/defence is capped at 200%. You can not increase it further through mo.
Honorific item is a type of item you can make by cubing mark of infusion and base item (magic or rare).
You can access honorific item at normal act5, as mark of infusion is drop of shenk (he is right before first way point at act5, pretty hard to miss. You can farm multiple of them at any difficulty).
These items doesn't have any roll on it, it's as good as white item by default (you can't make RW on it). But any mo apply to honorific is twice more effective (except required level). Base item tier will be inherited (i.e. tier 2 boots will be tier 2 boots honorific, with 2 sockets). there is actually some unique that has twice effect of MO mechanic (there is 4 times even) but these require higher level and therefore less MO can be applied.
Example of early game usage would be making tier 2 glove honorific, apply strength, elemental resist, spell damage, spell focus. We have very low requirement gear that boosts stat, while having decent caster stats.
For mid-end game context, sacred honorific item can be shrine blessed.
There is gear restriction as armor mo won't apply to weapon, etc.
These are expensive for early game so use it on gears that lasts more than 10 levels (aka only tier4 TU, tier3 sometimes).
Enhanced damage/defence is capped at 200%. You can not increase it further through mo.
Honorific item is a type of item you can make by cubing mark of infusion and base item (magic or rare).
You can access honorific item at normal act5, as mark of infusion is drop of shenk (he is right before first way point at act5, pretty hard to miss. You can farm multiple of them at any difficulty).
These items doesn't have any roll on it, it's as good as white item by default (you can't make RW on it). But any mo apply to honorific is twice more effective (except required level). Base item tier will be inherited (i.e. tier 2 boots will be tier 2 boots honorific, with 2 sockets). there is actually some unique that has twice effect of MO mechanic (there is 4 times even) but these require higher level and therefore less MO can be applied.
Example of early game usage would be making tier 2 glove honorific, apply strength, elemental resist, spell damage, spell focus. We have very low requirement gear that boosts stat, while having decent caster stats.
For mid-end game context, sacred honorific item can be shrine blessed.

Items have required level, if it is too high you can't equip it. but because there is mystic orb and you will try to maximize required levels, you will encounter situations where suddenly something you thought you should be able to equip it didn't work and confused. But if you know core it is actually really simple.

There is containers for a lot of things by cubing those with oil of craft. Runes (common ones only), perfect gems, arcane crystals, shrines, heavenly souls, corrupted crystals. some are up to 50 (runes, gems, heavenly souls) and others are practically infinite. You can use sort items in container button located at your inventory and your stash. That button actually works and move items in stash containers without interacting with stash (on single player it only works on the page you are opening).
You should make these around lvl 110 (or when stash is absolute mess) as oil of craft is expansive for early game. It is your best friend for keeping things organized.
There is a item called catalyst of transference. This is container for psionic brain (fauztinville miniboss drop) and can be made by cubing 5 psionic brains together. those can be used for changing shrine type to another.

You can not use it on angelic rare items, tiered rare items, or sacred magic item. You can not soulforge crafted items. You can bless shrine crafted items.
There is 2 different use cases. When you want to just reroll it as rare items, and when you want to use it as end game gear. With introduction of soulforge rare item is more popular as end game gear than crafted item.
About base, you have to choose it carefully as some base require too much strength/dexterity. Some character specific gears may require strength when you are dex stacker. Some shield may have way higher defence than other shield available. Or you may want 6 socket shield instead of 4 socket shield. Also character specific gear may have some affixes that can only roll on them (like necro shield vs normal shield).
After you decided base you want, you can start crafting.
In order to start shrine crafting you need sacred rare item and shrine. There are 2 ways to prepare sacred rare items. You can use charsi quest (imbue) on sacred base you want or you can use oil of augmentation on magic item. You can not gamble sacred items, or uptier tier4 item to sacred items.
By cubing shrine (default 10 charges) with sacred rare base, you will reroll 4 affixes (unless you use downlevel recipe) and shrine specific bonus. You should check what it can roll, and make sure you are searching for thing that actually exists. each shrine has 10 charges and each cube will use 1 of the charges. You can put shrine in container only when it has 10 charges.
When you first craft something you likely will not care about what shrine to use. Usual early game usage of shrine crafting is making bear stance paladin shield. When you do make it you don't care about what bonus it has as long as there is bear stance, so it's fine to use whatever you have at the moment.
End game example is end game class gears (Naginata, Sorceress crystal sword etc). You can use abandoned crafting and get hope for conbination of {120+ enhanced damage, 350 maximum damage, minimum damage, attack speed, on melee attack proc, etc}.

