No, the gem changes to chipped after one roll. It doesn't make a difference what quality the gem is. Only the gem itself matters.

So what exactly is the point of that charm then? In what way is clicking that cube-button until you get an acceptable roll fun?
All the other uberquest stuff is fun. Doing them a bunch of times to get good rolls and trophies is challenging. It encourages creating chararacters that actually are good at doing the quests, instead of just throwing your corpse at the boss for 5-20 minutes to get one charm.
But you only have to get this charm once and then you just click away at that cube-button. What was Laz'/Marcos reasoning behind that?
Edit:
For example: If the charm would just drop with random stats (identical to 50 random rolls of the current system) there would at least be the challenge of having to kill the boss for every roll.