Soulforge is available for sacred/angelic rare items. This doesn't include crafted items. It is recommended to complete soulforge before doing any other modification, as it may disable some souforge options. I personally do not know any actual cases but it is from devs, I treat it with respect.
In order for you to start soulforge you need to reach level 120, and get
by cubing
heavenly soul can be stored in a container crate o' soul, which can be made by cubing heavenly soul and oil of craft (red oil). by cubing heavenly soul with oil of enhhancement, you can get "the soulforge". also you can get specific unique items by cubing 20 heavenly souls.
Soulforge system is added at 2.9 as a way to make rare item more useful. It can make previously impossible items like 80% physical magic spell damage 2handed sword, which could be best in slot for barb caster. 2.9 also added angelic items which is buffed up rare item.
Rare items can have 6 affixes, 3 prefixes and 3 suffixes. Soulforge is a way to add missing affixes. If you have rare item with 6 affixes it can't be enhanced via soulforge. If you have missing affixes you can add things on it.
You can view all available recipe by cubing the soulforge, However there is more restriction. You can't adds same category of existing affixes. Common example is pierce. If your rare belt has fire pierce, you can't adds any other pierce through soulforge.
For example, if you have 1 prefix rare claymore (let's say it was enhanced damage). normally it goes to trash but you wanted temporaly warcry sword (there is better one, I won't go into detail). By adding physical/magic spell damage and spell focus it can be really nice sword for now. By cubing as it told you you can add those 2 affixes.
At late game you can search for 6socket barb sword with 12 to warcry and 1 prefix (maybe using rare downlevel recipe). You can add same thing (it's 1handed so you will get lower spell damage and spell focus roll). That is best in slot gear for war cry barb.
You may find 400 max damage crossbow with 2 open prefix and adds enhanced damage and minimum damage on it. You may find boots with 2 suffix and missing pierce. All of those are just small examples from what it can do.

If you see cube jewel with rune, it is outdated info.
In order to start jewel crafting you need "catalyst of jewelcrafting", arcane crystal, and gold. When you start crafting early jewels you don't need many ACs, but you will eventually melt more than 100 ACs in some cases. Because of that when you seriously grind for good jewel it is recommended you can farm scosglen, that place drops arcane crystal a lot (etherbone in specific drops it, you shouldn't skip that). before that point you should not try for best jewels, just better than previous jewel and it is more than enough.
When you want jewels it is best to go for viz zin, but you can just farm and you will have enough in 20 minutes no matter where you farm. it is important you use item level 99 jewels (any jewel in hell is always level 99) or maybe some specific case using specific jewel may make sense.
To craft jewels you need to cube catalyst of jewelcrafting and 1-10 AC. Each AC will charge 5 usage in catalyst. Once catalyst is charged you can cube itself to pick bonus you want. jewels will roll that and 4 affixes (low level jewel won't roll 4 of them) just like rare jewel does. It will cost gold everytime you reroll jewel.
When you cube jewel with catalyst of jewelcrafting (0 charge left) you will get magic jewel with 0 required level. It is still internally item level 99 so you don't have to discard that jewel. If you don't have enough gold the recipe simply won't work.
Common use is making caster jewels. We want something like {2% general spell damage, 2% fire spell damage, 11-15 spell focus, 40-50 life}. Physical weapon build has {adds 3-8 damage} as best jewel (most people won't try for it).
After above is complete you should use oil of luck to add additional bonus. it's not huge bonus but it's free bonus, and you can't use lottery for craft jewel.

Because of that when you seriously grind for good jewel it is recommended you can farm scosglen, that place drops arcane crystal a lot (etherbone in specific drops it, you shouldn't skip that). before that point you should not try for best jewels, just better than previous jewel and it is more than enough.
When you want jewels it is best to go for viz zin, but you can just farm and you will have enough in 20 minutes no matter where you farm. it is important you use item level 99 jewels (any jewel in hell is always level 99) or maybe some specific case using specific jewel may make sense.
To craft jewels you need to cube catalyst of jewelcrafting and 1-10 AC. Each AC will charge 5 usage in catalyst. Once catalyst is charged you can cube itself to pick bonus you want. jewels will roll that and 4 affixes (low level jewel won't roll 4 of them) just like rare jewel does. It will cost gold everytime you reroll jewel.
When you cube jewel with catalyst of jewelcrafting (0 charge left) you will get magic jewel with 0 required level. It is still internally item level 99 so you don't have to discard that jewel. If you don't have enough gold the recipe simply won't work.
Common use is making caster jewels. We want something like {2% general spell damage, 2% fire spell damage, 11-15 spell focus, 40-50 life}. Physical weapon build has {adds 3-8 damage} as best jewel (most people won't try for it).
After above is complete you should use oil of luck to add additional bonus. it's not huge bonus but it's free bonus, and you can't use lottery for craft jewel.

You can use rare downlevel recipe to keep rerolling it as rare, or use shrine craft. once shrine crafted you can't make it back to rare item. but as long as it is rare you can use soulforge to make crazy items. like flying kinzhal can have high physical damage through soulforge while having innate elemental weapon property.

Rare downlevel is a cube recipe using base rare item, 1 rare ring, and 1 rare amulet. There's 2 purpose of using it. 1 is to reroll same item over and over as rare item. You can also make it as a base of multibless. Multiblessinig will be done using
It will roll lower than shrine crafted affixes (and just drop of hell) but up to at least affix level 82, you can use rare downlevel recipe to reroll rare item. One use of this is war cry barbarian sword. Normally you have to add {12 to war cry} {prefixes: 1} in filter and hope for good luck, but with rare downlevel recipe you can roll item level 93 barbarian sword over and over till you get the roll you want. It is better than shrine crafting as It will remain as rare item, and you can modify it with soul forge.
Good place to farm rare ring/amulet would be heroic library of fate, but you will get it anywhere as you farm.

Multiblessing itself is super simple. You bless item with oil of intensity, then cube with
You can use rare item or crafted item as base. In case of rare item, pick what affixes you want first (make sure you check required levels) and prepare base for that purpose. Usually lowest strength/dexterity requirement gear is used as you won't expect high enhanced damage/defence roll. You can keep rolling same item with rare downlevel recipe till you get the armor you want for it.
Also you can use shrine crafting to base. It will lower affix rolls (on sacred gear not too much) and it works as benifit this time, as you actually care about required level being low. With shrine crafting required level is minimum 13 level higher than rare counter part, and more affixes the more level requirement it will get.
Before you start multiblessing, make sure what you get from shrine blessing is better than other options (MO, UMO, etc). Also you can not bless ethereal items, if you'll use
For example Intimidating shrine blessing is really bad way to get deadly strike, and even including enhancedd damage roll it is around same as using normal MO from shop.
Rare downlevel is a cube recipe using base rare item, 1 rare ring, and 1 rare amulet. There's 2 purpose of using it. 1 is to reroll same item over and over as rare item. You can also make it as a base of multibless. Multiblessinig will be done using
Breath of Thaumaturgy
and shrinie bless (with intensity oil at this point).

It will roll lower than shrine crafted affixes (and just drop of hell) but up to at least affix level 82, you can use rare downlevel recipe to reroll rare item. One use of this is war cry barbarian sword. Normally you have to add {12 to war cry} {prefixes: 1} in filter and hope for good luck, but with rare downlevel recipe you can roll item level 93 barbarian sword over and over till you get the roll you want. It is better than shrine crafting as It will remain as rare item, and you can modify it with soul forge.
Good place to farm rare ring/amulet would be heroic library of fate, but you will get it anywhere as you farm.
multiblessing
Multiblessing itself is super simple. You bless item with oil of intensity, then cube with

Breath of Thaumaturgy
is really expensive occult effigy and you will want to have 3 pillar deimoss key for this, as it will make this so much easier. Also you have to farm dimensional labyrinth for few hours at least to obtain enough effigy to make one, and you need up to 5.

You can use rare item or crafted item as base. In case of rare item, pick what affixes you want first (make sure you check required levels) and prepare base for that purpose. Usually lowest strength/dexterity requirement gear is used as you won't expect high enhanced damage/defence roll. You can keep rolling same item with rare downlevel recipe till you get the armor you want for it.
Also you can use shrine crafting to base. It will lower affix rolls (on sacred gear not too much) and it works as benifit this time, as you actually care about required level being low. With shrine crafting required level is minimum 13 level higher than rare counter part, and more affixes the more level requirement it will get.

corruption

You can corrupt your items (RW, unique, set, rare. Honorific won't work) with corrupted crystal which is a drop exclusive to scosglen (135 required). That area is really hard but that's aside the point. You can corrupt pretty much all equipment and get crazy bonus like 1 max resistant, or 3 to light radius. It is random what bonus it will gain, and in fact most of the time it is not worth the risk.
When you corrupt item, you will have 40% chance to add bonus, 30% chance to add 100 required level, and 30% chance it does nothing. Skill searing glow scales with number of corrupted gears, orb of anhilation scales from corrupted gears if you have point of no return staff (extremely rare item). Because of this risk it is recommended that you corrupt items before you use any expensive options (effigy and UMO).
Corrupted crystal is rather sparse resource as doing full scosglen run will result in around 2-4 crystal. Also you either don't care about that item being unusable (you already have gear and it's only upgrade option) and/or you can get that item a lot (arcane sorc set is good example).
